I installed my aftermarket cooler on my video card. Now when I play BF2142, there's tears all over the screen, and it locks up after 15 seconds. Would that be caused by something coming in contact with the GPU or me having accidentally touched the contacts on the video card?

Please help with this.

What sort of cooler?
Is it possible it is contacting correctly, so not actually cooling it?
Did you use a contact paste?

It's contacting correctly, but here's the deal: they forgot one of the screws that helps hold it in there, so I put it all together minus that screw (it was custom crap) and jammed a little plastic spring clippy thing in there to hold it on correctly, do you think that might be the problem? The paste I have is the Arctic Ceramique.

It may be. If that spring clip can move a little, then the cooler may not contact properly.
Did you clean all the other paste off first and remember to ground yourself before work so you don't kill it with static electricity?

Yeah, I remembered all that.

I think that it's just BF2142 that's doing that... the Supreme Commander demo is working fine... could it be the resolution? SC is at 1280x1024, like my desktop, but BF2142 is at 1024x768...

I'll open it up again tomorrow, I'm too tired for that right now...

EDIT: It's SC too, it wasn't messing up in the menu, but when I started up a game it was doing it... crap...

Before you do pull it apart, try BF2142 on lower settings just for a test. 800x600 with low detail should give you a good idea if it's BF2142 or the card.

Okay, I'll try it after dinner, my family's altogether again, so they're all going to be jerks about it.

Try this www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/

You can test your GPU with it and it's free. Hope that's some help. Just go to the download section of the website and install as usual. Let us know how You get on matey.. Peace..

Enjoy the "togetherness" of your family...
When you grow older, you'll miss it. :)

Maybe the few good memories, which are too few and far between, this family is always clashing, minorly, but it still stresses me out too much. I'll try that program, thanks blue.

Here's the deal, BF2142 messes up even in the menu at 800x600. And how do I use RivaTuner? The cooler I have is this (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16835124006).

Put the stock one back on and see if you have the same problems. You may have borked your RAM.

If I hadn't accidentally broken it, that might be possible... I hoped my RAM isn't totalled... that would suck...

Actually, the heatsink doesn't even touch the RAM... so it couldn't have... I'm going to try taking out the stupid thing that I put in there... damn little clip thingy. I'm learning a lot from this, but mainly let other people put **** in your computer for you... I've messed up way too much, no more am I going to bother with it, I want a gaming PC, not a mess.

Am talking with Crimson, it's heat and we're working on it.

I got it working, the heat sink wasn't on right...

Oh yeah, and Crimson, if you had reputation enabled, you'd have about 15 more points if it were to allow me...
