Why doesn't Microcrap update MSPaint!?!? I mean really! Is it so hard to do what these people did?? I haven't seen Vista yet though, how is it in Vista? Any changes at all?

Paint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net/download.html)

Like a photoshop for noobs. <3 it.

Oh yea... check out the "line curve" tool. Now THAT is a nice feature!

OOH! And also the "free form shape" tool! Cool!

Wait, Wait. I found another... THE GRADIENT TOOL!

*falls over laughing*

So simple, yet so... fulfilling. I have a new found hate for MSPaint now.

Looks like other image editing utilites. So why not just get Photoshop or Gimp

Never tried Gimp actually. Idk, this program is just SUPER easy to use. Photoshop most definitely is not. That could be just a CS2 thing though? I've only used CS2 and it was a pain to learn. Not to even mention the load time. For doing quick simple things, Photoshop sucks imo.

But I'm not trying to compare this to Photoshop. I'm just saying... its a great MSPaint substitute. The best I've seen so far. I guess you could say... that its better than MSPaint but not as confusing and much easier to use than Photoshop.

Photoshop is very easy if you have 2 hours to put into learning it. Gimp is the same way. I recommend both, but Gimp is free. Do you have any screens of this Paint.NET so I can see before I download?

I have years of experience with Photoshop, so to me it's easy. I just made things as I needed them, and that's how I learned. Like, if I needed to do something and to make something in Photoshop for myself, I would just find out how to do it, and then do it. And then all those little things added up and gave me an idea of how to use everything.

If you like to use photoshop and you don't have any gripes over it, then I wouldn't recommend this program. But if you use MSPaint alot, then I definitely recommend this program. Its super fast, super simple, and overall a very very easy program to use with more features than MSPaint but without making it confusing or difficult to use. Here's a screen, but you wont really know what I mean until you actually try it. It's not a big file like photoshop or anything, its just meant as a *much improved* mspaint.

BTW, I just looked at Gimp. Looks pretty nice. I don't know why I never thought of that program before, its mentioned throughout tons of forums all the time. Oh well, for mspaint stuff I'll use this, for more advanced stuff I'll use Gimp. ^_^

That actually doesn't look too bad.. It looks like a quite nice substitute to PS or Gimp. It has most of the same tools (from what I can tell), layers, history, effects.. Now if that had the same kind of effect that Flash has when you draw with the brush (it draws it rigid when you're drawing, but smooths out when you finish, to make a much less pixilated and yucky picture) I'd be all set at home. +rep on the find though.

And BTW, I like your start button.

Edit: Apparently I need to spread out some more rep before I give to you, so it's coming, just not yet lol.

I would take a screen shot of the "gradient" tool in action, but it wouldn't do it justice. It really is pretty cool. You can adjust it and readjust as many times as you want and however you want. Almost all the features are like that. They have these lil circle things for adjusting stuff. Pretty cool, probably my favorite feature so far.

Thanks for the +rep btw. :)

Why doesn't Microcrap update MSPaint!?!?

Simple answer: because it's the only piece of software they've ever released that works perfectly. It's simple, bug free, does exactly what it says on the tin...in short, it's as close to perfect as any MS piece of software is ever going to be.

Damn straight.
Exactly!

Although, NotePad comes pretty close...
But it doesn't have colorz and stuffz. :)

BTW: I'm trying to download the program... but, the internet is conspiring against it!

Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp!
Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp!
Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp!

I used Paint.NET for a while, and wasn't that impressed... sure, it's ok... but I still prefer Gimp. Paint.NET (to me at least) seems like all the rest - corel, PSP etc. (decent enough in their own right.. and yeah I know corel and PSP need moneys).

If you've got the dough, CS2's about as good as it gets (back on windows now, CS2's a go go!), if you're skint, I still don't reckon you can beat The Gimp (if nothing else, for the name.... Gimp, lol).

If you've never used Gimp, give it a bash. Cost ya nuthin... and if you don't like it uninstall it. Same with Paint.NET. Have a bash, you might love it, and if you don't it's not the end of the world.

I don't think Corel's products are that bad *shrugs*.

Not saying corels bad... their stuffs good, just uninspiring.

If I'm paying, it wants to be good good.

I used to love PSP, but I got CS2 and fell in love properly.

And I know you're a gimp man Mal......

I've used Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver (though that's not for art..), all sorts of stuff. For some reason, my school has all of it. And on some computers, my school has Blender, Gimp, and Audacity. For what reason I don't know, but hey, it's fun when I'm bored. And my dad has some old version of Corel Draw on a disc somewhere, and that's fun to mess around with. But yeah, I prefer Gimp, because it's all I had when I made my first switch to Linux a year ago, and didn't have Windows at all.

O yeah, and Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org/) is a great little program too. Check it out, you won't regret it.

BTW: All those programs are on some 30-odd 20" iMacs in a writing lab. And that isn't even all of the iMacs scattered around our school...

Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp!
Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp! Gimp!

Heh, best not skip to page 2 on THIS thread, eh?

Now that there are various GIMP users here...

Could somebody please shed some light onto the array of windows, icons, bars, docks, thingies, that are the graphical user interface of GIMP?

What the heck is up with that?
Do you guys find it useful as it is?

...No. It really isn't too useful, and yes, it is pretty confusing. I did what xmastree suggested in a different thread (thanks!) and made all those appear in the main bar, so only that and the image are windows. To do this, you click the little arrow pointing left on the main screen. Do you see the tabs, one has a paint brush, and a few others? It's right under that, to the right. Click that, and select "Add Tool" and select anything you want to be displayed in that window. I'll see if I can find the thread, it has a much better explanation than mine.

I've been using PS6 forever and a day. I've even done plenty of photomanipulations of cars, among other things. I want CS2, but Don't have the moolah to buy it, and the trial sucks. =/

Man, I've posted Paint.Net a bunch of times in this forum. I met the guys that programmed it. It was a senior project so they could graduate, and MS now hosts it on their site as a replacement for MSPaint.

I've never tried Gimp but plan on testing it out soon.

Can you believe MS has the MSPaint crap since Windows 3.1??

Was searching for a screenshot of W3.1, but found one with the PaintBrush icon (good old MSPaint) :)
