I have a dvd rom that doesnt want to run properly. Itll run on one PC, rip dvds and run them perfectly normally, but when i tried to install it on another PC, it just doesnt want to read discs. if i try to load up the OS with a dvd in the drive it takes forever to boot everything, but as soon as i eject the disc, all is well.

someone help me!?:?

cables should be fine, although im gonna switch to another just to be sure. ive tried 3 dvds in the dvd rom and they all produce the same results.

right click my computer
click on Manage

bring up device manager from list on left
there should be a DVD/CD ROM Drives tree
expand it
find the drive that is not working and select
delete
close and restart.

^usually fixes the problem and the drive gets reinstalled when restarted.

I would also check the slave/master configuration on the PC that doesn't want to work. Assuming you are not using SATA cables, check that the drives are correctly assigned as slave and master (both jumper settings on the drive, and connection on the ribbon cable) as per your motherboard's directions. If they are not, this can produce funky results. Just a thought

That just reminded me... be sure your CD drives are NOT running under UDMA66 / 4 mode or higher. In my Pentium3, I had incompatibilities with my CD drives when using my UDMA66 cable, probably similar to yours (I can't really tell, it's been like over 6 years I had that problem). Simplest way to try it out, use a standard IDE cable, and put it on a separate channel than your HDDs.

Or, instead of changing your IDE cable, you could force the DMA mode under your BIOS to UDMA33 or DMA 2, or something similar, for your CD drive.
