Well i have yet to post a mod on this forum so i figured why not my new reservoirs I'm Building. I actually started building them about a week ago, but i would say I'm only about 40% done them. These reservoirs are an add on to my full Themed case you can find on my forum, www.wotp.net/forums if you find this interesting enough. Here is a verrry rough drawing i did of how i want these Reservoirs to turn out and the basic idea of how they will function. And when i say rough i mean im not an engineer and dont take any mechanical drawing classes lol.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/reservoirs2.jpg

I already purchased all the Plexi glass i need to do this project. A sheet of 1/2", a sheet of 1/4", 2 tubes of 3", 2 tubes of 5/8" and some various sizes of plexi rods.

I started off with building the caps 1st because it was the only thing i couldn't figure out how to do, due to limited tools. So my idea to get the caps to 3" without having an actual 3" whole saw bit was to just cut a cap 3 1/4" and rig it onto my drill press and sand down a quarter. It worked great in the long run, after a few hours of sanding that is....

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00050.jpg

I cut out 4 of these, and got them all almost perfectly Flush with the outer diameter of the Plexi tubes...

After i separated the tops and bottoms for each tank i put them both together on the drill press and sanded them so they were equally flush...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00066-1.jpg

After a while of sanding they turned out looking like this
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00078-1.jpg

They look pretty damn flush in my opinion, but critiques and thoughts are what i post for, so open minds let loose :)

Once finished i cut 1/2" holes in the middle of them because thats the right size fittings and caps I'm going to be using with these...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00084-1.jpg

and heres a shot of all the caps finished...
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00081-1.jpg

After the caps were done i decided to start doing the stands which would mount the reservoirs to the side of the case where i wanted them. (Basically a Defyant based design)

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00091.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00093.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00095.jpg

Once the initial holes were cut for the round parts of the stands i started cutting them out with the scroll saw. Which took a good half hour because i started using a really thin blade in the beginning and did the same cut about 30x lol

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00099.jpg

After the edges were cut they looked reallly ugly because of the scroll saw so i got some acetone out and applied some to get rid of the really nasty shards...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00101.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00103.jpg

After each individual stand was cut out, i placed them under the uncut res-tubes to see how they looked...

And so the stands were done.

So all that work was done over the weekend, and now i started with the 1st Removable cap that i decided to use. I went to a local Hobby Town USA and bought a 3" Dia Spinner for an air plane and decided to mod it into the refill cap for my reservoirs. If you can decipher the ****ty hand writing and terrible drawing up top, you might have an idea on how they will function. If you cant read it, then screw it here it is lol

I tried a few test caps with previous spinners with just the basic idea of putting a bolt in the bottom part of the spinner and glueing it. After bondoing the spinner, the bolt broke loose. So i went a bit over board with this one. But i rather be safe then sorry :P.

I 1st started with cutting the small circle piece that will fit inside of the spinner...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00005.jpg

After cutting it out, i put a bolt through it and through the base of the spinner to hold them together so i could mark the next holes for the bolts that will hold the plexi circle onto the base...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00008.jpg

After marking i cut the holes. I know theyre not aligned right at all, but your not going to see the inside of the spinner after its bondoed, so i didnt really give a ****...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00010.jpg

Once i finished drilling the holes i decided to start threading the 1/2" rod i will be using as the screw mechanism to take the cap on and off. So i lubed the rod and dye with good old vasoline and started threading...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00011.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00014.jpg

After i finished threading the rod i started threading the 3" cap that will be acetoned onto the reservoir tube...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00015.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00016.jpg

Turned out pretty nice, I screwed the rod into the hole once it was finished to test it out.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00017.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00018.jpg

And it fit like a glove so i was very happy :)

Once that was done i got some small bolts and bolted the small piece of plexi onto the inside base of the spinner...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00020.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00021.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00023-1.jpg

As soon as it was done, i got the rod ready by spreading some acetone onto it and then applied more onto the inside hole of the spinner base and put the rod in...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00026.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00028-1.jpg

It was a bit too loose to only use acetone, so i got out my heat gun and melted it a bit so it would expand and bond with the circle piece of plexi..

