Ok,... I got my Criticool Waterplant reservoir. It's very cool looking, no doubt. I definately have plans for it. It comes with 4 ports, 2 of which I dont need,... but do:) There are 2 of which I don't need for circulation but I do need for my temperature probe and the othr I am going to use for an UV LED. The reservoir came with 3 1/2 OD fittings and 2 end caps to block off the 2 extra ports if not needed. Well,... the 2 end caps are actually perfect for the insertion of a dallas 1-wire temperarute probe and a 5mm LED! It's goign to lok so pro when it done. Here are some pictures of the reservoir,...

I went to Home Depot and bought alot of stuff needed for my project. I got a huge 3/4" x 4' x 8' partical board that I had then cut in half for me. I am going to use that for my work surface. I also got sheet metal that I will use for the radiator shroud and for covering up the mobo and the back of my drives. I got 1/4" acrylic for my windows too. I had or am having some trouble with getting clamps for my hoses. I found the clamps that have a small screw at the top but the rings are to small for the hoses. I want the small screws instead of the big ones. I found these 2 clamps at Home Depot that have the small screw with a big enough ring but thats all they had. I only found 3 at Loews. They said they dont know where I got them from, they can't find them. So,... I have 5 and need like 11 more:( Anyways,... I installed the blocks and the hoses to connect the three blocks to see how they would fit and to see how much room they would take up. They take up more room then I thought. I have a find another place to put my reservoir because of it. Not a problem though. Here are some pictures,...

I sandwiched the panel between some 2 x 8's to and some long clamps to get it to stand striaght up and to cut down on vibration while filing.

Hobbes,... I have the 1/4" bit too. The collar on the bit is to low from the the bit cuts. So, if I was to run the collar along the edge of the acrylic I'm cutting(which is actually what I want), it wont round the edge enough. I need to lower the bit a little more to get a good round edge but if I do that the collar wont be touching the edge of the acrylic I am cutting. Thats why I had ran the collar along the other window. Now,... because I had to run the collar on the other window I needed a small space between the two windows so that the bit didnt cut the window that the collar is running along. I got some 1/8", I'm just going ot use that instead. I think it will be better anyways.

Some progress!!! Thank you god!!! I finished the windows!!! But,... a problem with the tint arose. There are alot fo bubbles around the edges. It's from the acrylic being so flexible. What is happening is that the acrylic is bowing out where the bolts are holding to the windows up to the side panel. I tried loosening them a bit but no cigar. What I am going to do is buy some of the adhesive tint. That should solve my problem easily. Here are some pictures,...

With a little uv something inside. The uv stuff will be much brighter once I have all 100 uv LEDs installed. Right now I am using two little uv flashlights. the overall look of it though will be dimmed like this though. This is exactly what I want. It's so HOT!

Ok! NOW I FINISHED THE WINDOWS!!! I went back to my acrylic shop, E&T Plastics and bought see through smoke colored acrylic, basically,... tinted acrylic. It cost me $56 for a 4' x 8' sheet. I just got done a bit ago with them. They are flawless! No deformities what so ever! No bubbles and there never will be! I love this stuff! I am going to use some more of it to make my radiator housing so that it matches the case. I still have the UV green acrylic too that I am going to use. Here are some pictures,...

Now check this out,... I was throwing around the idea of making the edges of all my side panels look like whats in the picture. They would all be jagged, serrated, and aluminum looking as in the picture except the edges for the side panels will be saned reall nice too. what do you think? Should I just leave the edges alone? I like it. I think it will clash nice with all the aluminum bolts that are holding up the windows.

You probably already know how I do it just from looking at these pics. Now,... these vise are somewhat,... crappy. They are ok but the pipe vise on these vises are crooked. I tried filing them straight but they are just way to crooked. Maybe I should of spent the extra $30 each and got the best model they had,......... NAH. So, instead of using the pipe vise portion of the vises,... I just rest the pipes where you see them now. They line up straight when clamped and I cant complain about that.

See the bend line,... the bend starts right after that line! Not a 16th or an 8th before and after, RIGHT AFTER.

So far it works very well. There is one thing I have to take care of and that would be to add a stopper or something to keep the work under the pipe from moving back while pulling forward to make the bend. No biggie. Tell me what you think.

I have 3 sheets total that can be used to make these housing shells. I am making these shells slightly smaller then the side panels so that I can sand down the side panels flush with the shell. I think I will bend all 3 of them and then pick out the 2 best shells. This shell is about 97% accurate. While bending,... one side of each bend was slightly off. I dont know why. I had to pound those sides into shape. I am thinking that maybe it my bending pipes. I am going to get new ones before I start the other 2 shells. Anyways,... it's all good!

The second shell is I think slightly larger, I think. The shells have no form so it hard to tell. But I do know there is a slight difference bewteen the two. Thats ok though seeing that I am not trying to split hairs here. The one thing that I might have to do is make new sie panels for these shells. I should of made the shells first and then made the side panels after. It would of been easier that way plus the side panels could be filed down to fit the shells perfectly. I think the side panels I have now are a tiny bit to small. Like I said before I think. Its hard to tell but I am pushing more towards YES, they are a bit to small. I have to make a third shell now. I want to see how that one comes out. The second shell was alot easier to make this time. I didnt have any problems with any sides of the bends having a slight bow to them. So I think the second one is more accurate, I think. Once I have the third made I will choose from the three the two I will use.

I have to drill out the bolt holes a bit so I can adjust the brackets just a bit to relieve the shell. Just a bit though, the shell has to be forced into this position because right now it's slightly bowed from bending. My brackets are off by a hair. In the morning when I get home from work I will fix that and start the other panel. So far so good.

I ordered some more uv red sleeving today and instead I got red sleeving. Now,... the thing is that the last order of uv red I got this other stuff that looks very orange. I know that uv red is a cross between orange and red but this stuf looks orange to me. What do you guyz think? I am goign to to send back all of it and they will send back 40' of UV RED.

After I got the fans installed I wasnt able to do anymore work on the project so thats why there are no project pics. Tomorrow morning I will start on grinding away the side panels and even cut out the windows for those side panels. Anyways,... till then. OH check this out,... my gurl said something funny the other day. She is looking to get a desk for herself. Now we live together in her parents housse. Space is very limited. Out of frustration she asked me "why do we have to have two computers?". LOL!!! I was like,... "what are you asking me? I dont understand your question?" She's like "why can't we just have one computer and just share.". I was like "WHA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!" Geeez,... I dont feel like I got anything done today. I woke up kinda late, 10am, an then I had to run some errands but still,... I got several hours in and I was only able to grind down the side panels for one housing. I still haev to hand file that housing to its finish for sanding. I originally was goign to use a hand grinder for the whole thing until I realized that it would take foooooor everrrrr. So I broke out the jig saw and started cutting off as much as possible and then grinding the rest. Well,... tomorrow moring I am goign to start the other housing and hopefully I will get the hand file some. Here are the daily pics,...

I did some coarse buffing to get out some of the tool marks but I have some more to go. Once I am done with the coarse buffing I will cut out the windows for each housing.

I found these copper elbows at Home Depot. I am going to use these to connect the rads together inside the enclosure.

The one side of the elbow will slide right into the rads. The other side is stretched so the 1/2 barb won't fit very well. It'll be very loose. So, I will screw/ solder this other piece in the photo, into the elbow and then the 1/2 barb will screw right into that. I will probably solder the barb too. Dont want to take any chances.

