So the town store is re-opening. It's right across the street from my house, I was their first customer. I'm helping them set things up right now. Everything is going to be computer run now. All of their inventory and financial things are all taken care of on the computer. So I setup their system, got everything running, got all the software installed, and started learning the programs and then enetered some of their inventory. I had an idea though, to have the video from the security cameras be able to be monitored on the computer screen.

This is one of the cameras

Looks like they use a coaxal cable. I'm not sure what the system they all run into is like. I think it's just a TV somewhere. Now, does anyone have any idea how I could set something up so the cameras can be viewed on the computer?

my first idea would be to use a vivo video card
second idea use a tv tuner board, it should be able to display the signal it gets from the camera

hope it helps

They make security PCI cards for PCs, and software that records video from 4 different cameras. I'd give you links, but I'm busy right now.

Right now the cameras aren't hooked up to anything. But they'll be getting cable internet there soon. Think I could run them over a network? Though then I'd still need software for recording. They have like an 80GB hard drive and will never use all of that up. So we should be able to record every day onto there just fine.

To save space on the HDD, you could use different formats (if there are any), or you could decrease the quality, like black and white instead of color, or have it take only a couple frames per second. There are multiple advantages and disadvantages to this though, such as if you lower the resolution (which I wouldn't recommend), it'll be more difficult to identify the person or distinguish different traits, if it's black and white, it won't really matter unless you're looking for clothing color... and there's much more...
