The other day I pulled my computer out of my desk to hook it up to the projector instead of my monitor. When I plugged it in it shut off. Now when I turn it on it is giving me a beep code. 1 Long and 1 Short. My mobo manual says this is (apparently) a DRAM or M/B error. But when the computer boots up (it still boots up) it displays that I have the proper amount of RAM and the computer works fine as far as I can ascertain. Nothing seems to be wrong except that for a while now if i bump the tower too hard or try to fiddle with cables in the back sometimes it just shuts off. (Ive already gone through all my cables several times and theyre all nice and snug). anyone know what may be the issue with either of these things, or if theyre related, and what sort of action I should take? Im stumped.

There are several things I would try...
1. reseat all cards in the mobo
2. check all the screws securing the mobo to the stand-offs
3. switch the RAM modules being very careful (if you have two sticks try only seating one at a time and see what happens when it boots) This can tell you if you are having a problem with one of the sticks very quickly
4. If all else fails, take every thing apart blowing out any dust and ensure all is plugged back in properly
One thing you didn't say was whether or not you still get the beeps
Hope this helps,
Agnat

I think agnat's advice is pretty solid. One thing to think about is whether you were plugging your projector in, were you using on-board graphics or a PCI/PCIe card? If it was a card, you could have nudged it out of it's proper seating (agnat's step one would address this). Otherwise, unless you really jolted the thing around I can't think of anything off hand to add to the above.

Thanks guys, I will try that when I get home and see what I come up with. per your post agnat, I get the beeps every time I turn on they computer, and I was plugging the projector into my PCIe card. Will try your suggestion (i leave here in about 1.5 hours) and post what happens.
@jdb: not bumping it hard at all, theres not much room under my desk and sometimes my knee gets it while im turning in my chair, its shut off from that before :/ thing is it worked fine just a couple days ago

ya i had my older computer beeping when i accidentally hit the video card. i took it out then placed it back in and it worked perfect after.
'Aint graphics cards a bitch?
Just the slightest movement and they're off.
Usually get a load more beeps from a graphics card problem though.....

Update:
-Since this started I have since put the whole computer in a different case, so everything has been dismantled and put back together, still doing it.
-Ive checked each piece of the RAM and its fine.
-Ive made sure everything is seated properly.
-The computer beeps at me but still works like normal.
And so I am stumped. I have concluded it must be the mobo, but once again the computer runs like the day I bought it. Any thoughts? Its a really grating noise and I dont want my compy to die because there was something wrong I didnt know about...

Is your CPU fan plugged into the motherboard or PSU? The mobo might think there's no CPU fan running.

CPU fan is plugged into the MB and runs

Ticien,
Could you check if your case has a "open case" switch?
I remember wierd beep codes from a computer here @ the office... and finally, it was a stupid little 'switch' that, when you opened the case, it would short the circuit... whatever... I guess it was for security or something (on a machine that doesn't cost a keyboard).
Anyway, I went to the BIOS, looked for the "security switch" or "case open" or something like that, disable, and off we went.
Either that, or some CrazyGlue.
Let us know. :)

CPU fan is plugged into the MB and runs
..._and_ it must be plugged into the fan header specifically labeled for the cpu...

Possible...I know my motherboard has a sensor on it that will make the computer turn off if the case is opened. I will try messing with the settings on that and post an update when i get home.
And ill make sure the fan is plugged into the right spot, though i am 99% sure it is..
