stop laughing, i am talking about the cannonball run (http://www.cannonballruneurope.co.uk/), cannonball 8000 (http://www.cannonball8000.com/) and Gumball 3000 (http://www.gumball3000.com/)....
what do you know about them, besides the fact that you go from A to B as fast and as funny as you can :D
and another question, did anyone in here ever participated in one of this things ?

I read in an issue of Sport Compact Car where they did the NY to LA one. They're based in LA, so they drove from LA to NY to LA agian, all in a Nissan 350z. It sounded like they had a blast.
I hope to do this sometime after I get out of college. I'm already planning a road trip for my Graduation, so the college thing should come two or four years later.

They mentioned Ford F-150's on their website, so I guess it's open to all. Unless you meant offroad or something.

Well, you're paying for hotels, food, drink, track days, and some other stuff too
50k does seem a bit... bourgeois, though.

oh ya, the track days... i would expect that could be pricey. but still, i sure wouldnt pay $50 000. i could do a lot of things with that kind of money.

yeah 50k$ is to damn much, but you are running trough roughly 5 or 6 countrys, talking about the gumball
but the cannonball run looks good from where i look, and its a lot less $$$

They sound like fun! We had one here in Australia in the Northern Territory, as they had no speed limits there on the open road (That changed at the start of this year. BOO! HISS!).
Unfortuatly, some Japanese bloke in a Ferrari crashed and killed himself, so they decided not to do it again.
What we do have still is the Targa Tasmania. A couple of weeks of flogging the **** out of all manner of cars on public roads as they race around Tasmania. I'd love to do it, but it isn't open to bikes and my old Hillman wouldn't be anywhere near competitive.
I dod do my own versions though on the bike. Pick a route from a to be and see how quick I can get there, but I don't like discussing specifics of illegal speeds on public roads, but I will say my R1 goes just a whisker under 300km/h...

when you say you make your own, do you go alone or with friends
i'm asking you this because, IF i manage to get the vette :D, i would like to pull off something like this, maybe a Berlin dash, but i don't really know what you need to plan for

Sometimes solo, sometimes with friends.
For us, our only plans are where we are going. We mostly know the roads and the risks.
Being on a rather large island, we don't have to worry about border crossings and anything that may arise going into a different country and possibly breaking their laws.

It's nothing worth worrying about. I'm just not in good enough shape at the moment to do something like that....yet!

There might be. I'd probably do that.
BTW, I'm pretty sure that something along the lines of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo (5, 6, or 7, please) or a Subaru Impreza WRX (2.5RS, STi, P1, etc) would blow the doors off of a truck on an offroad rally course. =]

'Tis true, good physical shape makes or breaks your racing.
I fancy a bash at the Scumball.....sub £1000 cars, overheating and oil stops are the order of the day.
Much more my style...
