I have an idea for a biohazard theme mod I'm planning, using a thermaltake armor. the part I need help with is the front bezel, witch I am going to use plexiglass for. My idea is this, the cut out a paper biohazard symbol and tape it the the back side of the plexi. Then pant that side of the plexi black, so that when the paper is removed I have plexi that can only be seen through in the symbol. i then want to light the symbol with a green light. My problem is that I don't know how to give the symbol a uniform glow. Neither cathodes or leds would work very well, because then some spots would be brighter than others. I thought about sanding the plexi to diffuse the light from a green cathode, but I don't know if that would be enough.

So, does anyone have suggestions for what I could use?

Have you thought of using a green plexi instead of clear?

It's all about the green LEDs :D

Sanding will be sufficient to diffusion the light. Sand the entire thing, get your stencil taped on, and use a paint that is made for plastic. It will stick the best without any real preparation required.

speaking of sanding...what if you put your stencil down, and then sanded with a fine (400-800grit) sandpaper all over, effectively diffusing the light and making the only transparent part the biohazard symbol...then you wouldn't have to deal with paint

I think it going to be tough to get a uniform glow unless you paint everything and then sand the biohazard symbol (like Maleficus was saying)...otherwise you could try using a dremel to bore out a little bit of the plexi and embed an led or three...

It wouldn't necessarily give you a uniform glow...but it should light up the edges of the symbol...

Thanks for the advice, you guys gave me some ideas. i looked around on websites for different lights, and found El wire. I thought maybe if I used Maleficus's method and put El wire around the edges of the symbol it could give pretty uniform lighting.

This was the one part of my mod I was haviing the most trouble planning. I'll post a sketchup of the entire mod when i'm done with it.
