i like omega's idea of having a staging system to turn on the computer
i would use something like this
http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/imageserver.x/00000000/streetflame/switch_panel_blue1.jpg
but i would only have 2 switchs
and have it so it cuts the power to the power switch. and maybe even have a finger print scanner somehow. though i'm not sure if you can set up a finger print scanner to turn on your computer. if you could though i would have the sequence like this switch 1 on> scan finger> switch 2 on> push power button

Try Canadian tire. I was there earlier today looking for different kind of light switches, and I'm sure I seen one almost exactly like that for about $3.00. It was in the car section, where they had a bunch of different 12V stuff like lights etc. for cars. I remember that they had a nice assortment of different switches, and it's a Canadian store. As for the fingerprint setup thing, I have no idea, I'll leave that to someone else to figure out.

I don't know about honest-to-god fingerprint recognition switches, but you can use touch-sensitive switches, sort of like what iPods use.
I feel important. My staging system idea's been picked up by somebody else.
Oh, and for maximim effect, you should have a key in there somewhere, and a hidden button so that people can't turn it on without knowing everything.
Like, my computer's power button doesn't do jack bo diddly, I have to type "power" and hit the enter key to get it to turn on (mobo feature).

yes, the finger print scanner is a bit much, at least for turning the computer on. i would like to have it setup so it will log me on. what i would love to do is copy crimson's idea with the doom 3 garage door idea and i would have the power button behind that door and a key. i would get one of those emergency stop bottons and instead of an metal door a plexi glass window saying "break glass in case of computing emergency" and make a X in the background to make it look like it will break away. if i learn to use that google sketch program i will make a case of what i would want. unfortunately i won't have any of this stuff done for a while, no money, no parts.
I can hear you all now, sitting in front of your PC, on Skype to the presidente...
I want one miiiiiiiiiiiiiiilllion dolllars....
Mwahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......
I do know there are fingerprint scnanners for computers. Not sure f you can turn it on with it though. And I did see before a little button that you could hide anywhere, and when it detects the electrical presence from your finger, it turns on.

I've seen fingerprint scanners for computers, they plug into the USB slot, and from what I remember, the cheap ones were about $25... I can't remember where I saw them though... but I do believe, with the correct software (which should be included), you can use the scanner instead of a password, or use both, if you're that paranoid. ;)

Ya gotta think outside the box.
Computers don't have toggle switches like that, so what does?
Tuners. Those little fast and the furious cars.
Pep Boys, rose auto, Discount Auto Parts, Advance Automotive, Murray Speed and Custom, Garman 4x4, etc. Not sure what your corresponding stores would be in Canada but you get the idea.
Walk into any of those and they have a huge selection.

Ahhh, just like the dead man switch on my land cruiser... I like this idea for a computer! No access to the pron unless you know which button to finger....