Then after it hardened and was ready, i put the top of the spinner back on and tested out how it fit on the cap...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00001.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00003.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00004.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/f.jpg

It ended up fitting very nicely and i was happy with the results. If you havn't noticed yet, this is the nose of the missile, i plan on painting it red after bondoing the holes in. I should have more updates comming this weekend. But until then, peace

And so the stands were done.

lol that sounds like a bible verse or something.

"on the first day, he created "the stands". The modders saw that it was good and so it was and shall forever be."

or something like that, you get my point. :)

Can't wait to see these babies all finished up and working! I bet they'll get at least a couple of "ooohs and aaahs"!

I totally recognise those nose cones from when I used to be hard into R/C planes. Ok, I wasn't really hard, I was into crashing R/C planes mostly.

Killer Mod. Can't wait to see it come out. +rep

Ok, another update on the reservoirs. But mostly the stands. I borrowed a router from my uncle and decided to round off the side edges of the Stands to give them a more clean look. Since they were so small and i couldn't hold them down to use the Router regularly, I had to flip the router upside down and use it like a table.

1st. Since the 1/2" pieces were too thin to use separately, i clamped 2 of them together and used the top piece as a guide line for the plexi to go against the ball bearing with.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/1.jpg

Once clamped i started rounding them...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00069-1.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/2.jpg

Once finished rounding all 4, i started sanding them to give them a perfect finish. Between using 3 different grits before buffing them...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00076-1.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00075.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00074.jpg

Once sanded they looked like this...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00072-1.jpg

Then after being buffed with some compound they looked like this...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00077-1.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00080-1.jpg

During the course of me sanding and buffing my friend got bored and made a flower out of plexi glass, the kids never worked with plexi, he just picked some rods up and started fiddling. Turned into this...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00102.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/7.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/9.jpg

I was pretty impressed for someone who has never worked with plexi, but anyway. After getting the stands nice and clean like i wanted, i started working on the Plexi bands i was going to use to hold the reservoir tubes into their stands. The original shape was going to be like a U type brace you hang copper pipes in your basement with. I tried doing it with 1/8" and it just cracked when i tried screwing it down. So i moved up to 1/4" and tried with that. I used my 3" whole saw as a guide for the plexi to melt around...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00090.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00083-1.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/4.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00092.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/5.jpg

After letting it cool with the U-shape i started bending the corners at a 90 degree angle so they could be screw onto the stands... Thats when the problems started.

The 1st bend was fine and looked great...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00096.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00097.jpg

But it was the 2nd bend that F'ed up the whole thing...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00098.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/DSC00100.jpg

Seemed fine and like it was going to work, but once i took the piece off of the vice and tested it against the tube and stand, it was all messed up. It seems like the 2nd bend discombobulated the whole circle and made it non circular. I'm not sure what else to do, So any ideas are very much appreciated. But one thing I'm trying to stay away from is using metal, rubber, or anything non transparent to hold the res's down. So please let me know if you have an idea to make it out of plexi ;) thanks

Thanks, i might have came up with a way that would keep the brace straight and round to fit over the Tube and attatch to the stand. I was thinking of making a pattern the same size as the plexi stand, and using that to squeeze onto the 1/4" brace after heating it up to push it into the right size for the idea. I'll try it with some scrap wood i have lying around. Ill post some pics once i do it. As for now im going to see the number 23 and go bowling... later

Great job. I recognize that router the Porter Cable router. It looks like the 690 model but I can't be sure. You scared me using the router upside down like that. But you made it and you used a clamp to avoid injury. Bumbed out that the clamp messed up. But nobody ever got everything right the first time. Can't wait to see the finished product.

How did I miss this thread?!?

+ rep for the fine work, keep it up.

And off topic (sorta), the whole bible verse reference on the first page of this thread had me thinking that it might have came from the Book of Armaments!

Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Great movie. Perhaps someone should do a mod?

Well, finally some progress on the res's today guys. I took my wooden pattern idea for the Plexi straps into consideration and gave it a shot.

