Here is my mod using a cold cathode light set by akasa. I've been wanting to add a nice glowy light to the back of my monitor ever since i got an LCD, and last week I finally got around to thinking up a design. Here are the pics!

Here i filed a circular opening in a spare PCI plate to let a power cable poke out the back

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/4868/85776416dm7.jpg

Made a bracket assembly for the cathode, transformer and wires that will velcro to the monitor

Just a quick mock up

Extended, braided and removed passthrough molex on the power cable

Attached and coupling the DVI and power cables together

Up and running!

I noticed you wired up a new switch for those cold-cathodes that little black one is sad ain't it? . I bought a set of the blacklight one just like those and about shorted out my system. I flicked the switch and heard a buzzing. .and the system wouldn't turn back on. Just make sure those end caps on the light stay on tight thats what caused it. "O' how I love shipping damage" If I was you id double check and/or super glue the ends on.

Is it wired to be sound activated?

That would be a psychodellic experience.

Hi, no it's not sound activated, I designed it to make the screen softer on my eyes at night, works well. If it were sound activated im sure it'd be phycadelic for a few minutes but then im sure your retina's would burn out

Further proof that an effective mod doesn't have to break the wallet or take hours of complex work with expensive machinery to work. +Rep

Nice idea, I might do it as well, but maybe with chrismas leds, starting with those I already have.

I dont have recent pics of it, but here's a look of the desk

Dude, you just set off a new fad in the computer modding scene. Everyone is going to be doing this dude! Awesome I love it. (and I may be joining this train too hehe)

Dude +rep for an awesome Idea. Ive thought about something similar before after seeing those lcd tv's from toshiba or whoever it was with the mood setting lights on the sides but never actually did it. Awesome.

30 minutes? Took me like 10. But then again I used the stock switch and double-stick tape.

Nice, I'd do that but I keep my computer behind my monitor and with all the LED fans in it I get pretty much the same effect. Definitely a good idea, so as not to hurt you eyes. Although then again I ask why don't you just leave the lights in the room on if your up late.