Ok,... have some pics for you guyz. I'm not done with today, I'm just on break:) I even made a video of me bending a corner. I thought you guyz would want to see how I do it through video.

Here I marked two lines on both sides of the sheet that run the length of it. The outer most lines are where the bolts are going to be. The inner most is the cutout lines for the rads. I did this to assure that when I go to cut and drill later that everything will be straight and EVEN.

As you can see the rad overlaps the two inner lines, this is good seeing that you won't see the edge of the rads on the other side. You have to be careful not to cover up to much of the rads seeing that it will restrict air flow.

Here I marked my first bend and clamped what is now angled steelto the sheet. Last time I used 1/8" aluminum and they bent a bit. This time I dont have to worry about that. I used larger clamps too.

What do you guyz think about the lower profile or height? I cut the height down by an inch. I made that last two 4.5" for a reason. The reason being to help rid of the fans center dead spot. The extra room between the rads and the fans allowed for a little bit of turbulance(sp?) to help get air to the entire rad surface. But I didnt think it would be all that noticeable if I knocked out an inch. There about a half inch bewteen the fans now. Let me know what you think. This is probably it for the day seeing I have to go get my gurl from work now and then I will probably spend some time with her. So tomorrow morning this will continue. Till then,... night.

I used this blade to line up the brackets on the scored lines. Notice one side is flat and the other side is sharpened. This is to make sure the brackets are right over the line:)

Remember this? You see how I cut the ends of the shell? I cut everything away except for the tabs for the bolts. I didnt want to do that this time. I just wanted a nice flat edged panel. Well,... I did that for a reason.

First panel filed down to size. Funny thing is that I thought my notches were cut perfectly and my panels were cut and filed perfectly but when I went to slide it into place it was off. The only thing that was dead on was the width of the panel. The one side of the case fits the panel pretty damn good though. I just thought that it wouldnt matter what side the panel was on. Dont know whats off. Weird. It might be a little bit of both adding up to a total off, you know? Good enough though:)

Now,... the pics that are missing are the pics of my efforts to install some plumbing. You know, connect the rads together and shorten the height of the barbs. Well,... I came across some problems. This is all new to me now seeing that everything up to this point I had already done with the last two enclosures. Anyways,... problem number one is,... I'm having trouble connecting the rads together. I originally was going to to use some elbows, solder the barbs to those and then use a small piece of hose. Well,... that is CLEARLY not going to work seeing that the ports of the rads are way to close. I then went back to home depot and got some 45 degree elbows,... once again, wont work. They are to close. So,... I then decided to just solder the barbs straight up and down as far in the ports as possible and then just run some hose in a bend to each barb. Well,... the height of the enclosurewont really allow that. I wish I had the pics damn it. Some options,... use the 90 degree elbows with a copper pipe connecting them instead of the barbs and hose. This would be the most easiest method but it would make the rads permenant. But its not like I would be removing all that much anyways. I could also,... cut to extra holes in the tube panel and run a loop outside the enclosure that would connect the rads together. Not really liking this method. I could also try and maybe bend my own elbows some how,... there really isnt all that much room at all. Crap. Second problem,... the tube panel, the width is kind of less then the total width of the barbs. So that would mean if the I/O hoses were to run straight up and down through the tube panel,... I would have to cut out holes on the edges of the panel. If I move the holes inward towards the middle of the panel I would have to bend the hoses over a bit to meet the holes. Now keep in mind the barbs are pretty close to the panels so the hose would be torquing the panels a bit. I'm going to have to think something up here. I am goign to post the pics first thing in the morning.

Now,... because none of the sides of these two pieces have a straight edge to work off of,... I have to make one. So,... I will tape these two rulers together to make a guide. One ruler will be the guide and the other will be a spacer to keep the router bit from cutting up the guide ruler.

Here you can see how this is goign to work. You can see the cutting portion of the bit touching th eacrylic but no thte guide. Once the bit cuts thrugh the scrylic the collar, the bearing at the very top of the the router bit, will meet up and touch the ruler guide. The guide will keep the bit from cutting any deeper. The bit will roll off the guide cutting a perfecly straight line.

I put more tape on the acrylic and used a right angle post level to do this.

The clear acrylic you see there has a router cut corner I made when I made my case windows. I used the post level to line the clear acrylic with the rounded corner up with the new acrylic.

After the cut. I did the same thing with this corner that I did to make the straight edges, that is using the rulers as a guide. This time I used and old piece of acrylic as the guide. ONe problem though,... you see the hard edge just before the the round corner starts? Thats because the guide was up to lcose the the eadge of the smoke acrylic. The collar on the3 router bit has a slightly larger diameter the the cutting portion so everything you cut using the collar will be a tad bit larger. In this case the rounded corner isnt completely round. Theres a way to fix this,... check out the next couple of pics.

I added these two pieces of card board, which are very thin because thats all you need, to push the guide back a bit.

When I put a straight edge up to the edge you can see the gap. It's very small but its enough to make a perfectly round edge.

After the gap was added. Some advice that I will give you is if you can't get your rounded corner perfect with the first couple of passes with the router and its only slightly off,... break out the sand paper and sand it round. That would be safer then trying to get it perfect by making slight adjustments to the guide and sending it through the router several times. Theres a good chance you will screw it up before you get it right.

Here is my acrylic bending jig. It is flawless. I cant wait to use it. It is pretty obvious how it works.

The most important part is that you calibrate it so that the pipe is perpendicular with the boards. I used the router on the inside of the board so I know they are straight. All you have to do is figure out wher eyou want to bend the acrylic and then slide it in there and up against one of the boards so you know the acrylic isnt crooked over the pipe. Clamp the acrylic down and begin bending:) Sweet isnt it? HA HA!!! You can use diffent size pipes depending on how round you want your corners. Just make sure the pipe isnt crooked:) Peace out people. I'm going to bed. The gym has me whipped:( Night.

Ok,... before I go ahead and post the pics here,... I would just like to bring something to Gruntman's attention. I have been meaning to bring this up before never did. I wrote up a huge post with all the pics several hours ago. It took me a good 45 minutes or more. When I went to submit it the site logged me out and asked for me to log in. When I did that I lost my entire post:( I know with some forums once you log back in it will submit your post so that this doesnt happen. Just thought I would let you know even though you probably already know seeing that your the Gruntman. Anyways, seeing that my patience has worn thin I am going to make it short,...

Some sheet metal I bent to use for bending the acrylic. I actually bent two, one being over a larger pipe. I used the two to sandwich the acrylic into its bent form. I did this to keep the corners of the bend from curling up.

The acrylic after being bent. It came out great. Still though, there was a gap between the acrylic bend and the shell bend when the acrylic was placed on top of the shell. I ended up scratching the crap out of the acrylic trying to fix it.

This is what I am doing now instead of bending caps for the case and enclosure. I am making front panels. I am rounding the edges of all the acrylic so that they dont look so hard looking when bolted to the case and enclosure. Check out how flawless this front panel is! See the corner shot! PERFECT! I did this using the ruler-ruler method. The router fence was crap and didnt work at all:( I did it this way because the results are sweet!

I made my own router fence using some strip steel. I thought it ouwld work good but it didnt. The rounded edges that it produced looks like crap. The original router fence was even worse. Look how crappy.