I 1st made some stand patterns the way i did with the plexi

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/P1013132.jpg

After cutting them all out and drilling them together they looked like this...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/P1013133.jpg

After i made the bottom piece, the piece where the whole saw bit will sit while im bending the plexi, i made the top piece. I made the top piece 1/4" bigger on each part because the plexi strap will be bending between these 2 patterns, so i had to give it some leeway. Once i cut out the top pattern, it turned out like this...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/P1013136.jpg

After a bit of thinking, i figured that if i was heating up the plexi and bending it against these wooden patterns, they would probably get some kind black crap on it from the wood. So i decided to put some Teflon tape that you see on your AC units on the wood. (I know its a bit over kill, but it looks cool as hell lol)

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/P1013143.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/P1013137.jpg
Both of the patterns all taped up^

After taping them, i made the 1st bend of the strap like i did b4 using the 3" whole saw bit.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/P1013147.jpg

Once i got it into its U Shape, i started working on the 90 degree bends.
As soon as i got the bends eye balled to the shape i needed, i slide the bottom pattern under the whole saw bit, and put the band in between the patterns and heated it up a bit as i formed them together with the patterns...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/P1013148.jpg

This method turned out great, i put the strap on the Tube ill be using for the Res, and with the plexi stand underneath. I think it looks cool as hell

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/P1013150.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Ear1Simm0ns/Mods/Tank%20Case%20Mod/P1013151.jpg

Well, Im going to be using this liquid for the Res's,http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2112/ex-liq-11/Fluid_XP_Extreme_Non-Conductive_32_oz_Liquid_Cooling_Fluid_-_UV_Alien_Green_FXPEXTAG32.html?tl=g30c103s183
I'm hoping im not going to spend like 150$ in liquid haha. I am goin to be cutting those tubes a bit shorter, those are the lengths of the tubes as i bought them. The blue tape is so they stay nice and scratch free. Ill only be taking a few inches off of them tho, they will be mounted on an upward slant on the side of my case, so ill get some nice length out of them.

I'm hoping to do some more modding tommarow. Today it hailed for a good 12 hours and it finally built up to about 4-5 inches of sleet / snow. The roads are terrible, so i dont really plan on going out this weekend, but then again i dont think modding under the influence is a great idea either lol. Happy St. Patricks day

But hopefully this weekend i will have something updated for you guys, i plan to finish these reservoirs up by the end of may, lets hope i do ;). Since the tubes are so damn big its going to be at least 200$ worth of cooling inside of these things lol

Since the tubes are so damn big its going to be at least 200$ worth of cooling inside of these things lol

I know how that crap goes man. im pulling off 35 hrs in school/week +~40 hrs @ work/week and i have around 16 hrs of AP study sessions i go to, and around 2 hrs of hmwk/night. i did the math and that leaves me with around seven hours i could sleep if there was no transition time. right now i run on 4/ night avg. some more, some less. today is my first day off in a month (not from school though). so im finally getting a haircut, and doing some modding.:)

sorry for the pity hi-jacking, i hope you can find some time for it, its a good project and i like how they are turning out so far.

+rep for sticking to it man

Ok, sorry for the wait on this project, but i had to take some time off from it due to working 7 days a week. I needed a break from this project anyway, it was giving me a head ache. My friend mike came over today and used my garage to work on his Lian-Li Case (PC-360), I completely threw away the idea of the acrylic bands.

I sat around all weekend and tried to figure out what i could use instead of the acrylic bands, when finally i got an idea after almost throwing away my friends trash. The top of his Lian-Li case had a sound protective foam sealed on the top, and i noticed it on one of his scrap pieces. The metal was 1/8" thick and about the same for the foam, it turns out it made a perfect strap for the reservoir stands.

^This is the top view of the piece of metal scrapped from the Lian-Li case. It's a beautiful piece of black brushed aluminum.

After cleaning up the edges of it a bit, we started cutting out 1/2" strips for the bands. Using our new band saw we purchased yesterday on a whim.

After the strips were cut according to thickness (1/2"), we begun the bending process...

We 1st bent the straight piece of aluminum around our 3" whole saw bit again, to form a U-Shape.

After the U-Shape was perfected, we were ready to bend down the sides.

After the bend was complete it turned out like this...

Then the final process of the bands was to cut off the extra aluminum so it would sit flush with the stands.

Once complete, we had finished, brushed aluminum bands.

Lesson learned, One modder's trash is another's project ;)
Now I'm picking out the right screws for the job, so I should have more updates soon.

Well I just purchased alot of the materials that I'm going to be needing for this mod, and the case it's going to be going on, my Tank Case. I bought some paint, alota plexi, and weld #4 for bonding the plexi together. Updates on the way
