Most people use Skethup around here. Its a fantastic program and I've designed some pretty cool looking PC's if I do say so myself using that program.

I'm a fan of 3D Studio Max myself... But I also used it in school for 3 years... So its pretty easy for me... A lot more complex than SketchUp, though...

I perfer graph paper and a .7 mm pen or pencil.

Add this together with a scanner or even a camera, and your good ;)

I use Archtectural Desktop at work on a daily basis for 8 hrs, Max, and ocassionally sketchup but that is only for google earth stuff. and some Revit stuff.

I also use a program called Cyclone for High Definition Surveying. Very cool!
