Now that we're into the rep points... is there any way for us to disable them?

The only way would be to not use the system.

That's the thing... I've seen other vBulletin forums where you can pick either to have them enabled, or disabled for your account.
Just asking.
If possible, great. :)

Sorry Ben, no. While people can leave their name in the comment if they wish, the system is designed to be anonymous so that people can leave rep without worrying about having a -rep as pay back. Say you left me a -rep for some reason, and I could see who it was from, I could go and get angry and give you back a -rep back. Then the whole system falls down. Same as giving +rep for no other reason than getting a +rep from someone.

I still don't see why you would want to. Crimson Sky has his disabled because, well he runs the board and with his work his rep would already be maxxed out if it was available, so there is no point.
For anyone else who had it disabled, I would wonder why? Either they had a bad rep and didn't want others to see, or they were planning on not helping anyone and being a general pain and didn't want that showing. This is the first forum I've been on with it and I really like the concept. Far better than just a post count to see who is good or bad.
What IS your reason for wanting it disabled?

I could let you hide your rep points, but then what would be the point? It sorta relies on the fact that you can't control it in any way to be an effective way of keeping folks straight.

I like having it always enabled. It's good to see the people who are getting enough bad rep to be red, and enough good rep to see who's a nice guy.
And, I usually leave my name too.

You mean there's red for overall -ve? I haven't seen any yet.

Intergalaticman had red, but has since gone back to green. There is a few people with grey (neither positive or negative) and one other person has red I'm sure.
Fair play to intergalactic man, I never seen anyone go red to green except him.

Wasnt it cause he hammered that phishing guy?
Would telling people why he went red kinda be breaking the rules?
Even the unwritten ones?
(not that the nosy part of me doesn't want to know...)

Thanks Dave :)
I was just wondering...
If this forum will have all its users have rep points, I've got no problem at all.
Just asking. :)

Grey is for those who have registered but have less than 10 posts.

Grey is for those who have registered but have less than 10 posts.
Not when you are talking about the actual users rep. Everyone starts with a rep of one, and a green box. One -rep sends their green box to grey, a second -rep sends it red.
They grey you are talking about is when you get a rep from a new user and it shows up grey in your user cp. Different thing to what I am talking about.
Here's the colours taken from the member list:
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/7774/repsds7.png (http://imageshack.us)
Top is red for a neg rep
Next is black for Crimson Sky with his disabled
Then grey for a zero rep
Then green for a postive rep

We should write a rep FAQ

There are already 3 threads stickied at the top of this forum which deal with reps.

So we're really just re-discussing something that has been previously discussed two times? Re-re-re-discussed?

pretty much, though I have added a couple of points that aren't in the other threads. I might combine all my knowledge of it into one post and add it to a stick a bit later today
