Let's start a new project!
This is my very first time to keep a detailed worklog in english, so don't blame me if my english is poor...
For this project I've made a lot of research and planned a lot of things to do, let's begin!
The main concept is to DON'T mod the case itself :-]
Shocked?
Let me explain somethig, this project is a challenge between me and Antanio, the creator of this beatiful case called CABE. My main goal is to add a water cooling loop inside the case without modding it in the outside. He told me that nobody was able to do that, and I've decidet to try to fit a water loop inside this little case...
Let the picture talk for me : the victim is a Cabe with smoked plexy top from Modd.it :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05600.JPG
Rear view :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05599.JPG
Lateral drive access :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05601.JPG
The guideline of my project are described above :
- No external modding
No outside rad, no extra holes, nobody have to imagine that the case is water cooled!
- Keeping the original look
The Cabe is made from steel , plexy and black trim so I've decided to mantain the same material and colours for the inside.
- Using a lot of italian water cooling gear
Here in Italy we have some guys that produces wb, so I've decided to use the most "Made in Italy" gear as possibile.
Lots of people in all the italian forums helped me with photos, measure, ideas and a lot patience, tnx guys!
But the biggest thank fly out to my wife AralT3, she is the best to support me!
And now, let's take a closer look to the Cabe to see exactly the amount of free space to play with :-]
rigormortem
04-22-2007, 11:19 AM
First of all, the overall dimension are really small, ony 30 cm each side, less than 12 inches...
Taking apart the top, I can see the fantastic mirror finish of the steel, do you agree?
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05603.JPG
As you see, the fans and the motherboard tray are 45° rotated relatively to the base. This means more work to do, but let's take a look to the device tray :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05604.JPG
Even this tray is made from steel, Antanio planned to have the dvd drive accessible from the side of the case, but I need to have it in front, so a little bit of work in this area... As you can see, the two front bay are designed only for short device like fanbus or cardreader. Anyway,, the total number of drive bay is this : 1 floppy , two slot for 3and1/2 device, two for 5and1/2 device , one short 3and1/2 and one short 5and1/4. The other PITA will be the psu, I would like to use my Enermax Liberty but the modular connector don't allow me to use the dvd...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05605.JPG
Here is the motherboard tray (fully removable with yust two screw) and the control panel with two usb ports, reset and power button, led, and the mini speaker. I need to modify this piece, is too naked for me...
rigormortem
04-22-2007, 11:19 AM
Let's begin removing the motherboard tray and taking some pics to see how it's polished :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05607.JPG
Dont'forget those sexy bay cover :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05608.JPG
Starting to remove the device tray to measure the free space for the psu :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05612.JPG
Considering the molex and the ide cable, considering that I want the drive stealth, the free space is about 11.5cm , 4,5 inches. Near to impossible to find a good PSU with this measure... The only psu that I found was a poor 180w, chinese brand, I'm considering to keep my Enermax and changing something for the dvd drive.
rigormortem
04-22-2007, 11:20 AM
We will consider the psu issue later, now I want to speak about the fans :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05606.JPG
As you can see the locking mechanism is easy, just a laser cutted steel frame and I'll keep this piece.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05701.JPG
Here is the temporary fan with the rad, the trick part is to find a method to screw togheter this items :-] Due to the less free space, the rad will be mounted horizontal, but the fan remains at the default inclination , 45°.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05702.JPG
A little search point me to Bill, at MNPCTech where I found the template for the fan holes, after a few minutes playing with coreldraw I've print two of this to paper and glued to a piece of alluminium.
rigormortem
04-22-2007, 11:21 AM
And now the cutting :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05703.JPG
I've made two of this, for two rad :-] Then I marked the spot for the holes :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05705.JPG
I've drilled all with a 4.15mm bit, then screwed together and marked the center for the cup bit :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05710.JPG
And now, a lot of patience, grease and vertical drill...
rigormortem
04-22-2007, 11:22 AM
Here is the setup:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05714.JPG
The Alu goes hot really quickly, so I've used this piece of ice, is made with an Ikea mould, they sell this to put the ice on the bottles, but why don'te be creative?
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05715.JPG
Here are the finished pieces, now I have to use a file to smooth all the side :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05718.JPG
Some comments about this work? :-]
rigormortem
04-22-2007, 11:23 AM
After about an hour of work, I want to see how they work :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05721.JPG
This fan is not the one that I'll use in the mod, it's just a spare fan :-] :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05723.JPG
I want to use the silicon pad, so I'll mount it to see the effective dimension. But, a little surprise, the holes in the rad are not ready for the screw! I've made the correct hole, M4, and this is the result :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05725.JPG
A bit strange, but is exactly what I have in mind to have !
rigormortem
04-22-2007, 11:24 AM
This is the correct position :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05727.JPG
Wow, it fits perfectly! Now let's go on with something different, the paint process of this little part is not so interesting ... Stay tuned for the next update, and please give some comments , but don't blame me for my poor english :-]

Interesting... that's a cute case, and it's gonna be tight in there.
Welcome aboard!

Welcome Rigormortem! I love those cases, very sleek. Looks like you are going to have fun with this one and we'll enjoy watching you work. Thanks for posting!
Welcome to TBCS!
Nice work there. Your English is fine. In fact it's a lot better than some people here who only speak English!
Same thing I was thinking. Your English is actually quite wonderful. There are some native speakers here that I have no idea what they're saying sometimes.

This should turn out well. It looks like you have a good idea going for the radiator mounting. Keep it up, I bet you will pull this off.
As for the english issue. A lot of people are too lazy to figure out what they are saying. You sound great!

that case looks way cool, maybe i missed it but what case is that?
rigormortem
04-24-2007, 04:25 PM
Let's do some reply-work, and wait 'till sunday for the update :-] Some WC gear are arriving to my home :-]
@xmastree : you're right, it's so tight! but I love to challenge myself :-]
@Bucko, DaJe : tnx a lot, so you say that my dictionary and Google works well? :-]
@jdbnsn : yes, I'm gonna play some tetris-alike game to fit everithing inside. Tnx to you to partecipate to this poor thread!
@chaksq : I try to turn out well :-]
@Cagedconnerman : the case is a Cabe, from www.modd.it , and will be one of the last model made in steel, the next release will be only in alu :-[
Tnx to all, your support is fantastic, and if sometimes I'll without the necessary words, please suggest me... BTW, tnx a lot...
And now, I'll go to the chrome guy, he's working for me :-]
Stay tuned, more update on week end!

