Hey guys I really need some help, heres the situation:
I am installing Windows Vista Home Premium. It starts the installer, I enter my CD key and it starts copying the files. After that, it restarts my computer and attempts to boot to the Vista Setup. As setup starts "Microsoft" starts to fade in but then it freezes.

Mind you, Ive gone through with the upgrade adviser and met all its requirements and Ive updated all the drivers.

Please help, I am an uber-computer-geek and really want to get vista running.

Thanx alot,
Indybird

Hmm, I havn't bought vista yet, I don't know what to tell ya. After it restarts take out the vista cd till it tells you to insert the cd okay? It happens sometimes with XP.

Also, Try differn't memory, Might sound crazy but it may be cause of you're memory. Happens sometimes on certain systems to me, I just op in a good working known stick of ram.

This is the upgrade DVD? Are you trying to upgrade Under XP, like the normal instructions? After searching a bit, this is all I found (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5932). If you try this, it might help out. It is a way to do a "clean" install of Vista.

****I'm only pretty sure this is legal, it seems like it would be. It's not like you're trying to install this on a no-OS system, right? If any mods think the legallity of this is questionable, I'm very sorry and I mean't no harm.

I had a similar problem when switching from 2000 to XP.
My screen froze on the exact same switchover and I couldn't even get in via safe mode, couldn't repair or recover, had to start again...
It happened to me 3 times before I got a friend to help.

MY problem (and I have no idea if it applies to Vista or you) was something called MUP.SYS so look that up, there's a ton of fixes for it, maybe something will help you.

It might be the video card. It happened to me while reformatting XP.

Try running onboard.

My advise is to call Micro$oft and make them aware of your problem and your displeasure with their product! I am waiting a long time to go over to Vista for this very reason - it always takes several months before they can fix their buggy OS.

Well I tried 2 different sets of ram and two different video cards and it still didnt work, im gonna call microsoft now.
If they cant solve it Ill yell at them for an hour then go over to a certified vista upgrade computer store (yes I know having other people do your computer work is not for modzors and computerzors)

I had this problem as well with vista and a D805 (2.66) oc'ed to 4.0GHz. I dropped the oc fsb from 200x20 to 190x20 and vista installed no problems. Vista seems to be a little tighter than XP for oc'ing. Try dropping your fsb by 5-10MHz and see if that helps.

Thanks, but I tried installing at all stock speeds and it still froze during setup.

I had a look through some of the other forums and found on forums.microsoft.com that it seems to be a bios problem with your mobo. See here for thread (http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=711249&SiteID=17&PageID=0). Flashing with the latest bios seems to fix the problem.

Hope this helps.
