Hi ya'll, i've been lurking for a while now and recently joined. i already posted a few questions but never introduced myself. i noticed how some of you talk to each other like if you were one big geeky family. i'd like to be a part of that someday. so let me start again

my name's Sam. live in sunny SoCal. moved down here from utah a couple of years ago. yes i'm mormon, no i dont get offended by that lol. i've been around computers since high school, now now, dont think i'm that old. i'm part of 2002 class, so do the math. like i said i got started on computer cus of adobe's little unknown software called Photoshop, anybody ever herd of it?:p . before it was pencil, paper and eraser. then it turned in lcd screen, mouse and keyboard when i was introduced to it. didnt care much of how a computer worked, i just wanted to know how to use it. so time passed, and like any teen i got my car. it's an 03 mitsubishi galant and it happens to be black. blk= black 03=2003 mitsu=mitsubishi. it was brand new, straight out of the dealer and it only took me 6 months to make it look like it came out of a junkyard. first thing i did was rip out the stock sound system. then came replacing the front, sides and rear with fiberglass ones. hood was bought from a member of a car forum so it came purpleish looking. used to be CF but he had it painted to match the car. so i had a black car with white front, sides and rear and a red hood. it looked like a piece of junk. as for my defense, i was into imports before all that "fast and furious" madness came out. it's good that it has faded now. anyways, i dished out $12,000 on sound system, rims and other mods. i'm not bragging about it, i actually regret spending that much into the car.
i started regretting it when i crashed on my way to work. at that point it click. i know there are projects that you put 100% of yourself into but i was obsessed with the car. at some point i spent 12 hours a day working on it on the weekends and spending every cent i earned on it. when i crashed, i was left without something to mess around with. thats when i started to mess around with the insides of computers. i learned what a typical PC needed, like a mobo, processor, ram, hd, psu etc... and i ordered the parts from newegg. it took me a whole saturday to put it all together. everyone was waiting on me to get electrocuted or have something blown up. lol but everything worked. it worked perfectly and flawlessly for about 5 months. i dunno how good it ran after that cus there was a break in at the office and it was jacked lol. after that my gurl's pc died on her. did a little research and found out the PSU on eMachine's were frying mobo's. i found a pc at work that wasnt working and pretty much pieced a new pc out of my gurl's and work's pc. a year later still works. now i'm looking into making my 3rd project but finances hasnt been that great. got married 8 months ago and about 6 months ago we started planning our catholic wedding. yes catholic, i'm still mormon. lol the father looked at me many times during the ceremony like he wanted to kick me out cus i couldnt follow with what was going on lol. so yeah thats my interesting intro lol........i hope i didnt put anybody to sleep

for all you car audio guy's here's what my system consists of

Alpine 7" flip out touch screen. JL 6" drives in front doors, with JL 6x9s in the rear deck, powered by a JL 300/4 amp. on the trunk i got a threesome of JL 12" W7 subs, thats righ 3 W7s. each running on their own JL 500/1 amps. ported custom enclosure. it was actually made inside the trunk. it takes most of the space. there's no way of taking out the enclosure without taking it apart. 0 gauge wireing. all amp/sub/power wires are JL brand. red top battery, some caps in the trunk too. at one time i had a 2.5" screen molded into the drivers side a-pillar.

Welcome to TBCS. You'll most likely be part of the family without much time at all.

Hi Sam and welcome to TBCS. I can't speak for myself, but the folks here are pretty damn cool and helpful. Why, it wasn't long ago that they finally accepted me into their little pop culture cult of kooky computers. I might have to pick your brain on the car audio stuff eventually--have a great time here!

Hey welcome. I'm LDS too and have plenty of experience with extended family not being members, especially my girlfriend's dad, who is an inactive member. Welcome to the boards. People are friendly and nice, a little sarcastic at times, but pretty much everyone means well. Post some pics of your PCs. Also, I would take a little time to read the stickies and familiarize yourself with the Rep system.

Again, Welcome!

Welcome to TBCS! Everyone here's pretty nice. As far as Sarcasm goes, you really aught to take a look at some of the other tech/computer forums out there... Asshole to nice-guy ratio is through the roof.

carputer? yeah i've thought about it. my only concern is the heat. black car + sunny weather 90% of the time = hot temperatures inside. even if it's water cooled, i wonder if the radiator will be able to cool down the water with the constant heat....

Welcome. We promise not to treat you differently because you are Mormon or that you married into a Catholic family. According to South Park, You picked the right religion! Oh and I know what you mean about all the Catholic rituals, every time I go to church with my in-laws (once every 5 years for good measure), I feel like I am at JC's exercise class... They just laugh at me as I stand up during the kneel down! And I really want to know what that guy is burning in that smoke pot...

Anyway, welcome, now post some pics of your rig! (the drivable one as well as the 'puter one)

three words:
Cold Air Intake.

i bet you'll be the first one on the block with a scoop just for your PC!

you could also put the PC radiator in the AC system somewhere. it would make for quite a bit of drag on your alternator with the AC and PC running at the same time, but you could always get a bigger alternator.

slap on a turbo to keep your car's power up and you've got the fastest internal cumbustion PC case this side of the mississippi