04-24-2007, 04:32 PM
the case is a Cabe, from www.modd.it
Whoa! Click awards, check out that V8 case! Any good pics of that?
rigormortem
04-27-2007, 10:12 AM
Now it's the time to speak about the hard disk cooling method. Lot of Cabe user have reported the hight temperature of the disk, so I've decided to water cool them :-]
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05565.JPG
This wb is called Ma.Er. and is produced by an italian company. The system is pretty easy, two copper bars , two fittings, a piece of tube to connect the two parts and that's all! The funny part is bring the fittings out and the four alu spacers :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05574.JPG
After a quick mail with Lunasio, I've bring out all with the help of a bench vise, the glue that he use is strong! Finally, the result :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05579.JPG
And now, to the chrome guy!
rigormortem
04-27-2007, 10:14 AM
A quick shot :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05625.JPG
Now it's time to do some extra work, then polish :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05672.JPG
This is the way that I want the final result, the O-ring is 10mm but is only for estetic...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05792.JPG
Here you can see the four Ma.Er. coming back from the chrome guy, now I can begin to play!
rigormortem
04-27-2007, 10:16 AM
First of all, a quick tapping (is the correct word?) to 1/4 GAS ,
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05798.JPG
Then, 8 tube fittings, O-ring and Loctite 55, here is the partial result :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05799.JPG
Now I have to remount the spacer and the caps :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05800.JPG
Luckily, Lunasio sent me 4 new end caps, mine was damaged by the vise...
rigormortem
04-27-2007, 10:18 AM
With a n°14 key and some Loctite 55 I've replaced the end caps :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05801.JPG
Here you see the near ready pieces :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05802.JPG
With an hammer I've put the spacer and now I've to measure the tubing to link the two part...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05803.JPG
It seem so good!
rigormortem
04-27-2007, 10:19 AM
Family shot :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05806.JPG
End result :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05807.JPG
From the front :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05808.JPG
The final look is fantastic for me, and for you?
rigormortem
04-27-2007, 10:21 AM
Some extra shot :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05809.JPG
Ma.Er without disk
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05810.JPG
Both Ma.Er. , now I'm ready to do a leak test...
Some comments? Questions?
DaveW
04-27-2007, 01:14 PM
This is nuts dude, go for it! I don't know how effective that will actually be at cooling the drives but it looks great anyway. +Rep for originality.
-Dave
rendermandan
04-27-2007, 02:48 PM
yeah, does most of the head from a hard drive come from the top or sides. I've seen coolers for both.
DaveW
04-27-2007, 03:37 PM
There's a larger surface area on the top, and it's closer to the motors and so forth, and as heat rises...well, i'd probably say that the largest percentage of heat will be at the top. But the body of the drive is a solid piece, so if you cool it from the sides, the whole thing will cool down. However, that would rely on the water being passed through being pretty cool, in order to chill the drive a bit.
-Dave
rigormortem
04-29-2007, 05:44 PM
You're right, but this is not the only method that I plan to use to cool the drives :-]

