My parents finally are getting me a new computer Since its going to be my birthday ( i'm turning 16). I'm going to be getting it from Pc. Richard & Sons So i was wondering which 1 to get . I might install ubuntu on it incase i don't like windows vista but i'm not sure. The current computer i'm on will be turned into a server.

In case you don'T like Vista, you can still put XP in it. I never saw Linux on a Laptop... LOL

lots of people run linux on laptops. The onlyproblem is finding drivers for the integrated wifi found in most intel laptops.
Those are both nice laptops, you just need to figure out if you want AMD or Intel. I'm not sure how the battery life compares between the Core 2 Duo and the Turion, but I would vote for which ever gives you the longest battery.

Dual-Boot man. Run both linux and vista.

I like the first one, even though it has less HDD space and is more expensive. And I'd do what chaksq said and dual-boot.

The first one definitely. On the Sony site (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/%20INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=c1N7ER4EOVV5c1gUaPlxGlEVZfhFdN4rj7Q=?Cat egoryName=cpu_VAIONotebookComputers_NSeries&ProductSKU=VGNN230E%2fB&TabName=specs&var2=), it says you get $50 off if you buy this month, just FYI.

C2D beat out any AMD in power by a lot like and hour or 2 against the FX ones, this is just from memory, it was in a maximum pc mag but i lost it, :(

C2D will beat AMD in performances and power saving. On desktop PCs, they produce less heat and totally outperforms AMDs, and uses less watts to function. Laptops are about the same way, but for less performing CPUs...
