Hi all,

Noob here!

Here is my current set up. i still need to finish it up but tell me what you all think.

So far I have in my hands:

NZXT full tower case.
BFG 8800GTX factory OC'd
EVGA 680i M/B
Raptor 10,000 RM 36GB HD (free fro m my bro)
OZC 2 gig ram ( free from my bro)
Thermaltake 750 PSU
Thermaltake CPU cooler

Now I am having a hard time deciding on what CPU to get. I am on a budget noe since I spent soo much money on the stuff above. Well my fiancee is cutting my computer fund. :dead:

Anyway I am debating for a E6600 duo core or a E6300. I know I can OC the #6300 to E6600 preformance but with the E6600 I can go beyond stock clock! I am slo looking into a video card fan too so I can keep it cool if I decide to OC it some more, becuase I have heard you can OC it more than factory OC'd.

Anyway can anyone give me some advice?

I have to EE6600 proc...
Haven't over clocked it yet (shhhh!!! Don't tell no one here... lest I get banned).

To be honest, if you're on a budget, take your mind out of the overclocking necessities for now. Forget about the additional fans... the big-ass cpu cooler, fan controllers, etc., etc.
Just because you're on a budget.
As soon as you're more relaxed money-wise, then go for it.

My girl runs superbly with the 6600 without overclocking.

That's just my take on it.

And, BTW, WELCOME TO TBCS!!!!
The friendliest boards on the net!!!

Now, in the words of The Wizard, Go mod somethin'! :D :D

Yeah man, welcome!

You will make many enemies with that setup. Don't get me wrong that, it will be by pure jealousy.

I have a E6600 on my rig, OC'd to 3.10Ghz. It's great with the 4Mb of cache, and is a super performer. Don't underestimate the E6300 though; it's the best OC'er of all of the C2Ds (E6*** that is, I'm not sure about the new ones) and you'll certainly be able to hit 3Ghz with it (with proper cooling). I've seen it done, and I'm sure you can too.

Also, what is your budget? Post it here and I can give some more help.

Cool, thanks for the advice. BTW my Budget was $400 but it got cut to $200. Rumor has that Intel are dropping prices by the end of April but I am not sure if it is true or not.

I might wait til then BUT I need to start up my system! I am too anxious!

Also thanks for the warm welcome!! :)

Also to AJ I have all of the stuff already I just can't decide which CPU top get. I know I will need the CPU cooler for sure that is why I got that first! OK'ing is the way to go. ;)

I would buy the Core 2 Duo E4300 if you are on a budget and you don't want to get your fiancee angry. Has a higher multiplier than the E6300 so you won't have to worry about getting insane FSB speeds to clock it past 3.0 GHz. It also costs less too, just a bit. It doesn't support virtualization though. If you want that feature, then the E6300 would do you very well. By the way, the E6300 and E4300 can OC way past a stock E6600.

NONONONO, do not buy the Lexa & the 8800GTX, it WILL not fit.   Just warning you. The card is 10" long and theres only 9" inside the lexa, i measured cause I have the case and I wanted to get the card. Im prolly going to just get a ATI X2900 or a 8800GTS, so that might be an option for you. The performance difference between the GTS and GTX is that bad and the GTS is alot cheaper.
Also, go with either the E6400 or the E6700.

Very nice setup, dont forget what I said tho:up:

^^Thanks.

No I am not getting the Lexa Case. Here is my case that I have already it fits PERFECTLY! It is a full tower by the way. ;) Comes stock with 8 fans.

I guess I will see how far the prices drop for the CPU's. I am gonna shoot for the E6600 or maybe even the 6700!

Thanks all!

You're kidding me?!
I was just about to order an 8800GTX and have a lexa...
I guess I'll have to remove the hard drive bays and mount the hard drives somwhere else....

Thanks for the heads up though!

I have read that the R600 is going to be longer than the G80.

My brother has an E6400 at 2.6GHz with stock cooling, and i know the E6400 has some OCing ability

Supposedly, the X2900XTX (retail version) is going to be 9.5" long. OEM is 12" long, but you won't have to worry about that.
