Alright well, I know alot of you may have better systems, but I want to design this one just for PURE gaming. I'm not quite Cemented to a specific setup but here's what I got so far. I havn't ordered any yet as I still need a bit more cash, But Hopefully you guys can help me decide.

(hopefully I didn't forget anything. All prices are from Newegg) Alot of Fatal1ty Products, there designed for gaming.

COOLER MASTER Ammo 533 Case = $76
Pentuim 4 650 Prescott 3.4 ghz LGA 775 = $87
ABIT Fatal1ty FP-IN9 LGA 775 nForce 650i = $138
Zalman Fatal1ty CPU cooler = $50
XFX Fatal1ty Gforce 7600 = $160 ($20 MIR)
Western Digital 500GB Sata2 HDD = $140
2 x 1gig Corsair DDR2 667 Memory = $125
BFG Tech 650 Watt Powersupply = $120
2 x Asus Sata DVD/RW + LSCRIBE =$70

Might be abit expensive, But I'll save up for it part by part. I got enough for the CPU + mobo already.

No dual core?

Do you know the shipping charge?

Why two opticals?
650W PSU... isn't it... a lot?

Look, if you want to go with all of these, it'll do a kick-ass rig.

Just my opinion that you can save money here and there in two or three things.

So far, looks good.

Don't forget to pay for your copy of wXP!

I got Windows XP Pro, Corperatal Edish, MCE '05, Vista premuim home + Vista Ultimate. I like Windows.

Shipping isn't more then $50 from newegg. 2 Opticals so I can also handle "Instant Burn" for w/e reason. Yeah its alot but I don't like to strain a powersupply or anything. Better to be safe. BFG tech is also a good brand, its there lowest PSU. Dual core = bad for gaming.

I see two possibilities.
1- Bill Gates loves you.
2- Bill Gates hates you.

Something tells me it's the latter.

Dual core = bad for gaming.
O'rly?

Uh, I don't think that is the case. Maybe his mouse, but certainly not other stuff like a motherboard or video card. But if the Fatality (spelled it wrong on purpose) parts you chose happen to be the lowest cost out of all the other brands, then it's ok. But don't pick those parts with that thought.

Instead of the Zalman Fatality, I'd recommend the Tuniq Tower or the Thermalright Ultra-120 (with a Scythe S-Flex fan (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835185006)).

Here's a graph of the two displaying their performance at different clock speeds:

I feel if your going to use your machine for gaming, you might want to beef up your system a bit, Bros games machine:

AMD FX62 - $900
ASUS Crosshair Mobo - $250
Corsir C4 Dominator 800 - $300
OCZ 8800 GTX 764MB - $800
250GB Sata II Maxtor - $120
780W silent hyper - $200
Gigabyte 3d arora case - $200
2X Generic DVD/RW +/-DL - $60 each

$=USD
Now thats a BITCH

Oh, I got something else to add.

You can get the EVGA 7900GS for $140 after a $15 mail-in rebate.

It isn't the 8800GTX, but it fits in your budget.

XcOM, some of the C2Ds beat that FX-62.

Even Intel's mainstream E6700 and E6600 processors beat AMD's highest-performing chip, the Athlon FX-62, in several benchmarks.

Sigman, if you have the money, get a C2D because it's faster, dual core, and uses less power and is much cooler than the Prescott.

You should get something more along these lines:

Core 2 Duo e6600 $320
EVGA Socket 775 680i Motherboard $250
ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm HSF $54
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 Dual Channel Memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034) $230 ($180 w/ rebate)
Seagate 320GB SATA II HDDs (2 in raid?) $90
2 Samsung DVD+/-RW drives (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151136) $65 (for both)
Corsair PSU (520w = $120, 620w = $170) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010320058+50001459&Subcategory=58&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=) <These are said to be really good PSUs
The video card is completely up to your budget and preference; getting one with HDCP & Direct-X 10 support might come in useful too.
The 8600 will have a good price : performance ratio. (coming out soon)

(Most prices are from my memory, they are rounded and not exact)

^This is a great setup and to save money I'd change the processor to a cheaper C2D or a Pentium D, use a cheaper video card

Obviously, you guys don't get it... There are a lot of better setups than what he picked out. But have you ever thought that he has a budget? If you just looked at his last 2 sentences in his first post (as seen below), you would know.

Might be abit expensive, But I'll save up for it part by part. I got enough for the CPU + mobo already.

If he considers his original setup a bit expensive, then it is obvious that the parts he picked is most likely a little bit over his budget. It doesn't help to recommend him a setup that includes stuff like a 8800GTX or a Core 2 Duo E6600.

Then again, he does want 2 optical drives, which confuses me since he is tight on cash. I say either save the $35 or put it towards the CPU or GPU.

Im sure Bill Gates dosent like or hate him, He probably gets the O.S. for free.. You may be asking how? I dont know about him, but my college provides all sorts of software free. Xp, Vista, Photoshop, etc.

Anyways, Have you thought about going with the dieing 939 system by AMD or AM2. Yes, they afre not the fastest but you can get a decient system very cheap.

I'm sure 3.4ghz single core will be enough for now. Keep in mind he's going with an LGA 775 so at anytime he can swap in his Pentium 4 650 for a Conroe or what have you. Actually, Sigman, I'm trying to do exactly what you're doing right now but I hadn't spotted this mobo. It looks really tight and I think I'll order the same one.

Yeah, my budget is EXTREMELY tight. I had a job working at carvel but my dad told me I can't work till summer, he wants me focusing on school as I have to pick a college over the summer. Computer Engineering baby, I got the grades to make it to MIT, lets just hope my dads wallet is big enough.

As for now, I make like $10 aday, helping dad around the office, getting him coffee, that kinda stuff. Now, I had a Pentuim D system die on me (805), I gotta bring it to my local pc shop see if my CPU is still good. If it is, I'll go with a $65 biostar motherboard, becuase barley ANY LGA 775 motherboards support 533 mhz FSB. So the motherboard is cheap but its Biostar, I had nothing but good expiriences with them.

As for the recommended setups, The games i'll be playing require alot of video power. So scratch the 7600, I'll go with a 7900GT. So here is what I am thinking so far if my Pentuim D is still good.

Coolermaster Ammo 533 case
Pentuim D 805 2.66 ghz, OC to atleast 3.2
BIOSTAR 945GZ Motherboard
2 gig ram, Gskill ddr 667, 2 x 1 gig.
500 gig Sata WD
500 watt Tt psu
XFX Geforce 7900GT
Dual ASUS Sata DVD/RW's W/ lightscribe

Now the motherboard supports the 800mhz, so I'll buy the pentuim 4 when I get a chance. Memory isn't that important, The timings or clock deosn't matter, Long as its ddr2 and 2gig I'm fine. Other then that I think everythings set, Let me know how it sounds.

I want dual dvd/RW's for instant burn.

There are a lot of scholarships out there. Maybe you should start looking or applying if you can.

Guardian

There was only 1 MIT scholar around here, I applied but they gave you alot of very ahrd tasks, The guy who won, built some kind of satalite radio or somthing cabable of picking up satalite signals and cell phones and wifi, or something like that. Too much brain power for me x_x

Silenced_Coyote

I know this is off topic. But aren't there other scholarships out there? I think places like banks or other organizations off them. I even saw one for people who worked at Taco Bell.

I live in California, and there is a thing called Cal Grants. Not sure if your state has anything like that.

So, to get back on topic. Is your parts list finalized?

There's also financial aid.
