i was playing goldeneye:source the other day and i was thinking-is it possible to mod an n64 controller to usb, a lot like the mod that was posted by sgtm (i think...) for an xbox controller. btw, here is a link to the ge:s website, in case anyone is interested (its still in beta, don't expect too much). http://goldeneyesource.com/

Not sure. The reason why we could mod an XBOX Controller to a USB Port is because the wires Microsoft uses are the same as USB wires. At least I think thats how it works.

You would have to get your own program to program the N64 controller. It's not as easy as spicing the wires and plugging it in. After you do that, you have to program it. For XBOX controllers... there are tons of programs that allow you to program a XBOX controller. For N64? Not sure, you'll have to google it.

I've seen this done before, but why use the N64 Controller? It's a bit unwieldy; the gamecube controller would be much nicer!

Of course, each to his own. ;)

This reminds me... In a PCGamer I got yesterday, it explains how to use a Wii controller as a mouse and stuff. If anyone is interested, I can post it for you.

hey mal, can you post that? I hook my computer up to a projector every now and then and the gyroscope mouse i have is hard to use because you have to hold down a button to make the pointer move...im interested to se how a wii controller would work as a mouse

According, to this forum (http://www.criticalsecurity.net/index.php?showtopic=20612), the hookup would be the same as an xbox controller.

you could still use xbcd as a driver...

I'll open my controller up and take a look (N64)

EDIT:If you were to splice the wire coming out of the controller you should see 4 wires of four colors (white, black, green, red)

Red (+), Black (-), White (data -), Green (data+)

Just connect them to a male usb port...

Here's a cool "mod" with the wiimote:

Here you go Ticien.

Setup.

You need a Wiimote ($39.99 MSRP, if you don't already own a Wii); a sensor bar or the equivalent (candles or Christmas lights will work in a pinch - you just need a strong source of Infrared (IR) light place on top of or below your monitor); a Bluetooth USB receiver with drivers (a list of compatible devices can be found at http://snipurl.com/14zjl); and GlovePIE, a free software suite that supports add-on scripts for the Wiimote. (Get it from Carl Kenner's website, http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com.) Now, plug in the Bluetooth reciever dongle into a spare USB port, install the drivers, press buttons 1 + 2 on the Wiimote, and set your software to search for the nearest Bluetooth appliance, which should be called "Nintendo RVL-CNT" and listed as a peripheral. The drivers need to recognize the Wiimote as a HID device, which can be set in the connection wizard of each program. Now, run GlovePIE and select File, Open, Test-Wiimote.PIE, and move your Wiimote around. If the numbers in the white box of the program change as you do this, it means everything's working as it should be. If not, head over to hacker's haven at www.wiili.org/forum to troubleshoot.
You can also use it for drumming, guitar playing, and FPSs, and here's all you need. For Drums, download Wiidrums.zip from http://www.bobsomers.com/2006/12/06/wii-drum-machine/ and load GlovePIE (run the script). Guitar, check out http://snipurl.com/15510. FPS: Download the IR Sensor script from http://www.vkapadia.com/wii/windows.php and load the script in GlovePIE. A and B will be given right and left mouse clicks. Then, run the FpsGames.PIE script (comes with GlovePIE) and you're good to go.

exactly what i was looking for, except for the fact that you have to buy it :(. right now i am in a situation where i can't afford money for a decent cpu fan, let alone fancy peripherals like i want. this at least gives me hope that it can be done. did anyone find anything like a diy guide or anything? i searched google for quite some time and i turned up nothing. anyway, thanks for the link cana, quite helpful. +rep

PS2 to PC: Super Dual Box Pro (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-6m-49-en-70-qc3.html) $10.32 + $3.10 US shipping = $13.42
It seems the only difference between this and the previous link is that it includes the driver and the controllers can then be completely remapped. Different vendor but the site seems legit enough. Anyways, sorry this was a little off topic but I love supporting Sony. Which brings me to this bit of information... I bought a brand new madcatz wired xbox 360 controller at my local GameStop and I have to say this- it might as well be a playstation 2 controller. Pressure sensitive buttons, completely analog joy sticks, almost identical button configuration EXCEPT, the left analog stick and the directional pad are switched. Oh, and the bottom shoulder buttons (what would be L@ and R2) are more shifter style, if that makes any sense, I don't know what they are called but they are similar to the dreamcast shoulders except a little less obnoxious. Otherwise, the feel of the controller is very similar to a PS2 controller yet it is USB. I would highly recommend getting a brand new wired, third party xbox 360 controller for easily under $30 for anyone who wants a nice controller for their PC games. Any frequent member of this website should know enough to find the correct driver and configuration information online in less than an hour, otherwise I've got a very nice windows XP guide bookmarked. Alright enough hijacking :P