I couldn't say my thoughts better.
rigormortem
05-01-2007, 12:11 PM
LOL!
I'll try to don't disappoint you, guys!
Now let's talk about the first ideas for the wc setup ...
I would like to add to the loop this passive dissipator like that :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05594.JPG
I'm in love with this , but I'm in doubt if and where place this item.. This is just a try, remember...
Now I'm working with this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05644.JPG
It's the setup for the distribution of the fluid in the passive dissipator, but it's too close to the hard disk, sorry for the odd tap, but I've only this one at home :-]
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05668.JPG
This is one more idea to use the dissipator, assuming that the pump position is under the psu, but I'm not convinced...
rigormortem
05-01-2007, 12:19 PM
Even speaking to the "test session" here is the setup that I would like to obtain for the GPU wb :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05670.JPG
The inlet and the outlet will be angled, to minimize the space. For the pump, here is what I have in mind to split the flow :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05671.JPG
But everything is in the "benefit pool" in my mind :-]
Let's talk about the B3 connector assembly , here is some of the connector that I've in house now...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05639.JPG
The O-rings are here only for aesthetic reason, in future I'll need some... more... a lot!
rigormortem
05-01-2007, 12:21 PM
The wb that I've choosen is this B3, bacause is chromed and I like the look, and even bacause a lot of friend told me that Oclabs do a good job and I want to give it a try :-]
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05734.JPG
For the assembly , as usual, I've used some Loctite 55, it's a quick way to seal and the cost is ridicule!
Just to familiarize withi this product, I0ve started with the B3 connector, angled connector, but in future I'll see if the straight connector will work better...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05735.JPG
The Loctite use is really easy, just cut a piece, roll up to the connector and screw :-]
A friend of mine, professional plumber, use only this, even in air tubing, with a 4 bar pressure .
Now I need to translate a little bit more my worklog, it's not easy for me, but if I can , tomorrow you'll have more things to read :-]
NocturnaL
05-01-2007, 12:29 PM
Wow thats a very odd case design, but i like it. And the water cooling is definately a bit more strange then most I've seen, looks good so far man. Keep it up.
rigormortem
05-02-2007, 01:31 PM
It's just for test, the final result will be so different!
Now that I have the wb connector in place, I want to see it on motherboard!
First, bring out the plastic frame , then two M4x40 screw, inox , obviously.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05751.JPG
Not so bad, not so good... I can do it better, beginning with the polish work on the OCLabs clip, that is really strong! Important info : the center hole is threaded M5 (correct word? I hope so...)
I've planned to insulate the screw with this hard plastic rounders :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05752.JPG
Tapping to M4 :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05753.JPG
One rounder under the mb, one to the top, now how can I proceed?
rigormortem
05-02-2007, 01:40 PM
Here is the screw with his spacers installed :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05754.JPG
But I don't like to see the bare screw... Let's take a toru to my junk drawers searching for something... Here is the reasult :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05755.JPG
I like it, but I found even this two piece :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05756.JPG
Even chroming the brass piece, I don't like the final look... The first solution is ok for me, and for you?
rigormortem
05-02-2007, 01:42 PM
I've decided to add a little "cabe look" using this gummy rings, they are originally panel led holder. The last adding is ... mmm, google don't help me... what is the correct word for the top fixing ?
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05760.JPG
BTW, I love the final look! Now I've to work to the main screw that control the force applied to the wb...
The original screw look so odd, so I've decided to use this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05764.JPG
Hex head screw ,inox , M5x50 , a led holder, a pipe from an old SMA connector and a SAT cable connector, from my fabulous drawers :-] After playing with some configuration, the final result is this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05772.JPG
I like the final look, and you? Now that the wb is in place, I can cut the tubing in exact lenght, the Tygon is really expensive and I don't want to waste it...
rigormortem
05-02-2007, 01:44 PM
Family shot :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05768.JPG
The next work to do is some filling work with the Ma.Er. connector, the nipples for the pump and all the connectors for the vid card wb...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05684.JPG
Now, to the chrome guy, 5 euros and a week to wait... I hate to wait...
Now, it's all, asap I'll do more! Stay tuned!
rigormortem
05-07-2007, 05:14 PM
Talking about the pump, here is an idea for the placement:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05747.JPG
Nipples, T and compression fittings :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05748.JPG
It fits, but I have really less space to work... But if I change somethings...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05749.JPG
In this way is better, but, repeat, it's only a test!
rigormortem
05-07-2007, 05:28 PM
Other idea :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05778.JPG
I don't like this placing , but this allow me to have the reservoir and the pump without talking the most important fact : the radiator is really near! I hope to place finally everything here, but I need to modify the reservoir!
rigormortem
05-07-2007, 05:30 PM
But the most important thing is the hardware placing, to be sure to have some free space , here a pics of the motherboard tray :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05773.JPG
Talking about the screw to fix the mb in place, I've chose to use this screws :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05774.JPG
They are bigger than usual, but I love this!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05775.JPG
This is the critical point, but it fits well! And now I can begin the hardware mounting!
rigormortem
05-07-2007, 05:34 PM
The fans that I've oredered a lots of time ago are arrived! I've choosen the Enermax UC-8AEBS , really interesting, magnetic motion, easy detaching of the fan blade and trimmer to regolate the speed...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05825.JPG
Tnx to all the people at www.officinainformatica.it to found there delicious fans!
After a few works, here is the result :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05827.JPG
As you can see, I've used other led grommets as anti vibration between the fans and the rad :-]
More upload have to come, I'm always too late in translation works...
rigormortem
05-11-2007, 02:58 PM
Now it's the time for the usb port :-]
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05616.JPG
Take out the cover and working to the fixing method, I've used this spacer, they are threaded M3 , so for the Cabe side they are ok:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05626.JPG
But fot the screw side are too small, so I've decided to tapping one side to M4 :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05627.JPG
Only one side, remember...
rigormortem
05-11-2007, 03:01 PM
Here are the ready spacer :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05632.JPG
Searching for something to cover the cable mess I've found this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05677.JPG
A bit expensive, 12.40 euros, but it fits well...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05680.JPG
Marked the holes, then drilled with a 4.2mm bit.
rigormortem
05-11-2007, 03:02 PM
Here is the first fitting :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05681.JPG
Now I need to find something to cover the sides...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05692.JPG
The grill will be ok for the testing pourpose, let's bend :-]
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05694.JPG
Fot the bottom I've used some alu bars to help me to obtain the correct bend...
rigormortem
05-11-2007, 03:05 PM
Slowly it comes up....
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05695.JPG
I need to work more with this piece, but this is only a test piece...
SLeeving the cables :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05906.JPG
I've used this, it's a MicroDip tube from Gardena, you csn find it in near every gardening store, the pirce is really low, 6 euros for 15 meters, ID 4mm and OD 6 mm.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05687.JPG
The final 5 cm are without tube to allow me to do a lot of test and bending.
rigormortem
05-11-2007, 03:07 PM
Now all the cables are sleeved, it's time to cure the side of the grill with the irrigation tubing :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05699.JPG
For the first try it's not too bad, mounting in place :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05728.JPG
Side view :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05729.JPG
I like it, but now it's time to stop joking , it's time to made the final release!
rigormortem
05-11-2007, 03:09 PM
I was searching for a piece of smoked plexy, and I came across this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05952.JPG
The cover of an old Corsair Hydrocool :-]
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05953.JPG
Marking the cut and cutting with the diamond cutter from Dremel, it's not cheaper, but cut the plexy like an hot knife in the butter!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05966.JPG
First piece ready.
rigormortem
05-11-2007, 03:11 PM
Second piece is held in place with a strip of double sided tape :

My idea was to place a cheapo pci 4 port usb card, but I have only free space for a single pci card...
I must choose between 4 usb or my lovely Pinnacle PCTVSAT... I've choosen Pinnacle...
But I need more USB plug, so , moddin a cheap usb hub :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05426.JPG
Here is the hub, without his original plastic skin, I've mapped all the joints to do, then I've begun to dissasemble all the plug, except the mini one :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05781.JPG
All without ports... As you can see , it's possible to power up this little boy with an external +5v source, lovely!
Now I need more space to play with :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05786.JPG
I've used some strip pin (right term?) , they cost near 1.50 euro for 20 piece.
Don't blame me for the cords color, at home I have only this :-]

The sacrifical victim :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05780.JPG
An old DIN keyboard "vampire" to hook up an old webcam... But the necessary plug si present, I need this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05789.JPG
Here is the necessary cable, a male white molex with all the pins, and a new uv green molex tha I want to use:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05790.JPG
With this tool (I don't know the name in english, can someone help me?) I've secured the cable to the molex then I used a lot of heat shrink tubing to insulate all...
Now I need to build the box for the hub.

The only free space that I have is the floppy drive bay, here are the necessary items :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05854.JPG
I use only he bare chassis of the floppy to have an idea of the whole space, then I used an old memory card reader :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05856.JPG
Ok, it fit, now the 4 port...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05863.JPG
My idea is to place the usb port here, at 45° degrees. Strange, I know, but keep in mind that on the top I have the psu, at the same degrees, and even the motherboard is slanted in the same way...
Not that I have some measure, let's build all in alu!
Stay tuned!

