What's up with my friggin' mouse?

Whenever I start my computer, everything works great...

If I leave it sit for a couple hours, when I come back to it, my scroll wheel doesn't scroll...

Thats really weird! I can't even think of anything as to why its doing that? What kind of mouse is it? Maybe reinstall some drivers or replace some batteries or something... idk. lol maybe just buy a new mouse?

Well, first find what the real problem is. Hardware or software.

Try the mouse in another computer if possible. Try a different mouse in this computer if possible. Is it a USB mouse? Do you have a USB-PS2 adaptor? If you're using one, try USB connection, if you're using USB, try PS2 connection.

Failing that, try it in the same computer but with a different OS. Not as difficult as it sounds. Just grab any simple linux live CD, (for this I would recommend puppy (http://www.puppylinux.org/user/downloads.php?cat_id=1), it's only 86MB). Open something to make sure the scroll wheel is recognised (it should be) then leave it and see if it stops working.

None of these will fix the problem, but might help in identifying it.

Is the scroll wheel the only part of the mouse that does not work?
Will the pointer move at all?
