Hey Guys,

A question: is it possible to mount a motherboard horizontally, upside down? And if it is, is it feasible? I'm thinking about a water-cooling setup, and trying to figure out a way to cool both the processor and graphics card with as little damage as possible incurred by possible leakage.

Would the weight of the water block or pci cards be too much strain on the motherboard?

Just curious, and thanks for your help.

quite possible, infact many of the high end computer case manufacturers such and lian li and silverstone(just to name a couple) mount motherboards upside down so it resembles a BTX configuration, the only reason for issues arrising would be if you have a fanless motherboard with heatpipes, since they work on the principle that heat rises

Yes its possible to have your motherboard upside down if you wanted. They are just facing you like that so that you have easy access to the parts.

I'm not sure if I phrased my question properly. The motherboard would be mounted in a case like this:

But the motherboard would hang from the top of the case, instead of resting on the bottom.

yep, that'd be fine, as long as you dont have a 5lb cpu cooler (which would break your motherboard even if mounted properly.)

Great idea. I would suggest a brace on the middle screw, you could use like a wooden dowel or something.

As ^they said, it will be fine unless you are wusing a very large heatsink.

You cannot mount DVD/CD drives this way, and I doubt it would be a good idea to mount an HDD like that, but you mobo will be fine :).

I think I saw a HTPC case on NewEgg.com that mounts just like that. I forgot who made it though.