Here is my very first attempt at flame polishing. It was easy! I am going to flame polish all my edges now! I used a propane torch. When you do it you have to make sure that your project doesnt bow because of the heat. If it does flatten it out before it cools.

Can you tell what the ruler-ruler method is or if you already have what page it is on?

The ruler-ruler method is simple. It's two rulers taped to each other. One ruler acts as a spacer and the other is a straight edge. What you do is mark your acrylic where you want to cut. You take the ruler-ruler and tape it to your acrylic so that the straight edge is right above the line you want ot cut too. You then take the acrylic with the ruler-ruler still stuck to it and send it through the router. The collar on the router bit will run along the straight edge ruler making a perfect straight cut. You have to make sure that the ruler is exactly wher you want it on the acrylic before you cut. You also have to make sure that you dont move it. I use a, I forgot what is called, but its a right angle thing. I used the body of this tool to line up the ruler-ruler. I acheive the rounded/ knifed edge,... I use a thicker ruler as the spacer. Heres the ruler-ruler I am using now,...

Today I will be cutting the posts that will hold this thing up off the case. The same posts are going to hold the canopy up. I dont think they will be hard to make but you never know. Oh, I rounded all the acrylic edges for the enclosure. I still have to do the case windows too, and any other parts I should make.

Ok,... here is my update for the day)

This is how I got the aluminum tube to spin with the drill so I could clean and polish it as if it was on a lathe:) I pushed in the aluminum with a small hammer where the drill bits groove are. Worked great:)

This is how I cut the tube up. I used this old mitre saw. This thing is nice. Nowadays they make cheap ones:( It did a great job but it left little lips on the ends that I had to do my best to get off without ruining the 90 degree ends or taking more off the height.

Heres the front panel for the enclosure. See the bubbles on the edge? I couldnt keep that from happening. It's something in the plastic. I tried agaijn with the clear acrylic and it was easy! Sucks:(

Ok,... today I finished cutting all the acrylic, well atleast the acrylic needed to get this thing together. I rounded the case windows too. I also polished the other aluminum tube too. I want to use a pipe cutter to cut them this time. I can polish the marks from the pipe cutter away after they are all cut. Here are some pics,... OH, boddaker, I did what you did! I used the drill and the bench vise as a lathe. I had my gurl operate the drill. I took a round piece of steel and tapered the end and put that in the vise. I spun the tube on that and it worked great. The pics,...

First, I want to thank Draeth for nudging me to use the pipe cutter:) I'm pretty sure by that you know whats going to be posted within the reply here. I went ahead and cut new posts using the pipe cutter and it came out perfect! PERFECT! Look,...

Here Im reaming out 1 of the 22 already cut posts. I cut 2 extra just in case. The pipe cutter leaves alot of burr on the inside the the tubes once cut. Here I'm drilling it out.

Here I have a larger drill bit that I'm goign to use to taper the inside edge of the the tubes. This is to remove any burr on the edge or even the outer surface so that the tubes sit flat on a surface.

Here I have the fans with their grills installed. I also have the side panels and the front panel installed. I there are only 8 posts holding up the enclosure. This is so that I can get out the bottom fan panels without having to remove the entire enclosure.

Here's what I thgouth was done. I have to change some things. I have to lower the height of the canopy. Also,... because the height of the canopy was so high I couldnt use the bolts I was using thoughout the project seeing that they didnt come long enough for it. So I started using dome nuts which I like but dont. Once I lower the canopy I am going back to the old screws. The dome nuts stick out to much.

Now, another problem I have is that I don tnow how I will bolt the bottom fans panels up. Once this thing is all together,... how do I get the nuts inside the enclosure and get them on the bolts that will hold the fan panels up. I can't believe I missed this. Any ideas? I have to cut the tube panels tomorrow too. If cutting the canopy posts doesn't take to long, which I dont think it will. I might be abel to work on the case mounting this thing to it for good:) I hope. But it's pretty much done so I am happy:) Let me know that you think of it:)

The enclosure when mounted will be about 1/4" lower or closer to the case. Right now it's sitting the the washers and the heads of the bolts. I went ahead and drilled the tube panel as you see in the picture. I will evenually make a Uv green panel to cover the tube panel. Well,... the UV green panel will be big enough to just cover the holes. It's not like my intention is the cover the entire tube panel. Rule is that where there is something passing through something,... there has to be a UV green panel there. It's to basically make it look nice. In the pictures you dont see the tube panel posts. I left them out seeing that the tube panel wasnt ready to be mounted. Tomorrow if I have time I will mount the enclosure and drill out the top of the case for the tube to pass through. The two smaller holes i said before is for chrome shower hose. Well,... I hope tomorrow I can mount it, Im eager. I haev to escort mom to this awards dinner thingy plus I'm going out with a friend to look at his friends bike. Hes selling it to me CHEAP! So cheap. I love it. SO I might be rolling home with a bike in the next few days. Maybe. I'll take pics If I do. Night people. Oh did I mention I got into a car accident today? @#$%&! It's all good though. Looking good? See where the tubes come out of the enclosure and go into the case,... I am going to to cut UV green panels and then bolt them over the are where the tubes come out and go in to dress it up to make it look nice. It's not bolted down yet because I have to do some more planning first. I had to cut away some the the mobo tray whic is no biggie. I just have to clean it up a bit. I am hoping to do some more work on wednesday morning.

Here I marked where I am going cut. I want to cut out everything inside the tape there. You can't really see the line where I am going to cut becaus the tape is very close to it.

Here's the line in which I will cut. I scoured that line into the anodize with a scalpel so I wouldn't lose the line. I prefer marking this way. I did this when cutting out the windows for the cases side panels.

As you see here there is a board clamped to the front of the case where I plan on jig sawing. I did this because if I didnt the blade would move to far inside the case and jab whatever is in it's way. I had to make sure the blade didnt come out of the either because to would end up jabbing the front of the case possibly shattering the blade taking one of my eyes out leaving it just hanging there while blood spews out all over the place making a mess of everything. Blood everywhere. The moral of all that,... where your googles.

After reuniting my eye with it's socket I finished the cut. Very close to the line. Minimal filing needed.

Notice how the edges are the same all the way around. Originally,... the drive bay opening before the cut had nice smooth edges. I cut the smooth edges off just so that the edges were identical all the way around. I didnt want smooth edges up top and jagged down below. I thought it would look sloppy. This looks alot nicer.

Another update! YEA! A small but interesting,...

OH,... before I start, I had found out the the rear front panel has to be two pieces. I can't slide one whole big piece inside the front area of the case. These support brackets are in the way. I could remove the rivets holding the bracket and then slide it in but I wouldn't be able to get new rivets back in because of the order the case was put together. SOOOOO,... I will have to make two smaller panels. No biggie. Anyways,... before I make those rear front panels I decided that should mount all the hardware first so I am sure of where everything is going to be. So,....

... I started making the LCD bracket out of this piece of scrap.

Here you can see the bracket was cut to size and I cut the first set to bolt grovves. These grooves are for the bolts that will hold the bracket to the case. I made grooves so I could slide the bracket up and down for adjustability.

See how it's going to look,... I'm going to cut another groove for the LCD so it can be bolted to the bracket. I'll be able to slide the LCD up and down on the bracket too. With both grooves, that is the case and LCD gooves,... I should be able to move the LCD up and down about 1.5 - 2 inches total. Why? I don't know:) It's cool:) Well,... so I can have some adjustability.

