Well, I have a video that I captured from my cousin's camera. I have to edit out the last few seconds so I can burn it on a DVD and send it to his girlfriend. The actual video I need is her and her son playing in the snow (they live in TX) and at the beach. The section I need to edit was filmed at a bike rally. I'm pretty good at most things, but a total n00b when it comes to video editing.

It's giving me fits about reading the file to edit it. I can play it without issue, I just can't edit it. I also tried to convert the file to a wmv with windows media encoder. It's been almost 24 hours, and over a dozen tries, but it always hangs when it starts the second pass of the encoding.

Perhaps this? (http://www.softwarepile.com/ultra_video.html) I didn't do much reading on it, but it seems decent.

I would recommend "TMPG" for that type of Project. Easy to use, understand, and FAST.

Cut. Edit. Tweak it a Bit. Encode to DVD . . . E a s y!
