What is the minimum recommended edge i can leave around a case window without completely sacrificing the stability of the side panel? In other words, how much space should there be between the window and the edge of the case? I want to make my window BIG, but i dont want the side of the case to be all wobbly.

the size of the case is: 205 mm (W) x 566 mm (H) x 474 mm (D)

the materials are: Aluminum front panel, 0.8mm SECC body

here is a link to the case itself: Silverstone TJ-06 Windtunnel (http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/tj06/tj06_spec.html)

and yes I know it has a window but i want it bigger and a different shape.

In my (limited) experience the window can be as big as you can make it without fouling the case when you try to install the cover back on.
The structual integrity is made up by having the window bolted in place.

I'd say about 15-20mm is all you need but don't cut too close to the edges of the door. (about 20mm from each side of the case)

When sizing your window, make sure that there is enough room for the door to slide so you can close your case door.
In terms of how the window looks, you may not want to cut it so far forward that you can see the HDD cage and 5" bays.
Rounded corners are also nice looking.

Thanks Redundant. Im still playing with the exact shape of the window i want to make, but the stock one in the case is definitely not the shape i want. And now that I have my tax money, i think its about time to get it in gear

What do you suggest we use to bolt the window in place? Would it be sufficient to just pre-drill holes in the case and window and then use a nut and bolt?

Yep! It works for me. I use a small Allen head bolt with a nut and washer on the inside.
The Allen head bolts look neater than a normal nut and bolt and only cost a few cents each.

Mark out and drill the holes in the case first so you have them all even. Then drill through the window using the case as a guide. Do one hole, then add the nut and bolt, then do a second hole and add the nut and bolt. That will hold the window in place while you go around and do the rest of the holes in the window.