Hey everyone! Welcome to the T.O. show! Here's an UPDATE for all you folks out there! I finished fabricating the bracket for the LCD screen. Although it's still not done,... due to the fact that I have to drill holes for wires and I still have to clear coat it. But the functionality portion of it is done. I have to say it looks quite professional:) Check it out,...

Here's the bracket pretty much done. As I said before, I still have some holes to drill for the LCD wires and I have to clear coat it. Same dust finish as the RAD enclosure.

I needed spacers so I could mount the LCD off the bracket so that LCD wasn't touching the bracket. So I cut up these wire butts (I think thats what they are called) and used them. They worked great until I realized that I needed more of them because I needed the LCD to stand off the bracket more then it was with just the four of them.

I didn't have anymore wire butts so I decided to go to home depot to get more. I needed longer 4-40 bolts anyways. When I got there and got my bolts I saw these! How perfect! White nylon spacers:) They were like 33 cents for two of each size. Well worth the price, I think.

I hade to drill larger holes through the LCD screen tabs for the 4-40 bolts. Oh how careful I had to be!

Here you can see the nylon spacers. I was going to put 4 half inch spacers between the bracket and the LCD board as oppose to what you see in the picture but I thought this made more sence to me. Even though this LCD doesn't really need to be cooled I thought I would do it this way so that air could move in between the screen and the board anyways:) It looks cool. Also,... I used some washers, the smooth side against the bracket to help the LCD slide up and down the bracket for easy adjusting.

Here's approximately where I was going to cut. I was just kind of getting an idea of what I was going to do. All the holes in that panel was really throwing me off. I wanted to cut it so that even though it would be covered by a VFD bezel it would would look like a nice cut. You know what mean? Of coarse you do:)

Mounted! That is so HOT! You'll be able to read it right through the side panel! I am going to make a bezel that will cover that whole side of the 5.25 bay. The all the buttons for that VFD will be mounted below it on the bezel. You will only be able to use the buttons with the side panel off! Cool isn't?? :D :D :D I'm not even going to do it. Don't worry.

Yet another update,......................... :lol:. So I did some more work today. Today was a good day. I am very impressed with what I had accomplished. I knew exactly what I wanted, so I set forth and made it. Behold,.................................. the pictures!

My gurlfriends father got a piece of "I" frame. Where? I don't know. I used it though, to bend my aluminum. It worked great!

With propane torch and a good size hammer I began to tap the edge of the aluminum into it's new right angle. You have to bedn this stuff slowly working your way from one side to the other and back until you got your bend. You dont really want to whack the crap out of it in a hurry. You got to treat it like a women,... you have to be slooooow and gentle 8).

I just didnt want a panel for the VFD. I wanted it to have it's own little enclosure. Once I wire up the buttons for it there will be alot of wires and stuff. This bezel will hide all that.

This is going to be where all my lighting circuitry and stuff is going to be. I am goign to be running several LED lines out from that thing. You see the 1" side of the cover,... I am going to mount several power jacks off that side. All the LED lines that will be running throughout the computer will get plugged into the cover. I think that it going to look cool as hell to see several UV green lines plugged into the cover from almost top to bottom! Again,... the one idea I had for this computer was that there would be alot fo lines and stuff everywhere, somewhat cluttered. It's going ot be a good clutter though. Originally I was going to make a box for the LEDs to be run from but after making the VFD bezel it made perfect sense to do it this way. So much better. I am going to line the inside with foam pad for insulation so I dont short anything out.

EDIT: LED wires are actually goingto be RED, which is even better:)

LOL. Thanks bro. It's going ot look HOT. I think that UV through the tinted acrylic looks better in my opinion. The tint takes away alot of the glare and some of the purple so everything looks like it is bright and glowing but not really. LOL. I can't explain it.

Thanks guyz! Yes,... I posted like 60 something replies within an hour or two. I did it at work. I was bored at the moment. FRAKK,... I did it in series because, I don't reall know why, LOL. It was the first setup that came to mind. I know I had talked about it with other in the past and we all came to the conclusion that with the fans I have and the two rads,... it wouldnt make that much of a difference. OH,... I remember one reason. The reason was to run two pumps in one loop. I wanted to try out a push and pull method of moving the water. Changing the setup from series to paralelle is easy so I do decide to change it later on it would be easy. But for now I want to try the push and pull method. Thanks for the bike commetns too:) I love that bike. Got it mad cheap! Thats why I got it. I'm going to virginia to the virginia international raceway to race it with my friend. My gurl is going to take mad photos and video. I'm goignt o post all of them online for anyone who is interested. As for this computer,... it is so not done. I have so much more stuff that has to be done. I have some cool stuff planned. Check back. Before my mother got into her bike accident I would work on this computer everyday. I have only been woking on it here and there, maybe 2 a week at the most. She will be coming home soon in a couple of days so I will be able to work on it alot posting my progress almost everyday. This worklog here like I said before only consists of posts that contain pictures. Over at GV,... my worklog is like 35 pages long, LOL. Peace.

i dont think you would see any difference with rads this size anyway, and the push-pull pump setup is a good idea too. in parallel the heat dissipation would be more even, now the first rad will be always hotter than the second but i guess it really doesnt matter. i really wanna see a nice venice overclock on this cooling :D threads at gruntville get out of hand way too fast and i just thank god its not like that over here. participating in the forums would be a full time job :D

Ok,... push and pull. When a pump sucks in water it's pulling and when it shoots it out it's pushing. Say you have a cooling loop consisting of a CPU, NB, GFX, RAD, RES, PUMP. The pump would have to PUSH water through all that stuff. Water pressure drops each time it passes through a cooling component. So b y time the water comes around to the pump again there isnt as much water for the pump to pull or suck in. Example,...

PUMP(pressure=100%)> RAD(pressure=85%)> CPU(pressure=60%)> NB(pressure=45%)> GFX(pressure=32%)> RES(pressure=25%)>

Now the percentages aren't accurate. It's only for an example so that you get the idea. Now,... say you had a second pump half way in the loop,...

PUMP> RAD> CPU> PUMP> NB> GFX> RES>

This means that each pump would only have to push water through through about half the stuff in the loop. The pumps would be PUSHING and PULLING to each other. This would allow for a nice steady pressure throughout the loop. It doesn't matter how fast the water moves through the loop. As long as you have pressure. So,...

PUMP(pressure=100%)> RAD(pressure=95%)> CPU(pressure=90%)> PUMP(pressure=95%)> NB(pressure=87%)> GFX(pressure=80%)> RES(pressure=75%)>

Again, numbers aren't accurate. Bu you get the idea. If there is not enough water making it to the pump you will have pump noise. The noise is the vapor buubles that are created from the vaccum. I have only heard one stoy of this. The guy fixed this problem by putting the RES right before the pump. Hope that explains. Bye!

You got it. It's going to be a second monitor basically. I have to make a CSYNC circuit because my video card doesn't support it. Most ATI cards do but most nVidias don't. Csync is HSYNC and VSYNC bunched into one signal that this LCD reads. Very easy circuit to make.

Small update. I only got like an hour or so of work done today. I was tired, it was hot,... just wasn't really in the mood.

Ok,... here I am trying to cover up where I F@#%ed up. I wasn't thinking. Very stupid mistake. Oh well it happens. It's a nice cover up though. I had plans to do this anyways so it all worked out. I'm goign to cut grooves here. You can see how I center punched several time to drill down the lines.

