Gawd.. Sometimes I HATE you.

Yeah, but since they are CRT's I have NO room on my desk anymore (and I have a huge desk). I can only fit the 2 monitors and barely fit 2 keyboards and mice, and during a hectic round of BF2, I almost always knock the other keyboard off onto the floor. (waking up the wife in the process...) (oh and you should see the wheel spin on my power meter when I fire up both those monitors...)

I have some stuff I am getting ready to put up on ebay, then I can replace those monitors with some flat panels... And maybe upgrade to a newer system (and away from this agp slot mobo).

Could be used as a video display, but would require a specific rgb over vga connector setup. I think my cables are 13w3 to vga, so I even needed an adapter to connect it to my O2 (which has a vga out(hd15). Some video cards can be adjusted to output the required signal although I have not tried in a while. They require a specific output with sync on green (not sure of the "official" name without looking at the adapter box). I used them on my O2 and Onyx to provide stereo output to the eye pieces and also have built in headphones. When paired with the gloves and trackers it is the optimum setup for Virtual Reality (although the vr4 was introduced in 1994).

Man, you get your hands on some cool stuff. How is it that you find all this goodness?

Places I have worked in the past. I make good contacts with all the reps at trade shows and those that come into my various labs. I acquired the VR4 and Touch gloves (I also have another full setup with gloves and controller) while managing the Virtual Reality Labs at SGI. Companies loved coming in and having us test their equipment with the high end hardware. The bonus of certifying the gear is that one of us usually got to take it home (if we had another set for the labs). I had a chance to take an immersive desk home (run by a large crt projector) but it would not fit through my door or into my room. We (sgi) donated it to a college. I had hopes of using the gloves and display, but they have been sitting in a box for many years now and it is time to purge. When the labs at sgi were decomissioned I passed up the chance to take tons of stuff home (I value the relationship with my wife too much).

Word for all you youngens (and elders alike). Make LOTS of contacts with people. The hand you shake today could be the hand that pat's you on the back tomorrow (and don't throw a dead fish!). I am still in touch with some of the engineers at this place;
http://www.fakespacelabs.com/ and http://www.fakespace.com/
I have seen a few products (and tried them) before being released to the public. Just Friday I helped an old friend read a dat tape from 1995 for these people;
http://www.bgsystems.com/
Turns out it had code on it that was no where else to be found. (cue the Mighty Mouse theme song), Here I come to save the day! I was told that if I ever needed any second hand gear for any mods (or projects I am working on), to just ask... That saying "It's a small world" is much truer than you realize!

Sorry for the hijack... I would bad rep myself, but not sure I can...

BTW: BGsystems make "real" joysticks with the feel and function of anything you would find in any military application.

Now, if you'd have said that it was your PC you actually use as a computer... that would have been different.