Firt, I must say a big tnx to Redemptor, owner of the Project Stardust (http://www.italiamodding.it/site/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=340&forum=4), that made this big transaltion for me...
Now that the motherboard, the radiators and the usb port cover are ready, has come the time to see if my measures were right. If something has gone wrong I’ve just lost moneys, a bet with a friend and more than all I’ve made a bad figure with you all.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05828.JPG
Oh yeaaaaahhh!! Everything fits in correctly!!!

Closeup of the radiator, B3 and the videocard.
And now let’s spend some other time on the usb port.
rigormortem
05-22-2007, 05:35 PM
Now that the volume tests have been done it’s time to make everything in aluminium.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05877.JPG
After some cuts and biadesive ribbon, here’s the box where will go the 4 usb ports and the memories reader.
Yes, biadesive ribbon…
I use it a lot for my projects when I’m in testing phase. I think that it’s really useful to hold in place all the pieces to be drilled, to take measures and evaluate spaces without the needing of glues that take a lot of time to solidify, and more than all it can be removed in really few time.
Usually I use the classic biadesive for moquettes, the roll that I’ve is of 50 meters and costs about 4 euros, and in four years that I’ve been using it I still havent’ reached its half length.
But let’s proceed talking about its shape. How you’ve seen it’s longer than a normal floppy reader, and has a final part with an L shape. This has been made to simplify the exit of the cables and more than all to don’t hide the bottom of the case that is mirrored and really beautiful to be seen…
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05880.JPG
Here is how it should look after some cuts and sanding, it starts taking shape and now it’s time to cut the cover….
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05887.JPG
The cut has been made obviously with the Dremel, and the cover frames with all the other L profiles in the base… Everything fits millimetrically…

Wow looking like you can win this bet. I haven't looked at this in a while and I must say I am throughly impressed.
rigormortem
05-23-2007, 08:46 AM
I suppose that I have already win this bet, the major issue was the rad placement and the free space from the the rad to the vid card :-]
Not it's time to mod more the usb ports, then the wc setup need to be done!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05790.JPG
With this tool (I don't know the name in english, can someone help me?) I've secured the cable to the molex then I used a lot of heat shrink tubing to insulate all...
Now I need to build the box for the hub.
the english name for this tool is a "wire crimper/ stripper"

Tnx a lot for the comments and for the translation!
First fitting test:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05888.JPG
There are still a lot of things to do, but this is what i had in mind…
First modify: the usb ports support must be cutted to permict the memory reader’s cable pass through:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05889.JPG
The cable seems to be straight, but it’s an illusion! Here’s the trick:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05890.JPG
On the cable there’s the anti-disturb ferrite cylinder, so I hide it under the L profile of the usb ports, and it fits in nicely…
rigormortem
05-24-2007, 09:52 AM
Now it’s time for polishing, i already know that i won’t obtain a perfect result but never surrender:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05895.JPG
How you can see there’s difference of reflection, on the left there’s the steel piece of the Cabe, on the right there’s my polished aluminium piece, not that orrible but not comparable to the original piece of the Cabe. I will decide if to leave it as it is, or cover it with some mirror DC-Fix vinyl.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05897.JPG
After cutting the leaning out pieces of the usb ports’ bracket, I’ve mounted all and it’s like I wished it!

I buy the passive rad, but I wish i have some space for a lathe or for a mill...
But here the free space is equal to zero... or less...
Tnx for the comments, they are the fuel for my mod!
Let’s give a look to a nice thing that Roby has given to me to be tested…
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05956.JPG
Leds…
High Intensity…
3mm Height…
White…
Osram Brand…
On biadesive ribbon 3M…
COOOOL!!!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05959.JPG
I’d say that their effect is marvellous…
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05961.JPG
Here’s where I’d like to place them, but there are still a couple of things to be revisited…
These are the white light model, 5 leds every 10 cm, but alimented at 24v.
There are also the ones with more space from led to led, till the model that has 1 led every 10 cm, they’re divisible in strips with the only use of a scissor, but there’s something cooler…
There are also models alimented at 12v, and there’s also the RGB version, that can change colour by choosing from an infinite palette, and this model can be piloted through USB, so my USB port that actually is not in use should be used for that aim.
Actually I still dunno the right price, but I should know something soon.
Any comments?

Here’s another add to my project:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05974.JPG
A K5 Keops to liquid cool also the mobo chipset… Obviously it’s Italian! But copper in this project doesn’t seems to fit well, so I’ll take it into pieces:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05977.JPG
The staff that you can see is made of stainless steel, but the screw holes are for screw at maximum M3, so I will have to modify them…
And now obviously to the chrome workshop!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06008.JPG
Oh yeah, now I like it, and more than all I like the fact that it has been made for free!

http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06011.JPG
The base hasn’t been sand finished before chroming, and luckily there’s no sign of the production machinery. Great!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06012.JPG
Here’s how it should be placed, but now I’ll take apart the mobo and mount the waterblock on it, so I could finally cut the pipe to make the first tests!

Before everything i want to make some test to take confidence with the compression fittings, the corner ones and the straight ones just arrived thanks to Picio:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05847.JPG
For the corner fittings there has been no problem, instead the straight ones are just a bit harder to be inserted, and I want to see if they sign the pipe:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05849.JPG
As I could imagine they signed the pipe! After some meditation, like preparing some plexy washer to obtain a certain thickness, I opted to use some O-rings that luckily I had in big quantity…
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05852.JPG
I hope you can see it… Now the pipe won’t be signed and let’s see if there will be some liquid loss…
Looking amazing, fair play for getting all that lot in!

