I know my computer has a worm on it. I probably got it from my brother's computer. Right now I'm working hard to kill it. I just don't want to format. Anything else I should do to secure my computer?

works great for me and if you don't know how to use/look at the list then go to http://www.castlecops.com/.
and post the log file (note that everything on the list isn't bad some(mostly) good).
No, I have to use Bitdefender. it's the only thing that can get rid of this. Sure, I could just delete files, but these are things I need. I'd ratehr repair them.

removal tool here (http://www.bitdefender.com/VIRUS-1000066-en--Win32.Polip.A.html);)
Oh ****. That might just do it. Currently I do have bit defender that I'm using to get rid of it. But this is specifically designed to get rid of that one worm?
I just got an alert from Avast that C:\WINODWS\system32\smlogsvc.exe is still infected

GiPo@Utillities Remove On Boot.
This add's the abbillity to delete selected files on your next boot. Before the OS loads, before the file has a chance to reproduce.
Works the first time every time!

When the going gets tuff, reformat it... Thats such a stupid and tedious thing to do. You might aswell not have, save, install or do anything at all if all you do is reformat everytime somthing starts acting up.
Bad rep for that, sry...
Spawn:
With that program, you just right click on the nasty file and select "remove on next boot". Restart your computer and its gone.
GiPo@MoveOnBoot
Copies, moves or deletes files and folders on the next system boot. The utility is very useful when the user needs to replace or delete files which are locked by other applications, loaded into the memory or just cannot be changed until next system boot.

Did you make a restore point before this happened? Mabey it made one for you and you can just revert back. If you don't have a restore point and other utilities won't work, you might be able to just delete it entirely from your computer by using that utillity canabalisitc is talking about if you can get its exact location. It's pretty risky though. I had a nasty virus once that I just could not get rid of so I just deleted the registry key altogether. Problem solved.

See, i use Registry Mechanic aswell, so i'd be practicly immune to anything that could be fixed simply by editing the registry. That program is a gem right there. Download the trial if you can and just see how many problems you'll no longer have to deal with.
All in all, i feel that im completely covered from virus', spyware and other threats by the software that i run on my machine. It may not be what you all might choose, but im not the one here asking for help with a virus and i've not had to reformat or repair windows in close to two years.
Im not picking on the poster but i've seen enough posts on enough forums about virus and spyware problems. Not to mention the problems i, myself have had. I've used tonnes of software, at least a thousand titles. Thoes few programs i use have shown themselfs to be the best of the best. I whole heartedly swear by them.
I got rid of that worm, finally. And no formatting was needed. Formatting is always my last choice for everything. I don't even want to clean install Vista. Once I get it, I plan on just upgrading, not formatting.
And if I backed things up and then formatted, what if the worm snuck into the things I backed up?

reminds me of what i wrote on a busywork essay about spyware our computer teacher gave us (he has a good sense of humor and liked it), it was something along the lines of.
if your computer is ever infected with spyware follow the procedures below
*warning can potentionaly be dangrous*
1. remove hard drive from computer
2. place on non-stick cooking pan
3. douse in gasoline
4. light that son-of-a-CENSORED
the flamable spyware will quickly burn off. just to be safe microwave on high for 30 seconds before returning the drive to the computer.

Heh heh... wow... there's also my favorite, "throw computer across room, and then beat with Maglite." Yes, that happened once before, but let's leave that bridge uncrossed. I'm jealous Minty, you get Vista Ultimate? Man... :(
EDIT: Thank you Minty for the link to AntiVir... I'm downloading it for my desktop and my handheld. W00ts!
EDIT: Crap, I can't use the mobile version because I need a license, and the test license form is broke :( Daggonit... ah well, I'll get it when I save up some more money...

Sorry guys, but AVG has 100% detection rate with the smallest RAM imprint. Just because it has a ****ty interface doesn't mean it blows. It's the one i use and recommend, although their entire protection suite apparently has some flaws.
I was tempted to bad rep the guys on the first page for posting useless responses, but i decided not to because it's worth 5* what you deserve. Just put the word out on the street that next time i might not feel so...merciful. Mwuahahaha.
