I shouldn't be allowed around this glue. I have some acrylic cement. I couldn't get the cap open. Even when in a vice, and with plyers, it wouldn't open. So the plastic safety cap had to be ripped off, and now I'm using just the metal piece that was underneath it. Then once I opened that, I breathed in a nice lung full of the vapors. So then I go to pour some of it into the little aplicator I have for it. It overflows the funnel, spills on the table, and completely covers me left hand. So I have to quickly move the pieces of acrylic out of the path of the flowing glue, and then go wash my hand. Then I put on a mask, go back into the room, and clean up the table. The thing is, it appears to be a chemical that only reacts with acrylic. It didn't harden on my hand, it didn't harden on the funnel, and didn't harden on th table. I wonder how much brain damage I've given myself though.

From reading that sounds to me like all is well. Brain Damage? Why even worry if it caused damage. . the damage is done no point it worrying about something you can't fix. . :) Just order a new brain.. LMAO

Your lucky I spilled some superglue into a Kleenex box one time a cause a chemical fire it was smokeing and I saw blue flames. . now that was crazy!
I walked into the room and my eyes were burning and smoke was coming off the box and i reached for it and got burned.

I wouldn't worry about the brain damage from a little glue. Remember there are idiots out there that inhale it intentionally.

One thing you should worry about is the drain you washed the glue on your hand down. Inless you used a water hose.

Calm down, just take it step by step. Im not sure if it is life threatening but i am going to say something stupid and obvious.

Drink lots of water and go to the doctor if needed.

Thats because it isn't glue, like superglue. It isn't a compound, but a chemical - methylene chloride. It breaks down the chemical structure of the acrylic and when it evaporates, it leaves the two pieces welded together.

Be very careful with that stuff. It's a carcinogenic and is known for a FACT to cause cancer. You do not want to breathe it in and you certainly don't want to get in on you. Next time wear gloves and a respirator to be safe. And whatever you do... DON'T get it in your eyes! It can and will make you go blind! Always wear chemical splash safety glasses!

I think this is good advice.

Good thing your hand isn't made out of acrylic!

On the other hand, don't loose any sleep over the brain damage you might have caused.
I don't think... it's... you know...

EDIT::

Oookkk... follow this guy's advice.
Disregard mine. :p :)

That's what I figured. I figured it was probably just a chemical that reacts with acrylic to fuse two pieces together. Well, I sure got a lot on me and breathed in enough to get cancer probably. You didn't have to tell me how it was going to kill me >_>

If I'm cutting acrylic, and the acrylic melts, and the room smells like super glue, how safe is it to breathe? I'm pretty much dead now, right?

<_<

Don't worry about it - a small amount of exposure isn't going to kill you. You'd be amazed at some of the guys in plastics shops... they toss that stuff around like its nothing, and work with it all day. Don't fret too much.

Yeah, the acrylic does give off a smell when it's cut. I personally love it, but others tell me its horrible. Maybe I just love plastic a bit too much. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just try not to breathe it in directly and if you're worried then a nice dual cartridge respirator is never a bad idea.

I enjoy smells like that, gasoline and such. I just don't want it to hurt me. Speaking of being careless with chemicals, my brother used to stick his hand in acetone for like a second to clean it off when he worked in a machine shop.

Lol - thats probably dangerous, but I doubt its horrible. I had a dermatologist clean my face with acetone once!

acetone is alright to get on you, although you may not want to leave it too long. its an awesome organic solvent. used to be used to clean glassware in labs for the longest time... im still not 100% clear why they stopped. bottom line, dont worry about acetone.
