Apparently you can pick a theme, and pick different things that are displayed. Things like the time, the weather, your recent Gmail messages, top news stories, local news stories, etc. You'll see all of this whenever you go to google.com

Here's a screenshot of my theme (click for the full sized)

The way my particular theme looks, changes throughout the day. Right now it has a nighttime look to it. Is this something new, or has it been around for a while? I never noticed it until someone mentioned it today.

They released that like a week or so ago, so its a new thing. Its a neat idea.

I tried it out and it was fairly buggy.

I have been using the personalized version of Google (www.google.com/ig) for around a year now.. Its my homepage and its been great for me. I can't think of any problems off the top of my head. Of course I am still using the "Standard" theme, because I haven's seen one that really jumps out at me :). Where it really shines is if you access it from a pda or phone. It will reformate the pages for your device, which has come in pretty handy at times.

I've seen and used it.

I really should set my homepage to something useful (as opposed to http://lolifox.com/start)

xD

Yeah, it's the default start page for the browser I'm using.

Now I'm using their old start page (which is basically like Google, lolifox edition)

You guys should try www.tinyask.com/. It is pretty cool once you get it typed into the bar and remembered. From there you can just start to type it, scroll down, hit the right key, and then type the rest. It takes a little getting used to, but saves time in the end.

I guess I'm special then; I made my homepage. It has all the "quick links" I use, such as this forum. :D

Here's my screen shot of it. (http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/9651/image002ej0.jpg) It's only links because that's all I need. Adding some Java would look nice, if I knew any Javascipt...

I found fairly curious the ads over in the lolifox page

That's a pretty neat idea actually, and it looks cool. I might do something like this, to keep my HTML and such sharp.

Screw making a homepage. It's all about making a custom desktop with links and such.

Take a look at the screenshot in the original post. I have all my links right under the navigation bar.