+rep means he is adding to your reputation. See the green box you have, and how everyone has green boxes? That shows your reputation. The more boxes the higher your reputation, and Drew liked your work on the case, so he clicked the black icon at the bottom of your post, and added points to your rep.

http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05963.JPG
Great, it works!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06054.JPG
To fix the pump to the mobo tray i'm gonna use this material that is kinda of velcro but with better holding qualities. It also reduces vibrations and a simplier removal of the pump in case of manutention.
rigormortem
05-31-2007, 10:58 AM
Let's go back to the usb ports...
It's time to prepare some cables that will carry the signal from the motherboard usb to the box i'm gonna make...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05905.JPG
This is an old rack connector that has been sleeved, this is my wiring idea:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05907.JPG
Obviously i havent straight pin strip, but i will buy them today... Here's how i think to hold the cables of the 4 usb ports that go from the mobo to the box:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05908.JPG
Nothing else than O-rings and pipes... Obviously black as all the other plastic components of the Cabe... And then will come the boring part... mapping all the cables...
rigormortem
05-31-2007, 11:01 AM
I didn't like that much the idea of the memory reader in that position, so i've decided to leave it away from there... So now i've to place there the usb-hub instead of it, but there are some modifies to be done too...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05985.JPG
In the meanwhile i've bought some pin-strip with a double lenght than the traditional, and by compriming them i've obtained a strip with standard lenght from a side and on the opposite a longer one, thing that will make ironing simplier...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05989.JPG
Then i've ironed all the pin-strip to the wires that come from the mobo by signing with a bend the red pin of all the connectors.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC05992.JPG
And i've made the same thing with the internal usb-hub, and this is the wiring i'm thinking about...
Four usb on the mobo, ok?
Two will be placed on the fron ports, onw to the internal usb-hub and one free.
The four internal usb-hub ports will link the four ports of the ali.
The one that will remain free may be will be used for a bluetooth-key, but it's still all to be decided...
rigormortem
06-02-2007, 01:47 AM
Let's test if everything still works:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06019.JPG
Everything has gone well, now i will isolate it:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06020.JPG
Strip of adesive neoprene 15mm thick ( i think i won't risk shortcircuits :-] )
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06023.JPG
And here is where it will be placed. It's more logical than having the usb-hub external...
But the ferrite dongle on the connector is boring me...
rigormortem
06-02-2007, 01:49 AM
Let's take apart the ferrite...
After cutting the plastic here it is the ferrite:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06025.JPG
Light shot with an hammer:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06026.JPG
And now the cable is free, but i've to change the screws to the 4 ports because they touch a bit...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06028.JPG
And here we go...
rigormortem
06-02-2007, 01:50 AM

http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06030.JPG
I'd say perfect!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06031.JPG
Note the reflection of the stainless steel ... btw now everything is ok and i just have to prolong it under the mobo to the rear..
rigormortem
06-02-2007, 05:51 PM
Let's work on this piece...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06033.JPG
For first thing i've signed on a paper tape the shape that the piece will have, it will be placed between the base and the front of the Cabe. One side will be on the motherboard rack, and the other on the extractible rack of the periferics.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06036.JPG
I hope you've understood thanks to the picture... Btw after cutting the piece that i've designed before with the pencil, with a diamond disk, i've reduced the lenght like you can see here:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06038.JPG
Now it's time to make the hole for the female Usb...

The final placement :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06121.JPG
Ok, a washer go down to the tray side, one on the top and the screw is fastened! Perfect for me!
Now I need to do the same work for the chipset screw, and che gpu screws, but tapped M3 :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06125.JPG
Ok, now the muonting phase :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06130.JPG
Shaked picture... Sorry... The bit PITA was the mess of capacitors and small smd components around the chipset, I filed down near all the washers, but now they fit perfectly!

Sat cable connectors and black tubing. Tnx to _eEnmaSs_ to suggest me this solution.
If you take a closer look, you'll see that all the holes on the mb near the cpu are closed with four screws, I can't resist to use that!

Let's go back to the hard disk ...
As someone have supposed, I don't stop to only liquid cooling...
Now take a look to what is arrived to my home today :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06014.JPG
A big amount of old p2 dissipator :-]
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06015.JPG
Only 113 pieces, big amount, little price : 27 euros shipping included, less than 24ct each one!
But I need to say a big tnx to Tursas with his HedgeBox project fot the inspiration!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06135.JPG
I was thinking to use 3 of this and to fix with two sided thermal tape.
Mmm, I wil try to use the Chomerics Thermattach® T411, or do you suggest the 412 model?
only problem i see is the little hole in the top that you arent supposed to cover on the hard drive...
if you do itll cause it to burn up

After a lot of waiting, the crucial pieces of this mod are arrived :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06169.JPG
Now I have a little trouble, I need an adaptor! Let's take a look at this comparision :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06173.JPG
Some centimeter less in width :-]
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06176.JPG
This is the ideal position, but now I need to cut a little bit the hard disk cage...
rigormortem
07-03-2007, 10:36 AM
After a quick pass with Dremel and 409 disk here is the lightened cage :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06184.JPG
As you can see, I've also cutted one of the flip from the 5,25 hole, I want to take out easy the hard disk tray!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06186.JPG
A little test to see if everythings fit, I suppose that this will work....
But from the front?
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06188.JPG
Ok, and now let's go with the rear side...
rigormortem
07-03-2007, 10:38 AM
Here is the free space that I have :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06189.JPG
Mmm, this is really tight fit, and I need to mount even the adaptor, the ide cable and the power cable...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06192.JPG
Finally even the adaptor are arrived, they cost a lot! Drive with adapter mounted :

Final test :

All the cable are in place, now let's do the final mockup with the two drives :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06203.JPG
After changing place to a connector, everything is ok, but I have less space thet I've imaginated... But now I have a big PITA....
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06205.JPG
The optical drives are only MASTER , no chanche to configure as slave...
So I need to use two ide channel, and I don't want to set the tow optical device as master and the two hard disk as slave. I must change my hard disk, searching for a SATA drives.
The boy 4rm oz

rigormortem
07-06-2007, 11:27 AM
I hope so!
Now I must wait to gain some money to change the hard disk...
In the meantime I've decided to change some little items in psu :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06219.JPG
I want to change the original fan with a chromed fan... But , I want to make a little test, let's take a look on how to bring out the VDE and the switch :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06220.JPG
Looking to the internal cable :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06221.JPG
I need to to do a little soldering/desoldering work, let's start!
rigormortem
07-06-2007, 11:31 AM
My idea is to create some prolongue between VDE and the switch, so I can put in place everything without soldering...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06222.JPG
I've choose to use the faston connector :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06224.JPG
Here is the first faston on place, now let's go with the other pieces :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06227.JPG
Here is the first piece, between VDE and switch, now I have to do the other end of VDE.
rigormortem
07-06-2007, 11:31 AM
Here is the final (blur) pics :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06229.JPG

But the next step is to chrome the psu chassis...