All done. I filed out the grooves nice and smooth. When the time comes I will put some UV green behind the grooves and then lite it up. Should look cool. I will most like cut some more or just drill some holes to give a futuristic look to it.

Update,... another small one. It's like I spent only an hour today either. This intricate work is time consuming! Lordy. Mr. Boddaker,... I have a dremel, why I didn't use it to make the grooves? There's a logical reason actually, it's,... I don't know. LOL. Seriously,... I don't know why I didn't use it to just cut the grooves. Well,... The short grooves couldn't be cut with the dremel. The diameter of the cutting disc is too large. By time the disc cuts through the aluminum, the groove would be to long. I for whatever reason found that drilling was easier? I dont know. I will most likely cut some more larger grooves. I will make sure that I use the dremel to cut them to see if it is easier,... which it most likely will be. Anyways,... moving on. I want you guyz to tell me what you think of this,... I like it. But it needs some more work. Both the panels I have been cutting the past two days are not done just to let you guyz know.

I'm cutting some more smaller grooves here in the other LED panel. This time I thought I would cut more then the other side to mix it up a bit.

Now,... seeing that the other side has the VFD. I thought I would somewhat even things out by adding a cool kind of window thing here on the other side. It's not really a window but is? You know? I mean it's not even centered with teh panel or sized evenly. It's like a window panel thing kinda like the ones in the Cube. you know the movie? Theres going to be a UV green panel behind it just like the grooves and whatever I cut into the panels. I think it looks nice. I have to even out the look though. I have to add some more triangles to the panels, maybe even some circles to smooth out all the hard square edges. I want it to look futuristic with looking to corny. Here I scrathed out the window and center punched.

I really dont want to compete with anyone although a little bit a competition wouldnt hurt anyone. crimsonsky is good and I can only hope that one day I will be pumping out projects similar to his. Here you have two pieces of aluminum that had one edge each filed straight. They were filed separately. Notice how flush they are when brought together? Isn't that cool?

Ok,... today I figure something out that I have been ponder about for some time. I show you what I am talking about in a minute. I got 25 new pictures!!! I can't believe how far I have come with this project! Sadly I am almost done:( Almost:) I still have alot to do but from what I started with I feel like I am almost done. Anyways,... to the pics!


I have the sides case taped off here because I am getting ready to drill the mounting holes. Notice how this portion of the case has a ton of holes already there. If my marks dont land directly in the center of one of the holes that are already there this could be a problem when drilling. When I go to drill the drill bit is going to slide into the the hole instead of drilling where I want it to drill.

As you can see the marks are offset from the holes that are already there. I need a way to keep the drill bit on the mark as oppose to jumping into the holes.

This is what I came up with. I took a scrap piece of aluminum and drilled a hole using the very drill bit I will be using to drill the holes in there case. I clamp the scrap piece to the case so that the hole is directly over the mark. Then I drill. The scrap piece will keep the drill bit from jumping into the hole.

Heres one that looks neat. The mark was pretty much in one of the holes that was already there but slightly off.

Here another that doesnt look so good. That thats because the mark was directly in the center and when I drill though it cut away most the the metal around the hole. I ended up removing the remaining metal around the holes because it was thin and pointless.

Here I am making the very front panel out of the tinted acrylic. I have already at this point drilled the mounting holes in the aluminum front panels. I didnt take pictures because I forgot too! I'm only human!!! Anyways,... I am using the smae method I used to cut all of the other acrylic. It works so well. It only took me 10 minutes to cut this thing!

Now,... this is what I was pondering for the longest time. I wanted to know how I would cut out the openings for the optical drives, the LCD, and possibly some switches and other stuff. I figured this out when I found out that I needed to cut a little notch out for the front USBs, audio jacks, whatever. Basically,... I wanted rounded corners. So, I cut this ruler up along with a strip of aluminum. The rulers are the fences and the two plain strips are the spacers. The pictures will tell all,...

Thats a good days work. Now,... It's almost time for the UV green. I am going to make smaller UV panels that will go ontop of the tinted acrylic in front of each optical drive, the LCD, and the switches. I was thinking that instead of putting the UV panels ontop of the tinted panel that I would put them behind it inbetween the aluminum and the tinted. I think that would look hot! I would need some way of fastening them though. I could either glue them to the tinted panel and how the glue does distort the look to much. I dont think you will be able to see the glued areas all the much seeing that its kinda dark. But you might when the UV is lit up. Or I could use the tiny bolts I got already that I plan on using to hold the UV panels up ontop of the tinted panel. It would be the same except the UV panels would be behind the tinted. So from the very front you would see the tinted panels and the larger bolts on the side holding up the tinted panel and the smaller bolts more in the middle of the tinted panel holding up the UV panels behind the tinted panel. Got me? Let me know what you think about that. BYE!

So today I accomplished nothing! This is because I made a stupid mistake that cost me the tinted front panel. This means that I have to make a new one. This isnt really bad seeing that it really took me no time at all to make it. It's just that I could be doing something else as oppose to working on something that SHOULD be finished. Anyways,... I messed up when I went to cut ou tthe hole for the LCD. The width of the hole was to big. I was suppose to subtract these two values from the width of the optical drive trays but ended up only subtracting the one value. STUUUUUUUUUPID! Thats ok,... because just like the readiator housing,... the new panel will be better even though the panel came out pretty damn good despite the goof! I made a video too! I made a video of my drilling through the tinted acrylic! Exciting isnt it! The point of the video is to show you how a correctly ground drill bit cuts through acrylic. Enjoy.

Here I am marking where the trays will be coming through the tinted panel. I am not relying solely on the trays shadows. I messured where the trays are in comparison to the surface of the table. Im ussing the shadows to check the messurements. It was dead on.

This is a correctly ground drill bit to be used to drill through acrylic. Notice the point. The point will keep the the drill bit from running around of the surface of the acrylic. Notice the flatsided cutting edge. This is so that the bit scrapes to cut and doesnt gouge.

Here's a video of my using this bit. Try this with a regular drill bit and you'll see what I mean. Notcie how fast I drill though without breaking the acrylic. I don't reccomend drilling that fast to finished holes. You want to go somewaht slow for a finished hole.

Yup. They are covered. I am most likely going to wire up new buttons and put them below the drives somewhere within the free space below. I might move the audio out jacks and the volume wheels too.

Thanks! I 60$ for the tinted, thats a 4' x 8' sheet and I paid 100 for the 4' x 8' sheet of UV green. Sorry about the pricing down by you. That sucks. You tried going to a scrap metal yard for metal? I got hude sheets of aluminum for a couple of bucks!

Thats true,... but how often do you actually use that emergency release? I never had to use it. I figured that if I ever had to use it, removing 4 little screws wouldnt bother me all that much. Gotta tell you i look all over the net at case mods and i must say you hit top3 on my list( i cant choose which i like best between my top 3). But anyways you do some high quality work and i cant believe you dont have much experience in the areas you're modding such as metal and acrylic work.

Where do you get your acrylic cuz a 4 x 8 sheet of the tinted acrylic at the place that i just bought some from, it was 150$ and i believe you said you got it for 60$ could be mistaken though.

Also I know i saw the bit you used in these pictures for the router but for the life of me i cant find it again. Me and my dad are building a computer desk for me (huge its the main feature of my room) and the top is acrylic and were hacing trouble cutting it so i was curious what type of bit you used to do you're nice cuts.

