Not really a LAN party kind of guy...the computer's heavy! Plus, i can't stand the whole 'l337' bull**** you sometimes get. I'd end up laying someone out flat. I only play with guys i know, which works well for me.

I don't particularly like going to Lan Parties. The "geeks" there are... very annoying usually. But I do love a good round up of the guys to play WoW or Halo or sometimes even bust out the old N64 to have some serious Mario Kart Pwnage!

I'm with DaveW and SnowFire. Only been a participant at one event though. I once "worked" a LAN party for a friend doing tech support and wanted to lay some well deserved smack down on most of the geeks by the time the event was over (some of the parents were the worst). I must say though it was fun.

Occasionally I hold a private lan party at my house with a dozen or so friends. It usually happens when the SO is on vacation for a few days with her sisters or friends. It is mostly adults (although one friend brings his kid), so we behave like adults and break out the fresh keg of Blackthorn and loud music. (yes my neighbors love me!)

Never got the chance to go to a LAN party. I'm sure it'll be interesting. I bet some of the people there would be impressed with my computer, but not impressed with my Halo skills. :( I'm not that good in Vs. Halo battles; I like Co-op more.

I am with the old guys on this one... I cannot STAND 'leet speek' or stupid people in general so I really only game with people I know.
We have long distance LAN parties and talk to each other with TeamSpeak.

Even in EQ2 the only rule for our guild membership is that you have to be able to meet for lunch once a week.

I don't like going to LAN parties anymore. Used to love it, playing SC or just some good old CS or CS:S.

I just hate the fact that some people get pissed off because they lost or everyone seems to pick on them more..then they get all drama kinged!!

There's a LAN Party hosted at my school from time to time. Most everybody there is over the "l33t" bull****, and if they aren't, I tend to be able to mop up the floor with them ;)

It has around 150 attendees, most of which are students of the school. We play everything from UT2k4 to WC3 to C&C games and plenty more.

In high school there was a lan party about every 2 months.
Lots of CS mostly. Warcraft 3, Mechwarrior 4, Total Annihilation, and a few other games, but CS was our prize pig.

I used to love lan parties. All of us went to school together and would get together and play CS over a weekend, or spring break, or 5 days in summer.

The biggest party I was in was 28 people in a basement. That took some work and some extension cords because we kept flipping the breakers.

I've also done some work for a local cybercafe that isn't around anymore.

Now I don't do much of it. I prefer large tower builds with lots of equipment inside, which isn't very fun to deal with at LAN parties. I don't play many multiplayer or online games anymore either.

I dont like sponsored LAN parties but I love arranging them. Then again, I really dont know if its called a LAN party with only 4 people and comps. But if its with all people I know then I LOVE LAN parties.

Every Wednesday night, a group of us (5 - 8 depending) get to gether at someones house (last week was my turn to host), and we do multiplayer mayhem. The host gets to pick the game, though we usually end up in Halo2 or Super Mario War (google it.. hehe) by the end of the evening.

I usually grab a projector and screen from work, and we have 4 people on that, and 4 people on the hosts tv screen. 2 Xbox 360's, 2 Wiis, or whatever, and we always have a great time.

Last week when I hosted, we had 2 xbox360's and played 4 player Call of Duty 3, and 4 player Gears of War. After we finished a the beer, I busted out the Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 4, and we pissed off the downstairs neighbors. Good times.

We've done N64 nights, SNES nights, Dreamcast makes an appearance usually, and next time I host, I'll bust out the Sega Master system! Oh yeah, good times. :D

Tonight I think it's either Gears of War or COD3.

But an actual LAN party? Nope.. never been. :D

Biggest LAN we ever did was 6 people, played Company of Heroes 3v3, it was AWESOME! Of course CoD2, BF2 and FEAR: Multi. FEAR is a great game for LAN parties. A friend of mine kicked our asses with his judo kicks!!

Had 4 events! It's best if you have a laptop, but since I was the host, didn't differ that much, I have a Qosmio F20 btw.

LAN parties are good with your friends, good fun.

My university runs huge lans every month. I prefer to play a few quiet RTS games with my friends Total Annihilation, C&C Generals, AGE 2, 3 . Lan parties can be annoying as some people can take it so seriously.

But seeing the face of someone across the room you have never met who has just got a couple of m4a1 rounds to the head is most satisfying.