More little items :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06316.JPG
Two pieces of Thermattach T411 from www.Microcool.it, I'll use to join the passive P2 heat spreader to the hard disk. This tape consists of a high bond strength pressure-sensitive adhesive with an expanded aluminum mesh carrier layer. The mesh carrier allows the tape to conform to curved surfaces of plastic molded IC packages, continued providing a high adhesive strength attachment for heat sinks. The high per-formance silicone PSA allows adhesion to silicone-contaminated plastics and other low energy surfaces.

This is the board that I'm in love with! DFI Infinity P965 Dark, a real good looking board! This board is bigger than my old one, so I need to change the pump position. Finally, I must change my plans for the optical drive because I have only one ide connector...

Very very neat design :) The original case is beautiful and the way you made it better is also amazing. Keep up the original work and rest assured once you finish up the case, comments will appear (tons and tons of pages ;) ). For the PSU to look better, if you didn't do it before, a paint stripping and a nice several hour sanding and cleaning the metal will make for a better support for the chrome.. I bet you can make it look just the way you wanted, of course, with a bit more time and euros ;)
Good luck!
Great Job on this project thus far. I agree with you on the PSU, it definitely needs to be shiny like the rest of the chrome.
+rep 4 you. Can't wait to see it finished

Tnx a lot , boys!
The rep is important for me, I'm a newbie on this forum , so, belive in me, it's really important for my ego :-)
For the PSU, I've found a solution, now I've ordered some sheet of copper to cover the psu, then I'll chrome the copper. I've tried to clean at my best the psu, then I give it to the crome guys that have cleaned well, but the result is really poor... So I've decided to cheat with the copper sheet ...
The Cabe is an Italian product and design, the mand that produce this (for me ) beatiful case don't have the necessary money to produce a lot of this and to export overseas, but now, with the new release (that will be ready in semptember) I hope he can export this beautiful piece of hardware. Now he's going to produce a cnc for modders, at 400/450 euros maximum. I hope he can do that, a little cnc Dremel-based will be a good new tool in my lab :-)
Some shopping from my favourite shop :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06279.JPG
Scrap alu pieces, 10 euros all the pieces :-)
Now it's the time to take some measure for the optical drive box :

3M Dual Lock, I love it!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06288.JPG
This is the side, you can see the two red stripes, they are the protection for the double sided tape that I use, it'an other 3m products, it cost a lot, near 6 euros for 2 meters..
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06290.JPG
A little question...
Nobody is wandering why the relative position of the two drives is so important? It's to fix in place the original bay cover!
rigormortem
07-25-2007, 04:45 PM
First of all, 3 U-shaped pieces of alu, 8mm each side:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06298.JPG
Some holes, tapped to M4 only from one side...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06302.JPG
The other side, more holes, but this time tapped M3 like the original screw of the bay cover. One last work is missing, the polishing!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06303.JPG
It's not good, but I can polish more in future, this part will be recessed, so I don't care a lot now...
rigormortem
07-25-2007, 04:46 PM
Let's go on to the box :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06306.JPG
the lower angle are in alu, 3cm each side, the top ones are 2cm, the overall height will be 5 cm and 2 mm, for the base and the top..
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06308.JPG
The top... I've managed to obtain a quick opening method, so I've used normal M4 stainless steel screws :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06310.JPG
Not so bad, now I have to polish it, but will be the work for next modding session!

I've used some floppy cable from old psu and I've crimped to a male molex connector :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06333.JPG
I've used 3 connector, two for the drives, and one for the IDE to SATA card, I hope to put even this card inside the OptiBox.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06336.JPG
Here is the final result!

And now, let's go to the PITA part of this box, the real free space that I have...

This is the way I want to use it :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06434.JPG
I've also tested the slim dvd to ide adaptor thay I buy from Hong Konk, it cost me less than the 1/5 than the one that I buy here in italy :-(I suppose that the big trouble will be the SATA cable, and even the floppy cable for the SATA card..
I have even a little trouble : the converter is too hight! But now I must test if it work!

YEAH!!! It work, but now I need to work on a little bit...
rigormortem
08-04-2007, 01:40 AM
The two adapter that I have :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06445.JPG
On the top the Hong Kong one, as you can see the IDE pinout is not the same, they are mirrored. The center pin is in the top row in one adapter, in the other is in the bottom row...
I hope to have some lucky putting the SATA card on the bottom dvd drive...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06447.JPG
It fit perfect! And I have even the space to power up the upper drive!
I'm happy, I've 0.01 millimeters of free space between the SATA card and the power plug :-)
I have to say a big tnx to _FAX_ for giving me the SATA 90° cable, without this cable I was unable to mount all!

Taking apart the original thermo pad :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06276.JPG
A scraper, a simple scraper...
In future I must polish with 1200 grit sandpaper but... Now I have some free time!
rigormortem
08-06-2007, 06:20 PM
I've polished one heat spreader by hand in about 1 hour of work...
Then I realized that I can use the vertical drill with some items attached...
The final result and comparision is here :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06403.JPG
To the left side, drill polish, to the right, hand polish...
Ok, drilled heat spreader is ugly, but I've saved 50 minutes, now in 10 minutes using 1200 grit sandpaper and a little bit of polish I obtain the same result....
If you want to see the polish video using a vertical drill, here are the links :

Now the final part, the placement, as you can see I've used a piece f plexy like a guide for the side :

It seem it's not so bad...

Let's begin with a scrap piece of alu, 0.8mm tickness
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06458.JPG
This is the near perfect measure, for two 40mm fans. Let's do some hole :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06459.JPG
the alu is a little bit bent, but for this reason i do some test before the final piece... This is the tool that I use :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06455.JPG
Can anyone suggest me the correct name in english?
Jim Beam
09-03-2007, 02:02 AM
that would be an Adjustable Hole Cutter. Neat tool never used one before but I just ordered one after seeing that.

Let's continue with the fans support :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06543.JPG
Two scrap pieces of alu, I must polish it!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06545.JPG
And now, the holes:
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06547.JPG
I've decided to prepare two pieces in one time...

