Machining a small part on the Unimat with a lathe setup. Very simple T-handle thumbscrew modeled after an orthopedic surgical tool.

Awesome video, Paul! Great work as usual - I was hoping you'd show us how you made that. I'm dying for a metal lathe over here.

gotta suggestion to ya crimson...

dunno how precise work you do... but when laying out your work you can take your marker and mark the area then use your calipers to scribe in your cut line

just something ive learned when workin in a machine shop

Just got done watching it. Those 11 minutes just flew by, I was glued to the screen. You can definitely add me to the growing list of people who want a Unimat.

I did use the calipers to scribe the marks, but they wouldnt read on camera so I transfered them with a felt tip--;) For those that don't know, most calipers have ground-sharpened tips for scribing the work accurately like b4i7 said.

I figured that's what you did. It was either that or you have a bionic eye calibrated to one hundredth of an inch.:p

EDIT: By the way Crimson that makes two, only four more to go.:D

after a lot of practice...you get to be pretty damn accurate with just eyesight...not exact but real close...

i used to hand machine threads by eyesight....and normally i would be right on size

Thank you Crimson!!

I know you hear it all the time but you are the man, and a true asset to the modding community. Video was awsome, felt like I was standing over your shoulder, and gave me a much better insight to how the Unimat works. I have always enjoyed watching metal working, maybe I should have been a machinist.. :D Anywho.. great work and by the way you got a music credit?

Nicely done Capello! Always a pleasure to watch a master at work.

Hope we get to see some more video's in the future! Sure would be fun to see the variety of things you could make with that thing! ^_^

Glad it was helpful...I've been waiting 20 years to work on a Unimat LoL!!

Music is yet again from the http://doom.ocremix.org site. I just wanted to throw anything in there. :)

I had it on my MP3 player before it died. :)

Awesome video too! I love watching machining stuff, I find myself watching brakes on the lathe where I work.

Man way to pop my balloon.:hurt: I was hoping Crimson really was a robot, that would explain why his work is so damn good.:D

It might just be me, but I would have been happy being a long haired robot-making recluse like in the sci-fi books :) Just gimme a lifetime supply of good pizza and cherry PopTarts (the comic book and the food).

Are kidding? That's my perfect job. :D

Kinda hoping that my degree will lead to a career in AI to tell the truth.

Thanks. I've yet to use it and from those pictures you can't see my mistakes, but once I start some of my work, I'm sure it will be handy!
