I'm planning to build a woofer box, based around the golden rectangle. Each section will be 1/2 smaller than the other, amplifying multiple octaves (approx. 4 total) and giving a crisp, clear sound.

Here's the sketchup:

It's not scaled to the golden rectangle yet, but it will be :).

It's not really a subwoofer, it's a woofer. It's gonna be fairly small, but nonetheless it puts out great sound. I'm gonna have a mini amp powering this thing. I have high expectations of the design.

Going out to buy plexiglass today :).

You never cease to amaze me. Way to stay sharp, man. Can't wait to see more progress.

What gave you the idea to start this project?

Looks like a fun mod, what are you going to use the woofer for?

The idea was started from DaJe :p.

I'm going to use it to act as my main speakers for my 5.1 HD Dolby surround sound.

Sorry for sounding ignorant progbuddy, but how are you going to get 5.1 HD audio from 1 loudspeaker in a box?

Sorry for the confusion :p. I'm gonna use it as a central subwoofer, then have my component system providing sound effects, and some good ol' PC speakers as the main speakers.

Oh right, l guess like a band pass enclosure. Or I think a 3rd order enclosure?

I noticed on your sketch-up doodle there is room for other components. It's own amp or processor maybe?

It's not room for other components. It's the actual amplification chambers. There will be four amplification chambers, each amplifying one octave each, for a total of 4 octaves of amplification. Then underneath, there are 1st layer outlets.

A band pass enclosure then.

What driver do You have in mind?

It's a dual-layer speaker w/ a small driver (real small).

Anyways, this whole thing's gonna require:

-8 sheets of plexiglass
-Soldering Iron
-speaker
-mini amp

check out the acrylic tut on the forums before using it, but here it is (http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=131&) anyway.

you will also need a hypo type applicator.

and probably a funnel as well.

you can find everything on TAP plastics web site, (tutorials too i believe i.e. video), and it should come in under 10 bucks w/o shipping included.