Hey, Thanks for the compliments and dont worry about the spelling, I mistype all the time. I did get the tinted acylic for $60. I got it at this place called E&T plastics in mount laurel new jersey. Look up E7T plastics online, they have a site. The two bits I use for the router is a rounded bit and a straight edge bit. Both are carbide bits. That is a must. Even though its plastic,... it dulls regualr bits fast! I got them from a home depot. You can get them at a lowes or some equivalent. Get one with a ball bearing collar and use it! It works great! Setup a straight edge as I did in my work log and just run the bit down it. Work everytime! Oh,... if you do it with the rulers,... dont use painted ruller as the paint comes off on the router bit and the surface of the ruler becomes even and rough.

We allready did test cuts and i feel it was rather amazing. i might use rulers when it comes time for my case mod(but right now the table is about 2 feet and maye a lil larger and its a corner desk so in all its 4 feet wide and 8 feet long which means were doing fencing) . i actually just recieved the styrene plastic im going to be giving a try. lots of curves on my pc mod minimal acrylic use if any. But anyways thanks, and i hope you dont mind but i might come back to you for a lil more help later.

You do that I dont mind helping. Becarful with fencing,... I had no luck with it. I think it's my router table that gave me the trouble. I couldnt cut straight perfect lines with it. Thats why I went with the ruler method. Anyways, good luck with it.

This is how they work. Esy. I stagger the foam and the plates like this to keep the panel vertical. I do this because the old face panel is roundand the new panel tilts on it.

Also,... check this out. I rounded the edges a bit with a razor blade. I scraped the edges round I didnt cut them. When cutting acrylic, your not really "cutting" or you don't want to "cut", you want to scrape to cut. "Cutting" leads to breaking. remeber that. It's important. Anyways,... I rounded the edges as I said I was going to do so you can see a glowing edge around the whole panel while staring at the front of it. I also saned it a bit too because the scraping left some nice clear scrapes which you could see when it was lit up. That being because the light was passing through the clear areas as oppose to being diffused like the last of the ares. It looks a hell of alot better in person and behind the tinted acrylic.

When you said you scraped it off do you mean perpendicular to the acrylic or almost parallel like shaving?

Ok,... you take a razor blade and you hold the blade against the edge of the acrylic so that the blade is vertical or perpendicular to the edge. With a little bit a pressure pushing down on the blade run it across the edge. You should see a string of acrylic come off as you do it. Once down sand it down to give that diffused look:)

Yea,... I know. I just got off of vacation. On the last day of my vacation I crashed my bike at the virginia international raceway. I was hit by another rider and was thrown off my bike at about 60 - 70mph. So,... I was banged up, a bit. Plus I got use to sleeping nights, I work night shift. So when I get home from work, instead of working on the puter I was going to bed. I was tired as hell. I started working on it the last couple of days. Havent really got anything done, just planning and figuring things out. Right now I am trying to figure out where I am going to put everything instead. It's tight! Two days at this and I just figured it out. It going to be a sweet setup. Just wait. I have two ports at the top of the reservoir which is mounted up higher then the rest of the WCing stuff(except rads). One is for filling and the other is for escaping air. You open both and fill. IT makes filling faster and a bit neater. My filling ports are bit bit smaller then usual so thats why I through in the air port. You dont need to open the case at all to drain/ fill this machine. all ports are excessible from the outside. I am not using danger dens fill ports either. I made my own:) I have a "T" which is going to be located at lowest point of the WCing loop. The drain port will be located in the back of the case, somewhere. All you need to do and put the case at the edge of a table and open the port. Just catch everything in a bowl. Easy as that. It's hot. I have so much to do. I am trying to get as much done as possible. Certain things have to be done at certain times. This is why I am jumping around from task to task. I have some pictures of what I started but I am not going to post them until this task is done and that is mounting the reservoir, pumps, installing the ports and tubes. Crazy thing is that once I am done with this I have to take it all out again. LOL. Sucks but doesnt. Anyways,... I'm tired going to bed. Peace.

I'm using RED thread locker for my threads. I trust this stuff over tape. I will be using tape when it comes to the reservoir though, it's acrylic.

Here is how everything will be setup. How friggin cool is that! I wanted the pumps to be mounted identical to ech other as oppose to one pump facing one direction and the other facing a different direction. I wanted the reservoir up high so it can do its job catching air. It just crossed my mind now that I forgot and drain line. Crap. Thats ok. I still have a small piece of hose left that might just be long enough. Thats crazy because that mean I bought just enough hose. LOL. Anyways,... feast your eyes.

Check out this reservoir mounting. It's mounted right to the top of the case with two nylon washers which are keeping it from touching the top of the case. One port is for escaping air while filling. Makes it a bit easier to fill. The ID of those ports are a bit smaller then the rest of the system so filling will be a bit slower. But with the air port it won't wont be all that slow. I have threaded plugs that screw into them when the system is filled. The rad housing will be over those ports somewhat hiding them. I dont really want them to be all that hidden because I like them and I want people to kinda of see them so they can ask about them. The fill hose will have a fitting on the end of ti that will screw into the fill port. The fill hose is smaller in diameter so it can bend alot easier. Theres just enough height once the rad housing is bolted to the case to screw in the fill hose to fill. It's perfect. There goign to be a drain port just like this on the back of the case.

Now,... check this out. I needed a support bracket for the reservoir. I didnt want to accidently hit the reservoir and crack the threaded holes. The only thing holding up the reservoir are the ports. I need something to hold it other then the ports. This is the start of the bracket. The long strip you see I cut initially. I cut it from the aluminum I got from the junkyard. When I tried the bend a 90 degree with it,... it broke everytime. I tried heating it. Still broke. I dont have the means of heating it enough to bend it to that degree. The alloy is the same of the case, I think. IT slightly harder which means it breaks a bit easier when bent to much without enough heat. So I cut another strip out of the stuff I got from my friend. This aluminum is a bit softer which means it bends alot easier without any heat.

Here it almost done. There will be a bolts where the clamp is. There will be two more pieces that will bent 90 degrees each. They will be bolt to the top of the case. The support arm will be bolted between them just as it is between the tabs the the bracket.

Well,... if one pump fails. It will restrict the flow just a bit, atleast I would imagine it would. The coolant will still be able to flow through the failed pump. The flow wont be as great seeing that one pump will be moving water through the entire system. I will have ways of checking for pump activity.

Ok. Finished the reservoir support bracket. Intricate work takes up so much time. But, it's worth it. The bracket is the only thing I got done today. I'm ok with that though because it looks cool as hell.

Please post more pics. I love the cradle but the arm to it look a bit to long and obtrusive to my eye. Could have been the angle. But then again im also not considering you're having a smoked acrylic in front of that. But thats just my 2 cents I am stilla huge fan arm or not :P

Ok,...So I decided that I wanted some kind of enclosure for the pumps, tower like enclosure. I didn't have a sheet of the bendable aluminum that was big enough for this task so I went to the scrap bin. I decided to use the shell that I scrapped a while ago. It was shell one of three. Before I could use this aluminum I had to bend it back. It was pretty easy. As you can see it bend back nicely.

I have to file down the tabs at the back of the tightening ring to keep the blue from showing. It will also allow the pumps to sit closer the mobo tray saving some space, 1/4" to be exact.