Here are the choosen fans :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06557.JPG
Manufactured from Titan, specification :
Model : TFD-4010M12B
Voltage : 12V
Ampere : 0.07A
Power consumption W : 0.84W
Speed : 5000 RPM
CFM : 4.93 CFM
dB : 21DB
Dimension : 40mm
Height : 10mm
I know, a little bit noisy, I would like to have the 20mm model, but won't fit at all...
Preparing the fans :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06560.JPG
This tape gives the best result if is clamped in sme way, so I've clamped!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06562.JPG
After 4 hours of wait I'm ready to continue!
rigormortem
09-10-2007, 11:24 AM
First test :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06563.JPG
Ok, I'm quite satisfied!
Here is a little add on for the fans :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06567.JPG
It's a cooling extender, this can help the system temps to go down at the shout off .
When I switch off the pc, this little extender will prolongue the fan action for 5 minutes, switching the 12v to 5v. As you can see, the 5v are taken from the psu +5 with a supplied connector, that I don't use :-)
I've picked up 3 of this devide, 2 for the hard disk, one for the rad fans, each device can drive 2 fans.
Working on Titan coolerhttp://frame.revver.com/frame/170x128/373049.jpg (http://one.revver.com/watch/373049)

I looked at getting one of those but I thought it would be just something to hide away in a corner of my case. I am interested to see how well they work. The fan covers look awesome by the way, great work, keep it up.
rigormortem
09-16-2007, 05:56 PM
Even I hide this little "dongle" at the rear of the hard disk, but can be even interesting adding a front bay with the led and all the connectors for the fans on the rear...
Just an idea...
Now that I've tested all, let's do more :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06571.JPG
And now, the power lines :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06573.JPG
Two original cables was cutted in half to give power to 2 device, on the right you can see the two cables for the rad fans... Let's crimp all toghether :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06576.JPG
It's ready! now, you remember the usb hub that goes under the psu? the molex used have the 12v pins free, so I reuse this connector, less molex and cables around :-)
Finally, the two hard disk :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06578.JPG
Now I have to think about whent I have to change the disk or pull out the disk tray... I need a long piece of tubing...
But I'm in pain, if the tube get shrinked? I've at home this springs, so I can use in my mod :-)
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06579.JPG
Let's take a look with the spring attached...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06581.JPG
It's ok! But taking apart the mobo tray you can see the mess :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06589.JPG
Now the hard disk part of this project is ready, let's continue with more pieces :-)
i like the projekt alot and im sry that i havent said this before, and im not sure if you know it already.
with that perticulary harddrive watercooling device, you should put thermal pasta in between the hdd and the cobber coolerblok (the grey thing that you also have put onto the cpu and cpu cooler:P)
this vil dramaticly increase the effeciency of the coolers:)... saw a test were the result was about 5-10C :O tryid to find the test but could not.
but as i said i dont know if you already have done this:D
otherwise +rep for the tight fits!
rigormortem
09-17-2007, 10:04 AM
Opps...
Forgot to take the pics, but I've used the Artic Silver between the hard disk and the waterblock :-)
and yes, this will increase the thermal distribution!
Little preview of what is on the road to my home :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/mosfet3.jpg
The famous waterblock for the mosfet for my DFI! they are made in pure copper, created on my measure, because nobody have this kind of waterblock in shop... So I've asked to Lunasio if he can do this work... Really a kind person!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/mosfet4.jpg
The base of the waterblock, non so bad! Consider that are in a "working" phase, as soon the arrive here I'll do some polishing job, that I'll give to the chrome guy...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/mosfet5.jpg
The joining between the top and the base, hand soldered, this need some hard polishing to make it invisible! I need even to make the mounting holes , but it's not a trouble!
Really tnx to Lunasio, www.lunasio-cooling.com

Little trouble on my way : the chipset hheat spreader is locked in place with a spring, no holes to secure the waterblock :-(
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06337.JPG
Not so easy to plan how to do....
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06338.JPG
After talking to some friends, I've decided to reuse the original spring :

Now it's the time to work on the pump and on the reservoir.
The new mobo is bigger than the previous ASrock, so I have to find a new place for the pump... First solution :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06483.JPG
Let's prepare something to keep the reservoir in place :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06486.JPG
L shaped alluminium, 3cm and 2cm in size, pvc tubing and here is the first prototype :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06487.JPG

09-30-2007, 10:52 AM
Here is the place where I put this piece :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06488.JPG
On the top I've placed a little plate of alu, to give a bigger base to the raservoir :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06490.JPG
Ok, res in place, and the pump?
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06494.JPG
Seems ok...
But in this position the mobo tray won't fit at all!
Oh, my god....
rigormortem
09-30-2007, 10:53 AM
Solution?
Exchanging the top with the new one from OCLabs!
Here is the vid of the entire process :
http://frame.revver.com/frame/170x128/364653.jpg Top exchange (http://one.revver.com/watch/364653)
After the sostitution here is the clearance between the mobo tray and the pump :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06503.JPG
Do you think I'm lucky?
Even I :-)
Pump and res in place :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06504.JPG
Not so much free space, but now I can have the pump and the res not so distant...
More up to come, I've to try a new position...

Did you test the pump? I wanna buy one like that and I'll be using it in a tight space too.. not that tight, but I was wondering about the noise characteristics.. I wanna make my system as silent as possible and right now the pump is a bit noisy.. so are the fans, but those are easier to change.. :)
Also, project is coming along great! +rep
rigormortem
10-02-2007, 11:02 AM
I've tested with the original top (too noisy for me) the XP and the new top from OCLabs, with the new top the pump is really silent , trust in me!
Keep always in mind that the air bubbles are responsable of the noise!
Tnx to watch this log!

Trust in me, the pump with the new OCLabs top is really silent, even two friend have changed the top and reported me that now the pump is like a whisper...
To gain some free space, I've cutted a little piece from the Cabe , here is another mockup of the pump :

Tnx to Vecchiop a week ago are arrived the big spacer for the fan/rad mounting :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06506.JPG
Two different size, one is 8mm little than the other, so I have the right space for the M4 screw. The main concept is this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06241.JPG
But having two size, the finished design is this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06508.JPG

Mounted in place :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06509.JPG
In this way the screws works better than the old release, they are embedded in a sort of binary and the joint is stronger!
So I told to VecchioP to do the real pieces, in two days they arrived here :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06554.JPG
This is the raw piece, I need to sanding a lot this baby, but will be a really time consuming task, it's stainless steel...

