here comes my very first worklog. pretty much everything i draw out and have planned, never works or i never finish. everything that i make as i go along turn out good or at least i finish it. so dont expect any fancy sketches or drawings.
as far as the guts of the new PC, there arent none lol. thats right, i dont have a budget for the parts yet so i figured at least when the parts come the case will be done.
i do however have most components to figure out where they will go, mobo from an old p3(micro atx), shell from a PS, a few none working HDs, couple of cd drives.

color theme, well black, blue and silver(bare metal finish). interior of the case will be a dark blue, exterior will be black and wires and racks and what not i'll leave with metal finish.

i already got the frame all welded up. i used copper t.ubing since i had that stuff laying around at work. i'll have pics of frame tonight. i wont be OCing so i dont need water cooling equipment, but there will be plenty of room for it if i ever get brave enough to have liquids inside the case :(

i liked that turbine fan mod a member of TBCS did, cant remember who but i liked it. so i'll be fiberglassing 2 of that style blow hole for the intakes with the turbine fan mod.

i got 2 lcd's i'll be incorporating. a 15" and 2.5". so i know i'll get a vid card that has 2 vga/dvi outs and s-vid. 2.5" uses s-vid and i'll provably use it to show either temperatures, fan speeds or vis for music. 15" screen will be the main display when another monitor isnt hooked up. both screen are already gutted out...

as far as cable sleeving, i can pick up a few steel braided hoses from harware store. painting molex conectors silver to match.

and i think thats all for now. oh and everything is getting build from scratch. hd rack, cd/dvd racks, mobo tray, psu rack.....

Yeah, Defyant is a good guy to take cues from - he knows what hes doing. He's written a couple of tutorials about how he does that stuff, such as the blowholes etc. - if you haven't all ready, those are worth checking out.

i have thats where i got my inspiration from. I'm doing it cus it's pretty easy and simple but the end result looks amazing. i plan on having both holes right next to each other instead of having a gap like that pic

i like how everything looks black on the case, even the fans. but i had thought of using like silver/aluminum paint on the fans...what ya think? stand out too much?

i'm going after this look
http://www.theempire.com.au/images/2005-09-27/Terminator%202%20Quarter%20Scale%20Figure.jpg

not the "i'll be back" or "mean-ass-machine-from-the-future-who's-going-to-try-to-kill-ya-then-saves-your-life-in-the-second movie". i like how it's got all these tubes and connections everywhere. instead of the robots hydraulics, i'll use some gas shocks to make the front panel(where 15" lcd is going) open up some way, either from right to left or from the top down...

http://www.aqpa87.dsl.pipex.com/scifihelmets/T2Aliens/HolColT207.JPG

that stuff that connects the skull to the jaw is the detail i'll be going for. i doubt i'll find any gas shocks that small so i'll either end up using rc shocks or custom made ones.

try to picture this with me. so i'll get a small diameter copper tubing. i'll get an end cap and weld it to the tube. then drill a small hole on the center of the cap. i'll put a rubber seal or something, on one of those screws that are smooth and got a little bit of thread at the end. i'll insert the screw with plastic rint through the tube and out of the end cap. so inside the tube there's the screw head with plastic seal/piece. the plastic/rubber will create some friction as the screw comes in and out... i dunno if this would be the hardway of doing it but i've never taken apart a gas shock nor do i know how it actually works.

now why would i go to the trouble of actually making a couple? i dunno lol but i'm sure with the parts made, they'll fall into place somehow.

i believe a member here made this case
http://www.bit-tech.net/content_images/orac3_part3/a3ud109L.jpg

thats where i got the idea of the cables but, i've seen some nice PSU that look nice already, like:
http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/productimage/17-128-002-04.jpg
http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/productimage/17-128-002-13.jpg
http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/productimage/17-190-012-12.jpg

but whats the point of slapping on an already made part on a "built from scratch" project? depending on budget i'll get a normal PSU, make a case/shell for it then make my own modular cables from the steel braided/shower head cables. if budget allows i'll just get something like that second PSU and mess with the cables.

and yes i know, i talk to much and not that many actual project pictures....

i must admit it would be intresting if you would try to make a regular PSU's cables like that SLI's. are you going to have a female connectors on the PSU's shell? or just braid them w/o modifications to the wires

Hiper PSUs pwn. Sorry for my use of 'pwn' but they really do.

And is that the Orca3 mod? If it is, I don't think anyone here did it, but it's a great mod.

