Ok,

I even dread posting about this because it means I'm admitting defeat on this one. I bought a Logitech DiNovo Edge keyboard for my new computer. It was awesome. After testing it to make sure it rocked, I painted the wrist rest part. Then it "**** the bed". I spilled a little something on it, I think monster energy drink. Really not much, Ipromise, maybe 1/2 a teaspoon at most. No biggie right. Then it quit working. I was like ok, no big deal. Just clean it with some alcohol or windex and use the compressor to blow out all the moisture. Yeah, it didn't work.

The keyboard still gets a signal and everything, it just types weird letters that don't correspond to the keys. I took it apart and cleaned everything out. No joy.

Here's what I learned to pass on to everyone else:

Don't spend a bunch of money on a keyboard.
Logitech won't even respond to my emails. So they are good but their customer service sux.
I think I'm just going to stick to case modding and cheap peripherial modding. No modding expensive stuff.

I'm totally up for suggestions before I put this keyboard on ebay for parts.

I'm totally bummed.

Thanks.

open it up and carefully clean it. theres prolly a mess inside the membrane under the keys shorting something out. plus, if its already seemingly dead, you cant really screw it up any more, right?

Buy waterproof keyboard. Logitech Elite, G15 (if I remember, they are waterproof). And in case you are wondering how they are waterproof, it is because there's some kind of casing/panel between the keys and the membrane, with holes and no way that the water can go i nthe keyboard.

I wish I could have a picture... but it's kinda hard to get all the keys to the same place, as I need to remove all of them. ^_^

Yeah, I think your right. I'm going to take it arpart one more time and this time take the keys off and see if there is moister on the membrane.

Does anyone have any experience with this with a laptop keyboard?

I think it's basically the same thing.

If I might make a recommendation, check this one out:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823701021

It's completely silent and is element-proof. I absolutely love it and it's extremely cheap. Plus you can mount it inside the case of other keyboards (use dremel for a hole through which to thread the USB cord) and do all sorts of fun things with it. Including rolling it up and putting it in your backpack.

Anyway, thought it might help. I love mine.

Commando don't fret mate,
Do as suggested. Take it apart and clean the "infected" parts with IPA (Iso-Propyl-Alcohol) and nothing else, not Windolene or Cillit Bloody Bang!!.Leave it open after using IPA to evaporate off the rest. Then, with a lint-free cloth clean the membrane and the keys. Don't rush it. Put it back together and hopefully We can all sleep in peace. It is'nt the end of the world Bud.

The reason I can be sure of this I'm a Laptop/Notebook Technician, and we get all manner of "spillage" at work from various beverages to various bodily fluids.. After "Customer Support" tellin them that there laptop is dead, and often out of warranty, it CAN still be fixed with a little care and pacience.

Hope it helps Dude and good luck Fella.. Peace..

Thanks Blue. I think your right. The signal is there and everything. It just seems something is shorted.

I'll be honest, your telling me exactly what I wanted to hear. I was hoping someone had seen this happen to a laptop keyboard, because that is basically what this is.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

just one stuck key can bring the entire board to a halt. check to see if any of the keys, especially the shift, space and enter keys have a steel spring clip under them---these are usually a trouble spot and need to be cleaned. Check all things mechanical before checking for shorts.

just one stuck key can bring the entire board to a halt. Although that tends to manifest itself as a constant beeping at boot time, or even a 'keyboard error, press F1'
Still worth a look though.

"spillage" at work from various beverages to various bodily fluids..Well they shouldn't be looking at that stuff at work... ;)
