i got a old computer that i got from my friend, its an old HP pavilion.

and when i got it, there wasnt a Hard drive. so i went out and bought a 6.4GB 3.5in IDE CAVIAR 26400. and i really dont know how to install it. I know i am suposed to make a formated disk that is DOS bootable, but i really have no idea how to do that.

can any one tell me what to do, or give me the link to a good tutorial

the model number of the drive is AC26400 00RN

With another computer, when you go to format a floppy, it should ask if you want it to be an MS-DOS boot disc. Select it and format. (asssuming you can do this on another computer)

Then boot up the computer with the floppy inserted. Now you've booted up to DOS.

Another way is to go into the bios and manualy select the drive as the primary boot device. It should go straight to a command prompt if no O/S is installed. Or you could boot off the O/S cd and format the drive that way.

Download that, run the executable under Windows, install on a floppy disk that will be used as your boot disk. It's the boot disk that Windows 98 SE creates during the installation, which creates a RAM drive, placed after the hard drives and CD drives, and will contain all the utils you need (fdisk, format, etc).
