How much energy do I consume?

Ok guys... this is one of those wierd threads.

I added a poll on top, with some options.
Obviously, we're leaving out lots of possibilities.

In general, how much energy do you think you consume daily?

Please exclude: cars, transportation, things not directly realted to you (if you're an IT manager, please don't count all your 200 computers as your own), jacuzzis, water heaters, etc.

Please include things like: COMPUTERS!!!, TVs, radios, stereo systems, xBox/360,

Here's a quick run-down of energy stuff:
If you have a 100watt light bulb, and you run it for one hour, you will have consumed 100watt.hours
If you have a 250W computer, and run it for FOUR hours, you'll have consumed 1,000watt.hours, or 1kiloWatt.hour (1kWh)

Sooo... what to do?
Simple.
1st -- check out the wattage of the item in question (say, 500W Nintendo DS)
2nd -- make an estimate of the time you use it per day (say, 4 hours)
3rd -- multiply Watts x Time = kWh (500W x 4hours = 2,000Wh = 2kWh)
4th -- do this for the other stuff you want to include in the estimate, and add them all up
5th -- select option on above poll

I hope this turns into an interesting poll.

NOTICE: I haven't drinked my RedBull today... so, if there are any errors (math, grammar, etc.), please bring to attention.

I don't really consume a lot of power myself because I only use a laptop (90w) and watch some TV daily + the lights. Of course, because I don't own the house (i.e: I'm 15), the air conditioner and refrigerator probably use the most power.

The easiest thing for you would be to take your electric bill and see how many kw/h you used in a month and divide it by 30 or 31 which will give you your mean electricity usage. Or you can check you power meter outside in the morning and then check it again the next day at the same time. (24h later)

BTW, since when does a DS use 500w? lol

And I almost forgot: 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!!! -Doc from BTTF

I'll have to do the math on this one since i cant locate my electric bill.

My bill = $175 for a 2 month period.
My price for 1KWh = $0.36 roughly.

So, if my calculations are correct.
2 months = 486KWh
1 month = 243KWh
1 day = 8.10KWh

My bill used to be a lot higher due to my stereo's powered sub woofer. 500watts continuious, morning, noon and night. I've cut back to a 85watt woofer with an auto kill for when the stereo's in standby. I allways try and get flourescent bulbs and rarely use my stove. However, when i am home, i've allways got to have the stereo, computer, lights, and ocasionally the television going.

[edit] the fact that you know how to spell that guys character name says a lot about your character. :)

I voted for the last choice on the poll. Me, alone in my room.... I consume about 13000 kW a day. Between the 5 computers always running, the huge TV and the 3 surround sound systems in my house... lets just say we waste a lot of money every month.

550w computer, 100w speakers, two monitors (lets say 50w each), on for like, more than 6 hours a day. Then add in: second set of speakers, 40w, light, 25w.

That's just about 815wH. At 6hrs/day, that's 4.8kWh.

Omega, a 500 watt PSU does NOT consume 500 watts per hour. That number is just what the unit is capable of. A typical gaming tower consumes about 190-210 watts per hour, not including the monitor. We use a device called KILL-A-WATT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882715001) at home, which measures what appliances consume.

Well nothing said I was running anything else for all 6 hours as well. That was more like the peak amount I'd run in a day.
