So whos the most reliable manufacturer these days? I'll primarily be using it for gaming. Also I'm considering a dual monitor setup, after playing with one at a local store i'm sorta hooked. Multi-tasking is a big thing for me, cause as a college student i'm always trying to alternate between starcraft/WoW and my studies. With dual-screen, I can do both easily!

But of course, the problem there is cost, a single good gaming monitor, last I looked, was like 7-800$. I could maybe afford one of those at that price, but not two. Then again, I havent looked at LCD for at least a year, and stuff is prolly cheaper now.

Any suggestions? How about two-screens versus an actual dual-screen?

One word.

Samsung.

I chose my 20" Syncmaster for two very good reasons. 1 is a 3 year zero dead pixel warranty, the second is we use SyncMasters at work.
The monitors at work have been switched on 24/7, never using a screen saver and they have been there for over 3 years. Over 3 years of being switched on the whole time and NEVER turned off is pretty good in my books and unlikey to happen in a normal home useage.

My 20" SyncMaster 203B was AU$490 and is bloody great in my opinion. I couldn't be happier with it.

Edit: Dual screens rocks!!! I set it up and now I couldn't go back. It is just so much better for day to day use.

How big do you need it? You can find a 19" Widscreen on Newegg for under $200 easily. I'm looking around for one right now too.

Some good manufacturers (I think they're good at least)

Hanns-G
Acer
Dell
Viewsonic

Those are who I've been looking at. They all seem very high quality. This is the monitor I'm looking at (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254001).

Yeah, Samsung and Dell I have heard are great.

Im using a old Samsung 955DF CRT. Its great, but weighs a hefty 40lbs and takes up a huge amount of desk space.

Looking at this one at the moment:

Just dells, price, prolly cheaper if I can find it on Newegg or something. 20" or so iis good. I notice its a 16x10 and not a 16x9 aspect ratio tho. Not sure how big of a deal that is. But its got decent brightness and a 6ms repsonse time.

FYI: The smallest monitor you can view 1080p in would be a 24" Widescreen (1920x1200) (HD1080 =1920x1080)

Of course, it all depends on your budget as the (Dell) 2407 is $629. There may be cheaper 24"ers out there though.

Id recommend the Sceptre X20WC. In fact I reviewed it on this site right here (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7054).

I'll sell my Dell 24"er for half of that.

$300.00 (http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Dell-UltraScan-P1690-24-in) (<-link)
I can't tell if you're joking or serious.

There's no way a 4:3 can show the resolution listed on that page; it's not widescreen. CRTs aren't good for your eyes either.

I meant this. (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-4335) <-That's a real HD screen

PS: I'm happy to say that the only CRTs in my (parent's) house are the TVs; I only use CRT computers at school and have never used one at home.

Yeah, back when I bought the CRT im using now, they were still superior to LCD offerings. Things have changed in 5 years.

Get two 17"-ers. I often run WoW/RA2/WC3 on my main (CRT) monitor, with other ****e on the secondary (17") LCD. Admittedly, I didn't have to pay for the CRT (My dad got 3 of them, brand new from Compaq, with no use for them, so I got one), and the LCD, while it isn't top-of-the-line, does it's job.

Samsung SyncMaster 710v. Look into it.
