Dual Intake Upgrade

First a quick flash back. http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6937

For what I intended it too be was a quick mod (2 hours) utilizing what you have on hand and not needing to have a lot of money to make a cool effect mod. However after going over all the comments and input I decided that I wanted to make it into something more and in depth. So I decided to utilize both my 120 mm fans and increase the airflow and cooling, especially since summer is around the corner. I'll also be rerouting the power and reset switches.

First I had to close off the ol’ disk drive bay, I decided to use the scrap cut from the first hole to do this. Since it had a right angle to it that made it all the more easy and all that was needed, was a little shaping to get it to fit and epoxy to hold it tight.

Once it was filled in I began on the measuring for the second intake on the bottom. (little hard to see the flash overexposed the pic)

Using the right angle attachment on my rotary tool with the ceramic cut out bit this time I sliced it out in a matter of seconds.

Bit of filling and sanding, I plan on using body filler to shape out a bevel and over hang.
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/dr4xxx/Picture021.jpg

Golf ball size amount of filler, not too much. Only enough for about 5 mins of work.

First coat: Fill in and lay out base. Rough.

Cure time 24 hrs.

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/dr4xxx/Picture014-1.jpg

Sanded down high points revealing shallow areas. Brushed and Tack clothed to remove any dust particles that will affect the next coat. Also time to do a bit of vacuuming.

Second Coat: Leveling out the lower section. Again just a golf ball sized amount.

Thnx GT40.

Here is a quick Sunday morning update. I'll be going into work later today.

I’ve sanded down the second and third spot coating of filler. I decided that I was at the point where I was getting lost in some holes and gashes and decided that I will spray it down to better view those areas.

After the first coat of primer I found those areas I wanted to catch, so using glazing spot putty I was able to quickly fill in, gave another sanding with 150 grit sand paper.

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/dr4xxx/Picture024.jpg

Took another quick inspection and repeated.

After applying the spot putty I decided to give it another blast with primer. I may need to do another quick spot filling, however I feel that will be the end of that. I will apply another 3 coats of primer then give it a gentle sanding with 220 grit progressively to 800 grit. Then I will apply the final coats.

I will also began the fabrication of the fan grills, using sheet metal and black screen door meshing.

Till next update

Progress Update.

Hey guys, here's an update to where I am at now.

I've sanded down the layers of primer and began preparing for the colour coats.
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/dr4xxx/Picture001-2.jpg
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/dr4xxx/Picture002-2.jpg

Started by giving the back side of front plate a splash of colour.
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/dr4xxx/Picture003-2.jpg

While that was Drying I began on the fabrication of the fan grills out of the sheet metal. Depending on how it goes with leveling, shaping and deformations I may just do it over in plexi.

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/dr4xxx/Picture006-2.jpg
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/dr4xxx/Picture008-2.jpg

After working on the above grills for a good hour and a half.(forgot the pics of filing and grinding :o). I went back to the front plate and began spraying on the colour coats.

That's where I am at now and hope to have this project finished up by the end of the weekend if not late monday.