This will be very cool if it has that look. I'll be watching this.

like i said it depends on budget, if its low then regular PSU. i'll make a bigger shell to make it modular. i've seen at local store, cant remember wich one, connectors similar to this one

http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/productimage/17-128-002-13.jpg

and if budget allows' i'll just get either of those PSU's and simply braid the modular cables, less work but more money for PSU

ha ha, i picked out those pics from newegg as sample's but i guess i picked one that seems to be a good brand, i'll keep that in mind. and yes it's the orca3 mod but i only like how the wires are, and thats the only thing i'm taking from that mod.

I love the color scheme! I think it is a popular color scheme but hey what looks better than black and blue with like a brushed steel silver finish. The same scheme I am thinking of using on my case.

so i dropped by lowes again. picked up a couple of more tubes, T's, 90d elbows, caps, and 1/2 to 1/4 fittings...i figured out how to do the HD rack and CD/DVD drive rack....i know where i'm placing the optical drives but got no clue where to mount the HDD rack..

http://www.bvcmfg.com/DSC00749.JPG
the HDD rack

http://www.bvcmfg.com/DSC00745.JPG
position 1 - front and bottom - connectors facing up

http://www.bvcmfg.com/DSC00746.JPG
position 2 - side and top - connectors facing down

http://www.bvcmfg.com/DSC00747.JPG
position 3 - front and top - connectors facing down

http://www.bvcmfg.com/DSC00748.JPG
position 4 - middle and top - connectors facing down

http://www.bvcmfg.com/DSC00744.JPG
position 5 - middle and bottom connectors facing up

i spent the weekend messing around with pieces of tubing and fittings and couldn't figure out how to do it. so i got the smaller tubing then everything fell in place. now i got to figure out where to mount it and hack it  . as for the opticals i'll end up mounting them off that bar in position 2. it will be the oposite of the HDD rack. you know the HDD is like _l_ or T , the other rack will be like -l with the smaller size tube being horizontal instead of vertical....

you guys want to help me out where to mount the HDD rack?

I'm not sure where to mount the HDD rack, but I do like what you did with the structural slab of copper. Looks holy....

haha, I kill myself

I like it too, and maybe you can use the copper frame in a water cooling setup. Great work so far!

do position 3 but get some more T's and do the same thing on both sides so its like this
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/6030/copperbu5.th.png (http://img262.imageshack.us/my.php?image=copperbu5.png)

cut the frame you made and put the two 1/2" tubes in place of what you cut out

Maybe you can't run watercooling through the pipes but you could run cables through them. Like have the power cables come out close to where they would connect to the drives.

GREAT idea for cable management. Not sure if the cables would reach all the way so you might have to drill/cut some cuts in them were the cables would pop out but it would look soooo badass and clean inside there.

For the hdd mount, I was thinking like a cube of copper pipe roughly the size of the hdd, then enclose it with mesh like this (http://www.mnpctech.com/moddersmesh.html). Then just cut out a section were the power and serial cables would go.

i see what you're saying about the cables.... kinda like they do with some chopper motorcycles, where they run the cabling through the frame..
at first i wanted to do the the PSU kinda like the orca3 mod. making a new shell for the PSU with then make my own custom modular cables.
http://www.imont.net/bbs/files/0809/19bf21.jpg

but i like the idea of running the wires IN-side the frame. that way i can find a cheaper PSU....

this sounds interesting too. maybe a big enough cube to mount 2 optical drives and 2 HDDs. meaning i got to get some more tubes. i dunno about the mesh thou cus that would block some airflow to the hard drives.

thank you guys for helping out with the ideas, this is why i love doing things i go along...

That was what I was thinking. Although I had the idea of making your own power cables that are permantly run through the tubing and go to each drive bay/wherever else you need. Then have connectors near the PSU that you can plug the PSU into. Also you can shorten the PSU cables to be only as long as needed.

i dont like sketchup too hard, too me a freaking hour to figure out how to move things around, for some reason the move tool was warping my objects around....

Nah, that honeycomb mesh allows like 80% airflow, besides, hdd don't get too hot at all. As long as the ambient in your case is at a reasonable level, you should be fine with mesh hdd/optical cages.

wow, took me a freaking year to work on this again. and by looking at the dates i'm either going to hit my first anniversary here at TBCS or i already did not that long ago...

but here's an update with pic's coming soon....

1st, i brought back the frame to work and for some reason i looked at it and went.... hmmm it's kind of big lol. since i've been here long enough to be affected by the modding bug, instead of starting from scratch and i started chopping to see what i could come up with lol.

i ended up something way smaller. something small enough to be on top of my desk. frame will get painted silver, black wire management and blue lighting from fans or cathode.

where the two sata hds will mount
http://www.sanctumrenderings.com/DSC02119.JPG
thats the overall feel of of it. mobo on top, psu on the bottom and hd's tilted on the side.

going to make an acrylic cover that will go on top of the mobo to kind of hide all the colors of the mobo. and thats it for my update
