Hey guys, just thought I would post up some pics of my mod in progress.
So far I've added 5 red LED 80 mm fans (2 in front, 2 in back, 1 on side)
Everything is getting controlled by the Aerocool Powerwatch Multipanel
My next idea was trying to figure a way to make a speaker mount on top that would look nice and be decent. Problem I am having is I have no idea how to rig up a speaker to be able to play other than ripping apart an old pair of speakers.... which would work pretty good hmm.... ANyone ever do something of this sort?

yes, fixing the pics would help. but anyway judging by what you wrote you wan't a speeker mounted on top of your case? and what's your delema of figuring how to rig it up do you mean plugging it in (adding a 1/8" jack, or something else..)? or making a cabnet for it? (I would love to help out, I'm obsessive over audio crap)
Idea's for your speaker mod:
watch out on your placement becouse: magnets + Hdd or flppy drives = :dead:
where is your case going to be located? if up high and your speeker is going to be ear level, you can use tweeters, but tweeters (high freq. range are VERRY directional, so you'll need an equivalent speeker on the other side to balance it out
mid range: if your comp. right is right in front or behind you,or to the side at a reasonable hight you can use midranges (not as directional) (but, again if it's to the side again you have to have another speaker to balance it out
bass/woofer, can be placed anywhere, just be carful, due to the heavyer wattage of these speekers, they have a stronger magnet.
also, try to avoid contact with the case, I'm not shure what kind of metal it's made out of, but there's a posibilaty that you will make a magnet out of your case if the magnet of the speeker touches the case..
those are just some tips/sugestions, you dont have to follow them if your not to picky about the "feel" (panning) of the sound
hope this helps

Edit: please exuse alot of the grammer and spelling errors, I kinda rushed this (plus I suck at spelling..)

Your images have to end in .jpg, .gif, .png, etc. They can't be just URL's in IMG tags.

agg.. they show on mine.. it seemed i had that album setup on private... should work now, if not I'll publish them elsewhere.
Yes Nick, you have the right idea. I did think that the magnet issue would be a big problem so i was thinking tweeters used in car installation with one mid range speaker for more bass sound. Also, is there a way to insulate the box i will make from magnetic fields?
My idea was to fabricate a compartment that would go on top of the case (perhaps also used as a handle) That way it would be out of range of the hard drive. Using some car audio speakers would give me nice sound but no protection, and I do not know the best way to rig that up I.E. what would I use for power source, what would be a good size speaker etc. Another Idea I had was using some desktop speakers and just rehousing those into a metal housing. Also perhaps using headphone speakers and using an amp source to pull more sound from them.
I was thinking of using these : http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6987004&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03075&id=1099389702481a

Hmm, link doesn't seem to work... ("this page you acessed doesn't seem to exist anymore") but anyway
yes you could make your own megnetic shielding, but I think the easyest thing to do is, what you yourself said, take a PC speeker. why?
1- they already have a built in amp (depending on which one you get, in paired speekers, only one of them (usually right speeker I believe) will have the amp, and in 3+ setups the amp is usually built into the bass.
2- they already have a pretty damn good megnetic shield (making it safe to place beside CRT monitors)
3- the tweeter and mid-range will already be balanced.
so yeah, IMO get the desktop speaker.
looking forward to seeing your mod.

(btw, nice case I <3 that controll panel of yours)
Edit: oh and simon275 I think he means he has Dual core... orthose funky mobo's with 2 seprate processors... (forget what there called)

dude did you say you had 2 pentium 4's
is that on a server mobo or something???
Skriger

It's not 2 Cpu's when the info pulls it from dxdiag, it says that. It really is dual core with hyper-threading.
Thanks Nick, I thought about it pretty much throughout the day I am going with the desktop speaker setup. now off to steal my roommates.... ;)

Small Update: Initial Design completed, partial parts ordered.
Ok so I finally figured out that I will use desktop speakers and to keep the profile of it down, i will use these:

And here is what the final product should look like once I have finished:

(good speeker choise btw, prob not the best quality, but perfect for this mod)

Wow nice draw up. Having speakers like that would be good for lans.
Maybe next time you could separate that image into two separate ones or make it smaller as it messes up the page layout

The design looks very nice, I used to have a pair of I-trigue 2200's I used at work and they are pretty decent. Im not sure how much it could affect the performance with speakers this size, but I seem to remeber those were ported in the back (I gave em to the girlfriend, will have to check). You might want to figure out the airspace on them for doing sealed vs ported so they sound the same in the new enclouser. (im assuming from drawings you have this as sealed)

That was something that I did noticed about the original housing for the speaker. I will try covering the port to see if there is a significant difference in sound quality, if so, then I will probably make a port on the sides for air travel since most of the mechanics will be in the rear.

Well, my original idea on making the speaker box in still in the works (probably start on it this weekend)
But I just got finished doing a quick paint of the chassis. here is some pics.
(i will keep them smaller this time hehe)
Step 1: Case rip down::

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Skriger/Computer/0325071735b.jpg
Step 2: Sanding down entire case
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Skriger/Computer/0325072027.jpg
Step 3: Apply Paint Coat: I chose Apple Red Rustoleum. I also only used one coat since I didnt have enough time. I could use one more coat then a clear, but im not picky. The spray paint i used worked out great and has a good mirror finish (would look better with a gloss clear coat)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Skriger/Computer/0325072035.jpg
Step 4: Re-assemble computer:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Skriger/Computer/0325072334.jpg
FINAL PRODUCT!! I am very pleased! the gloss red really makes the case look brighter than is normally was. Gives is a faux appearance that is brighter.

OK, i photobucketed the pictures so nobody can jack them again.
Nothing yet with the speaker system (working 50+ hours a week) but will keep it up to date.

Just a question how does the aerocool frontpanel work? i've been thinking of getting one myself
Skriger
04-24-2007, 08:50 PM
It's pre-wired and labeled for each fan control and temperature detectors. The multifunction panel plugs into your usb pins on your mobo (install drivers first) everything else is works quite well. Only Con about it is some of the plugs are loose when connected to the fans or the 4 pin molex. The temperature detectors can break VERY easily and arent completely accurate if you are trying to use it for VID or CPU temp. ( it has one 4 pin to power the unit and another 4 pin to power the power usb conntectors)
Overall a great front panel and to minimize having multiple front panels for each item. The temperature feature can be switched from F° to C° and it also has a clock.
