Alright. I have two monitors (obviously) and I ran UltraMon for awhile. I can't fork out the 15$ needed to register it, and I would like a program with the same functionality, but instead it's free.

I have no idea where to look, as I only found out about UltraMon from a friend of mine.

So please, help me find a new application to help me manage my monitors!

Thanks in advance,
-Omega

If you have nVidia cards, their drivers should have the dual monitor feature, and from what I know, it works quite well. If not, you might could use google. ;)

ahhhh what u running

im not hardcore nvidia that much i mean i would go nvidia over ati for the most part at least for widescreen(s) gaming but what really turned my off to crossfire was that disgusting dongle thing for the cards ew! i do on the otherhand like how they stole nvidias bridge design and added a input output bridges not jus one bridge

nVidia didn't pioneer SLi, some other old company did. nVidia just revamped it.

I'm running an ATi Radeon X800SE, AGP 8x. That's not really important for something that's software-side, though.

i have ati AIW 2006 pci-s edition (which is not worth the money, the video card is the only good thing on it. the tuner sucks) anyhoo i have option for dual monitor and it comes with software for it. i'm not sure what your looking to do eactly
http://ati.de/support/drivers/xp/radeonx-xp.html

the Catalyst Software Suite is what i use if i ever set up dual monitor. i can hook up a tv and then record a show from computer to tape.

I think they bought out voodoo, which did the first dual card setup(as far as I know), but I think there are two different systems and the accronym stands for different words.

they did by voodoo and SLI stood for scan line interleave read about it here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scan-Line_Interleave) i actually have a 3d fx card in my old dell linux box its pretty cool

That is correct.. 3dFX was the company that introduced SLI .. Originally it meant Scan Line Interleave. BTW Dual Voodoo2's ROCKED in their day!!:devious: Nvidia purchased 3dFX and decided to resurrect SLI but in their case they define SLI as Scalable Link Interface. Where as they technology is similar they each have their distinct differences.

Ok now that the history lesson is done. I was in the same boat when it came to Ultramon. The Nvidia control panel allows you to setup the dual monitors, and I believe there is something similar for ATI. Basically I think it has more to do with the Display settings in Windows. (Extend the desktop on to this monitor setting.) What Ultramon does is give you ALOT of functionality when it comes to using dual monitors. I used the trial and was hooked! I looked far and wide for a free or open source replacement, but never found anything that was even similar to it. Finally I broke down and just spent the 40 bucks. I figured its a piece of software that I use single day, so you break that down I thought it was worth 11 cents a day for a year. :)

Dang you beat me to the post.. Thats what I get for answering the phone! hahah I just remembered I still have a 12MB Voodoo2 in a machine sitting here next to me, along with an 8MB All-Wonder Pro, running Windows ME.. hahaha

I wonder... would nVidia drivers work on an ATI card? It would be interesting if they would, but highly unlikely...

I know that the Omega drivers are universal (and not where I get my name from) but I'm not sure about Multi-monitor support.

What does UltraMon have that Hydravision doesn't?

On that note, how do i re-enable the shell support in Hydravision? I remember having it and now it seems to be disabled.

I used to be an ATI fanboy, and i'm currently running 2*19" monitors on a X1900XT 512MB DDR3. Unfortunately, ATI's dual monitor support really is crap. Unlike with nVidea, you cannot 'span' the monitors together to create a single screen, allowing you to run certain games (World of Warcraft, Age of Empires 3) across both monitors. This pissed me off, so i'm back on the fence between ATI and nVidea again. Next upgrade could go either way i'm afraid, although i acknowledge that ATI have the fastest GPU's at the moment.
