Well, Hello. While i'm not new to the internernet, this is really the first community I have ever joined. Not that I have anything aginst the community forum or anything like that, I just never found one that really inspired me. Case modding though. . . hmmmm. Bout ten years ago or so, I had an idea for a wooden case, talked it over with a few of my tech "friends", and they managed to discourage me from the idea. But I never truley lost intrest in the idea of case modding.
With that said, a little about myself. I'm 38, married with 3 kids (step children), and if I had done what I was told when I was younger I would be 4th generation bomb blider in the familey. Personaily, I got better thing to do with my life then trying to find more efficient ways of mass destruction. Just my personal oppoin though. I have 2 years of machienst training, 3 or 4 years of cabintery experience, and a computer science degree. Truthfully, I got a lot of other experience also, just not really usefull to case modding.
A this moment, i have several computer just laying around my house and have been doing a lot of thinking of late as to what to do with them. None of them are to great. I have an old AMD 233Mhz over clocked to 300Mhz with 256 Meg o ram. An old E-Machine ( yeah, I know. . . E-machine. . . what a piece o crap) and a HP that's only about 3 years old, so it's like 1 gig processor probley 256Meg of ram. Something like that. Anyway, I am thinking about one of them becoming an "entertaniment" system. Nothing to great, a DVD player, T.V. video card with freevo ( some Linux software to make your PC a tivo) , LAN connect for mp3 and basic internet connect. My mp3's are on my server for network access. To be honest, of late I have been pondering an actual entertaniment standwith a PC in the side. Something where the PC is hidden and out of the way, but still with easy access. But that's just an idea.
Well, that's about it for me. Thanx for haveing me on, and happy modding!!:D

Your machinist training can be very usefull in modding. If you want to try building a wooden case then your cabnitry skills could also be of use. There are plenty of wooden cases out there. Look through the project logs to find them. A dremel tool is a good investment to get into modding as it is so versitle and precise.

Not too sure about the specs but the HP would probably be your best bet if you plan on using your old hardware for the entertainment machine. Might see if you can add more ram and you definately need a huge hard drive a graphics upgrade might not hurt either. You should check out newegg.com and consider building a new rig.

First off, Welcome to your new ADDICTION. Second you won't get anyone here trying to talk you out of making a mod. Only time that will happen is if it'll be hazardous to your health. You will get instead a vast array of advice and first hand knowledge on anything you can think of when it comes to modding. Look forward to seeing your future mods and hearing your ideas.

Welcome! I agree mostly with SpaceHonkey. You will almost never get talked out of a mod _even_ if it IS hazardous to your health (although we will publicly discourage you and take no responsibility for you trying to jump to the top of the Darwin list...)

Heheh

Once again WELCOME!

Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year next to my birthday. (you don't get presents on Halloween!)

Can't wait to see some of your ideas!

Good luck!

Awesome, I completely love Halloween and especially mods made to be dark and moody. If you're into the whole Halloween thing you might like some of my ideas I have for my mod. http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?p=85519#post85519 I'm currently in process of buying the parts for my mod. I would be glad to any suggests that you might have.

If you need any help with SketchUp there are a ton of people here who can help out with tips and links to tutorials. Don't forget about the 3D warehouse either, it's a huge time saver. That's where I got my complete human skeleton.
