Hi, i just joined these forums, casemodding is only something i've came across recently, and i want to learn more about what i can do. On my own rig, I've wire-brushed the metal panels (took em off first though!), made a window with grating on one side, and added a Firewire USB card. But no, i'm not quite finished. I plan to paint the front plastic panel aluminum, and do something with my drive bays. I want to add an LCD Touchscreen to the front. Do you know any good models that'll fit in the space of 3 5.25" (i think) bays? If not, I'd like to hear alternatives, or other things to do with the space.

And remember, I'm a casemod rookie, don't hesitate to put it into words I can understand. :D

Welcome to the forums!

About your question. Does it absolutely have to be touchscreen? Or is that just an added bonus? If not, PS1 screens are used quite frequently, and are a great place to start modding. That will definitely fit in the space you have without too much cutting of the case (if at all) and works quite well. There are wiring diagrams all over the internet on how to do this, just Google "ps1 screen case mod" and you'll find thousands of answers. If you must have a touchscreen though, search eBay (your new best friend for old stuff like this) or www.earthlcd.com. eBay will have a lot of what you need, but if you don't have one already you'll need a PayPal account (no biggie). The stuff you'll find is cheap, and will get the job done. Otherwise, search around some online stores for touchscreen kits, and look at some wiring diagrams for them (they should have some, and if not, you'll get help here). Look in the DIY section of the stores.

Good luck, and again, Welcome!

It doesn't neccesarily HAVE to be touchscreen, but it'd be really cool. Unless I could wire, like, a laptop mouse into the screen, so i could control it directly. I was considering getting a program that would fill the LCD screen, and basically pretend to be an OS.

I'll head on to Google, but only after i go to 7-11 for my caffeine fix.

EDIT: Back, checked out the places, and i've decided to go with something full-color, possibly the ps1 mod. Are there programs i can use to monitor CPU Temperature and things like that, so i can put them on the new screen?

I don't know if any of those are touchscreens, but having a touchscreen really is just a waste of money in my opinion. But to each his own. ^_^

I don't think they're a waste of money, just don't put one on the front of the case; especially if it's on the floor.
Having one on your desk can be useful if it's used for drawing and stuff. My dad has a Wacom Tablet (a touch pad, not screen) and it's pretty cool to draw stuff on.

Well, i've been busy with some stuff, and I finally got around to Googling the ps1 screen. I found few results, most being on eBay. Unfortunately these were 'bundle' packs, with the actual system, CDs, and such. Do you guys know any good places to get the screen?

Preferably in the Sherwood Park area.

EDIT: Update! No PS1 Screen, however, I did manage to rustle up an old DVD player. I gutted the thing and it still appears to work. Taken the DVD reader, buttons, and other stuff off of the circuitboard (it's unpluggable so i can plug it in again if need be), and it still shows the DVD player screen. Later, i think i shorted something, because i'm getting a blue screen instead of the DVD player screen. I think it'll still work with the computer though.

As for the drive bays, the screen seems to be slightly wider than expected, but it seems like it'll still fit. However, i will need to do some body work. (also, i'm not quite sure how i'm going to hook it up to the motherboard or whatever. Any advice? Pics coming once i find the digital camera.)