I am going to make two egg shaped shields that will be merely for show. They will be bolted to the original bracket mounts. These egg shaped shields that i will TRY to make will cover the old mounting post things and the I/O ports too. They will also cover up some of the rest of the pumps too. I dont know if I will be able to make them. It would require me to bang them into shape. I never done that kind of fabrication but I thought I would give it a shot. Let me know what you think!

You should get some gasket material between those pumps and the alum housing--I have the same pump and it has a high pitch whine that gets worse without sound dampening :) In fact some spray on PlastiDip (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=993) would be perfect for that column--the stuff is like a second skin

It's not that hard actually. I would say that the hardest thing to do with metal is filing with those small files:( I wish the files were a bit longer and a bit more coarse. Anyways. I love it. I do all my cutting with a jig saw using s fine tooth bit that tears through these sheets and I use files to file the sheets to an exact size. I scour all my lines into the aluminum with a scalpel or a nail so I know my lines will stay. Umm,... yea. It's easy. Bending,... if I cant do it with my hands I use the hammer. I use stuff around the house to set up jigs for bending such as boards, vises, bricks, whatever. Easy.

Wow,... totally forgot about sound dampening. Hmmm,... I have an idea. Once I grind away the tabs at the rear to the ring thing,... I am going to wrap the motor with the foam pad. Then I will cut two foam rings with a center opening being large enough to go over the padded motor. I'll then put the motor into the hole and this way the pump wont be touching the tower at all. I will have to file way some more of the holes to fit the padded motors. Thanks crimson. That plastidip looks sweet! If I knew about that stuff I would of use it for all the aluminum! Sweet.

Thats cool. The one other thing about aluminum,... this computer is going to be HEAVY!!! It's already heavy and theres nothing in it! This computer is more then half done,... I would say about 60% done. I work on it almost everyday so progress is made everyday. The thing is that alot of the intricate work takes time. Plus,... planning takes time too. I would say very soon. Do I have plans for something else after this? Well,... I have to find another place to mod first. My gurl friends mother is wanting her garage back to store her stuff. My mother will let me use the garage at her house so I would say yes I have plans for other mods. I have several ideas in my head for mods. I just need the money and time to do them. This one idea I have involves panes of acrylic and aluminum. Basically a box where the sides dont touch. The side are like suppended in mid air using rods or something. Weird stuff but I think I might try and tacle that out next. I'm not sure. I wouldnt mind making my own version of an acrylic case. Lots of ideas.

Ok,... it's very easy. First thing to remember is that your bends are going to be slightly larger then the pipe your using to make your bends. Also,... you want to mark and bend one bend at a time. If you make all your marks first and dont compensate for stretch all your bends except the very first bend will be off. If you dont use the actual bend size to calculate your marks too, your bends will be really off. To determine the actual bend size messure the bend, easy as that. Assuming you went through my log to see how I did the actual bends,... mark a line and bend that line. Take everything off the aluminum and sit it on a table. Set one side the the aluminum on the table and place a ruler against the other side so the ruler is sitting on the table. Make sure your aluminum is standing straight up. Messure from your bend line to the inside of the ruler. Thats your actual bend size and it should be a bit larger then the OD of the pipe you used. Now that you know what the actual bend size is,... all you need to do is subtract that from the size you are looking to acheive. Example,... say you are bending a box like the one I made. Your box is going to be 2 x 4 x 8 x 4 x 2. Now,... say you have a sheet thats 22" long. Now say your actual bend is 1". The first mark would be made 1" from the edge. Place that 2" side you just made flat on a table and stand a ruller up against the remaining aluminum to make your next mark. You next mark is going to be 3" up from the surface of the table. You do this for the rest of your bends. It's easy. By time you get to the end you will have extra aluminum. Even if you had a 20" sheet which is just enough according to the dimensions of your box. The fact that the corners are round will give you extra. Also,... theres some stretching going on too. Just mark and cut off the excess. Got it? GOOD! Peace.

Sound/ vibration dampening:) Thi sturned out very well! Better then i thought! The OD of the ring is a bit smaller the the pump ring and the ID of the ring is a bit smaller then the motor OD.

Gently push the pump through the hole. Now the pump isnt touching the aluminum at all. I dont know how well it will work but it looks like it will do me some good:)

I am going to make some retaining clamps to keep the pumps in thier holes. I'm going to use this hole saw to make my bends. It's slightly smaller then the motors OD so I know when it springs back it will be just about the right size to fit over the motors.

First, I make a small bend at the end. This will be the first tab in which a bolt will pass through to tighten the clamp. You dont need to bend it a full 90 degrees. A bit past 45 degrees is fine.

Clamp the hole saw ontop of the aluminum like so. When done bend up. The aluminum is very soft so it beds with ease. I put an adjustable wrench over tabe I initially bent to bend it comppletely around the hole saw. The tab bent back a bit but thats good because when you band the second tab they will be paralelle to each other. If they are not they need to be.

Here the almost finished clamp in the vise. I just got done drilling out a hole for the bolt. Before I remove it I will cut off the slack. The tabs are together at this point so if I do cut off the slack it will be evenly cut off from both tabs.

Your right. The only modding before this was cutting out a window and then cutting out a hole in that window for a badong kit. All my past computers were basically put together and thats about it. Well,... I'm off to do some work on it. PEACE!

Now,... choose one and tell me how you would want it. As in all UV green or some Uv green and some aluminum, half and half. What would you want UV and what would you want UV. Now,... personally. I like #1. Originally I wanted it with polished aluminum sides and UV in the center. But,... my gurl brought it to my attention that if the sides were UV and lit up, you would see a nice glowing edge. That would be HOT! BUT! I still have a lot of other stuff to do to these things. I want to drill holes in them , cut some grooves, and some other shapes. The edges of all of those cutouts will be glowing. Which means if my sides were aluminum and because of that the edges wouldnt be glowing,... so what. Theres going to be plenty of stuff glowing. You know what I mean? It would be sweet though. You would see that nicely through the side of the computer:) So,... let me know. Pick one,... and tell me how you want it! I'm goign to bed for a little bit. Goingto try and wake up soon to read this and get started on the real deal:)

Personally, I'd go with UV reactive colored acrylic for the side panels. I'd also probably try and build the shields out of .20 styrene which you can then paint up how you want, and would be fairly durable to stand up to some handling. Crimson's MUCH more knowledgable in the area of working with styrene than I am, so it might be best to talk with him about that part, but that's how I'd do it.

Love #1. If you wanted to get alot of detail like trim etc. Id say to go with some of that wonderful plastic styrene I made my first cuts in it a couple days ago my first couple sucked but then i found a method that word VERY well for me and got perfect cuts outta the stuff.

ANYWAYS back to your mod. If alum and acrylic are the two materials youw ant to use I say acyrlic with alum accents. Since what the pumps are mounted to are allready alum. The acrylic will set off the background and add some good contrast. Not to mention glow :P

Hold on cowboy,... You might just get you aluminum accents. Right now I have begun to make the side in aluminum. I am going ot make side in the UV green too. I will most likely use both for the side to give that glowing edge thing. For the inner shields,... I will make the aluminum ones first. If I decide that i want to use UV green instead,... I can use the aluminum pieces to help bend a form the UV green shields. I can always cut up the aluminum ones and use them for the accents. I will most likely make one of eveything to try it all out. You guyz have to keep in mind the the tower itself once finished, it will be about 60% aluminum and 40% UV green. So it wont really look like the pumps are being held up just by aluminum. It will all work out in the end. But for now I am making one of everything. Wait for yesterdays pics,... give me a minute.