The only lan party I've been to is one we have a couple times every six months when two of my friends come home from college. And it's only 3 people.

never been to any, dont plan to either. i dont associate well with gamers in general. if im ever at my friends place playing on the 360 or something... im either quiet or ignoring the idiots and narrating my actions in the third person past tense.

if i ever found myself at a lan party... i think fists would start flying in the direction of the pathetic and/or fat people. god i hate fat people...

i love doing LAN's. Usually have about 6 to 8 people over in the granny unit that my parents built. It's perfect, we got a kitchen, bathroom, and pantry with lots of drinks and food. We usually end up playing WoW, CS:S,DoD:S, CoD 2, WC3: TFT, and BF2

It seems that almost everyone here that plays LAN's, does the homegrown version. Hard to not have fun when it is your friends and not total strangers with attitudes!

Cyber cafes have their place. They're good for a loyal base for mmorpg or FPS players to cut their teeth in tournaments or for people who don't game and want some experience without having to invest in a machine and the game.
It's easy to slap down a few bucks and try a new game vs. buying it.

The only problem is winter is slow(which is where your loyal mmorpg groups come into play), and social conflicts.
Gamers talk a lot of smack and some people take it too far.

I've been at a cyber cafe where drunk college kids came in, got owned at CS, an argument ensued, they were tossed out and urinated on the display windows at the front of the building. Yes, the cops were called and yes, the drunk guys got arrested.

Outside of this, most gamers have gamer friends and little LAN parties are by far the way to go. It's a lot more fun.

That's one of the most pathetic things i've ever heard. Jees, some people.

Then again, the smack talkers can be just as bad sometimes. Anyone remember that story of the Japanese guy who killed a dude because he lent him his sword in WOW and the dude nicked it?

...Wait, what?

If your friends are crackheads, why do you hang out with them? I'd punch them in the face and take their lunch money if I were you.

You're going to college next year? And you're 13? If this is true, I wouldn't expect much LANing if I were you (older kids tend not to like kids 5 years ahead of their recommended placement hanging out with them..)

Ok, back to LANs.
I think I might be having one tonight, if all is still go with my friends. Probably only about 6-10 guys, all good friends. I've never been to a big event with kids I don't hang out with, but my school has them from time to time. I might go to the next one, but I haven't decided yet.

I occasionally go to lan parties with my friends. We usually just play halo. In fact thats one of the reasons i got my 360. I got tired of being on of the only kids who didn't have a system. I enjoy them it gives me a chance to hang out with my friends. Another thing is i can usually count on lan parties being "substance free." Thats why its the only type of party i would ever really go to.

im sure if it ever came to something we could chip in for a fund for the less fortunate to come over.

I find its always better to have a lan with people you know (Even over the internet) than strangers. i went to an old i-event, didn't like it, friends lan parties, LOVED IT

azminisk8r
03-31-2007, 09:28 PM
yeah second me on that UK ticket lol, isnt there a way to have lan parties without being directly connected or am i completely confused, i mean technically we're all connected to eachother through ethernet right now if we hacked therough the companies servers to make it appear as a direct connection wouldnt it be just like lan???

Bucko
03-31-2007, 09:48 PM
except that you have internet speed connection issues. LAN means having the computers all connected together via a Local Area Network, not via some people on dial-up, some on slower broadband, some on faster.

And hacking servers is illegal. Quit talking about illegal things on this board.

.Maleficus.

Well put.

And yes, technically we all are connected to each other, but not as a LAN. If we were all connected as a LAN to begin with, we'd need a new name for the parties.

isnt there a way to have lan parties without being directly connected funny you should mention that...i just came across this nifty little program called hamachi. anyone heard of it? it creates a LAN-like connection over the internet. they got a wikipedia page about it on how it works. the website is hamachi.cc if anyone wants to look at it

azminisk8r
04-01-2007, 11:32 AM
yeah i wasnt talking about directly hacking i mean passing the companies like hamachi that make a LAN type connection

XcOM
04-01-2007, 04:24 PM
i chacked out hamachi.cc, it creates a VPN, there ok, but not the best thing in the world, they can screwup peoples home networks. I have tried myself to hook into my dads network, yes we did it, but the hassle we had accessing our own network was bloddy hard

Mine you i used a workgroup rather than a domain, although i will change to a domain once my server has been massivly upgraded.

andymushu
04-02-2007, 01:00 AM
ya it does screw with home newtworks prety bad, at least mine. its wireless, and as soon as i got hamachi running it switched to that and killed my internet. took me about an hour to get it reset back to normal. other than that though, its good. lol

LAN Parties...the idea always seemed fun to me, but my tower weighs a ton, and I dont really play FPS games, especially CS and all 4834756 WWII games, and the like which seem to be popular. I am way too competitive in video games and I don't handle 1337 speaking and smack talk well. Also I can't stand those uber geeky kids. I will agree on getting together with friends though. That is a good time.