UPDATE!!! WHAOOOO!!!!

Here I drew a more precise and modified version of the prototype side. This side has better curves. I drew it on the cardboard instead of some aluminum because some of the drawing consisted of freehand. With freehand there is some erasing and I didnt feel like erasing on aluminum.

Also,... because of the fact that its difficult to determine how big the side can be in any particular place of mounting, the cardboard allows me to cut out a trial real quick for fitment. Once I have to cutout I like, I will use it to trace onto the aluminum. This may sound like an inaccurate way of doing it but keep in mind that this piece doesnt really have a target size. Just what I would like it to be. Once it's on aluminum I can file it down so that it looks smooth and continuous. See the difference between the prototype and the new. Much better.

Now,... how to make 4 other almost identical pieces in a fair amount of time? Easily! I took my template of placed it on the sheet of aluminum that I will use to cut out the other pieces. Using pencil I drew around the template leaving about a 1/4" inch of space all the way around. I did that 4 times, obviously. Using the lig saw and some cutting oil, I cut out the those pieces. I use engine oil as cutting oil. It dont really matter what you use, just that you use something. Cutting straight you really dont need it but it does improve cutting big time. When cutting circles and stuff you really need it because the blade twists in the little groove it just cut, rubbing alone the edges causing it to heat up. The blade will start to hang on the project kicking the jig saw all over the place. Anyways,... I then file the burr off all the edges and even do some sanding so those pieces are very smooth. You take all the pieces and stack them up from smallest in front to largest in back. This is important so when you put your template ontop of that stack, it's easier to see if the template is covered by all of the pieces. If one piece in the middle is off and you file the whole thing down and then take it apart, you will see what that one piece was off. That will be not be fully formed and therefore you will be one piece short. So,... take all those piece and stacking as I said before with the template piece all the way in front. Line them up so that every pieces covers the template then lock them in a vise. Drill out the mounting holes for all 4 pieces using the hole in the template as your guide. Once done, without removing the pieces from the vise, sand the hole on both sides of the stack. Then pass some bolts through the holes locking them together. This way when you take them out of the ivse they wont move. Check the pic,...

Here I begun filing. YOu basically file away all the slack on the 4 new pieces. File down to the template but without removing to much from the template. Once you touch the template, you are done in the area for now. Go all the way around.

It's important you keep your file perpendicular to the piece while filing. The edge you are working on must be square when you are done. If not them one side will be larger then the others.

All done for now. I used a belt sander upside down to sand the edges down a bit. It helps make the pieces nice and round and helps maintaining a squre edge.

Ok,... youare right. You do need a steady hand to keep them all the smae size. Or,... you need a steady hand to keep the file perfectly perpendicular to keep them straight:) It's not like have to be super steady to do it, you just need to keep mind of the angle you are filing. When standing over the project while filing it's hard to tell where the file is on angle. Alot of beginners forget this and once they file to the line and then look. Theres a slope that leaves them all different sizes. I noticed that most of the time people file with the handle down to far. Which leaves a slope slanting down from back to front. Now about my hardware,... no, I'm not using it in another case. It's all laid out on my desk:( It's hard but,... good. If I wan tot use the hardware,... I f have to finish this project:) It's motivation:) I still have an unopened half-life 2!!! Can you believe that! Lordy! I havent really played doom, other then the demo. That ran great on the system before all this. Cant imagine how it will run after all this with a nice OC.

Check it out. This was my first mod. I sold it before my project now to get the case I have now,... which is basicalli the same case but not as tall. With the rad housing attached its about the same height. I deleted all of the pics I took of my first case mod awhile ago for some reason. Dont know why. The only pics of it is the ones the guy took for his work log. It's the tall silver lian-li case. I install the window and cut the hole in the window for the badong kit. The Aerogate Gatewatch was mine too. Sold it to him.

The tribal didnt go with the case and the plain just flat out sucked. I wanted something either blade looking or better yet structured looking. I like #4. I would like some circles in there but couldnt quite figure out how. #4 doesnt have circles but it looks structured. To get 2 (or more) exact copies. Use a bit of spray glue (on one side of each) and stick them all together. Then drill and cut like normal. This is a trick that my old man uses when he's cutting out 2 or 3 of the same thing on his Scroll saw (the old man is a master in wood....I look @ his stuff and go wowww!)
It will be thick but go slow and there shouldn't be any problems (alum is soft!)

You had to go put #9 in there....Wow....I'll stick with #4 (no circles, but Curves and straights kinda ties everything together)

The glass and tile ones will work sweet because they dont gouge to cut. They scrape. Scraping is the key to cutting acrylic(plexi). The drill bit in the middle,... I never used it but I dont trust it. It's no different then any normal drill bit. It gouges. You can grind you own drill bit to drill through acrylic.

First post! un-surprisingly fitting because everytime i look at an update i get closer to deciding that quake 3 is going to have to stand aside to a new, growing love of modding.

dude, this is amazing work. period.

Real question is what do you do for a job, ie, is it something that relates to modding because you seem to have a feel for the tools you use and how they operate. Or then, how did you get started into this?

@ sXenoG - this time I used a scroll saw. It was so much easier then using a dremel and filing away at whats left. The dremel is a very wild tool. It very hard to get close to the target line without cutting to much. So the cuts are very broad and to the point. Once you are done dremeling,.. you have to file away at whats left, which is usually alot. With the scroll saw its the other way around. You can cut right up on the line without any worries of cutting past the line in a instant. You can still cut past the line but if you are careful and tmae your time,... you can split the target line in half! seriously! The blades are paper thin! This means less filing, alot less.

@ seVerity - WELCOME BRO! Put down the Q3 and start moddin bro! Theres nothing comparible! I love it! I work at a hospital as a nurses aid. Nothing to do with power tools! LOL. It's funny,... I'll bring a small task to work with me so I can plan and prep for the next day and everyone is like WTF is that? LOL. If you have common sense you can do what I do. It's easy! How do you get into it? Easy,... just get into it! If you want it,... just do it. I swear once you start it will be very hard to stop. I'll be updating in minute. I'm at work now. As soon as I'm done doing what I got to do, I'll update.

I went to Sears to get some blades for the saw and found these! There a larger version of the ones I have been using! I love these things! I bought several of them! I'll use these to polish my parts:)

I also went to home depot to get these:) Aluminum spacers. They will replace the washers I used with the cardboard version of the shields.

Here they are mounted to the pumps. I did not make use of the spacers here. So the sides are close to the pumps then they will be. Look cool huh?

Heres the design scratched into the the template piece and colored over with a black crayon. Makes it easier to see the lines.

This one is for Mr. Boddaker,... this is right after the scroll saw. Any filing is minimal. Cleaning up burrs and some left over aluminum.

I drilled a hole for each area that has to be cut out so I can get the blade through the aluminum to make the cut. I had to alter the blades a bit because they wouldnt fit in the holes. Heres what the blade looked like before. A bit off topic but I have to say this has to be one of the nicest pics I have taken throughout this project. Perfect lighting and clarity.

You should! You can get them cheap,... like $70? I'm keeping my mothers, LOL! You have to see how narrow the blades are!!! As thin as paper.