A big thanks fly out to VecchioP, be sure to check his worklog !

Even using this big spacer I've a trouble, a major trouble :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06601.JPG
The rad can't be rotated, it touch the ram...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06605.JPG
Whitout the spacer everything fit ok, so I'll use the spacer only for the rear rad, but I don't see any other solution...
Maybe cutting the ram... :-)
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06606.JPG
This is the rad from the outside of the case...
I'm a lucky man, really lucky!

rigormortem
10-09-2007, 06:58 PM
At this point, cutting the ram is only the last solution...

Until the end of the test, I must work to the mini tank...
Sacrifical tank, for free from _FAX_ , let's start by tapping the filling hole to 1/4GAS :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06721.JPG
Two more holes, tapped 1/4GAS :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06724.JPG
This is the main idea of the placement :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06726.JPG
I was insipred by the ideas of Nikos, the OcLabs guy, this is his product :
http://www.oclabs.com/res/articles/1329/xpresproto.jpg
I suppose that some modder will pick up this res, it's really interesting!
You can download even a video from here (http://www.oclabs.com/pfocus.php?docid=1334) , it's amazing!
Now that the test are ok, I do the same work on my res .
This is a close up of the tapping :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06731.JPG
As Cheapskate told in his worklog, I've used some vasel grease to let the tapping go well, it's really useful!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06735.JPG
In place, but without the connector ...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06742.JPG
I suppose it's ok for me!
And for you?

Wow, this is one complicated mod, I can't wait to see the results. Love the remote idea!

Lots of guys love the remote idea, I suppose that Domy15 gave us a super big new idea!
Really, tnx a lot, Domy!
Let's place some tubing :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06739.JPG
Mosfet :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06750.JPG
And more tubing :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06751.JPG
It's like a jungle inside here!
Going on with tubing :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06752.JPG
Now the last piece of tube is the main tube, the one that go from the pump to the top mosfet block, but I want to do a test to see if the pump can work with this tube in place :
http://frame.revver.com/frame/170x128/431466.jpg Testing the pump (http://one.revver.com/watch/431466)
Ok, it works, so it's time to connect the last piece of Tygon...
May we try the rig? (poor light condition, sorry)
http://frame.revver.com/frame/170x128/431474.jpg Last filling (poor light condition, sorry) (http://one.revver.com/watch/431474)
Ok, it work! So, now I won the bet with Antanio!
LOL
It's about 1 year that I want to write this phrases extracted from the CaBe forum :
antanio : nessuno ci fa stare il liquido perchè non ci sta (translation : nobody is able to put liquid inside because it won't fit at all)
F1R3BL4D3 : Integrato è impossibile! (translation : integrated is impossible!)
febrone : il liquido nn c'entra .... (translation : liquid won't fit )
A big tnx fly out to F1R3BL4D3 because the name of this project is inspirated by his comment...

Now that I show to all that the Liquid CaBe is possible, and it's real, let's tale a closer look at the flow of the water in the res :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06756.JPG
Ok, it works well! Now, I've told to someone that I want a lcd display inside this case... I've choosen a little one :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06758.JPG
Alphacool, graphic lcd, 240*128 pixel, blue light, usb link, 100 euros used...illuminato blu, connessione usb, bella bestia!
First, take apart the frame :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06761.JPG
Perfect! Now I have only to fabricate something to hold it in place...
See you soon!

Gets more and more stuffed. Really impressive! +Rep
I think I would have gone crazy already if I had so little space in my case...
Keep on!
rigormortem
11-21-2007, 02:28 PM
I'm going crazy with zero free space inside, trust in me :-)
Last week I was on holiday, so I pick up my wife and the dog and went in Trentino.
Beatiful landscape, beautiful people and good food :-)
We have even the opportunity to meet one of my idols, G69T, and the opportunity to take a look to his workshop...
Amazing!
He even gave us a piece of his Dark Blade, I'm really proud of this piece, is part of myth!
Im future I will put some pics of the meeting, if you like to see more...
Anyway, go on with the mod!
Raw cardboard model :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06764.JPG
Same design, but in a piece of alu :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06810.JPG
I've tried a new way to bend alu, because I need a 45° angle...
Let's use the Dremel with this bit :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06811.JPG
My idea is to trace a line in the alu, really tick, about 2/10mm that allow me to bend it easy...
Here is the line traced :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06813.JPG
Now I have only to bend it...
Not so easy, I've used two school rulers (ok, the word is incorrect, I know...) to help me to reach the correct bend :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06820.JPG
The angle is perfect, I'm really happy with this way of bending!
rigormortem
11-21-2007, 02:39 PM
First test :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06821.JPG
Not perfect, but it can go well...
Now let's take some more measure with the lcd display :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06829.JPG
Now let's cut with the electric saw :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06831.JPG
More work with the file, but I'm on the right way :-)
Now it's the sponsor time!
I would like to say a big tnx to every sponsor that help me to make this mod real and not only in my mind... I've prepared a big sticker with all the logos to place inside the CaBe, here is how I've picked up the right measure :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06808.JPG
I must say a big tnx to Dual, LaFelpa and Ettina , I hate Illustrator and they have spent some time to redraw all the logos in AI for me...
First placement test :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06823.JPG
After the test, the stick on phase!
rigormortem
11-21-2007, 02:47 PM
After a good cleaning of the surface, I'm ready to stick it, but I need some ingredients :
Xacto knife, spatula and soapy water :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06822.JPG
A big amount of soapy water :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06824.JPG
Placing the sticker :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06825.JPG
Now with the help of the soapy water you can place the sticker in the place that you like :-)
Taking off the water with the spatula :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06826.JPG
Take a good care to use a piece of protective paper on the spatula, and gently press the sticker to pull out the soapy water.
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06827.JPG
Side view and top view :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06828.JPG
Now the sticker must dry for at least 24 hours...
See you soon!
this mod sure should have been imposible:D amazing work dude!
the stickers might be a bit visible in the edges though:/

Tnx a lot for the comments, I'm a little bit embarassed..
Now it's time to put the lcd panel in place :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06834.JPG
It fit ok, but I need to polish it!
First, a quick use of CFG, high grit polish :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06835.JPG
Then a long use of Iosso :-)
After the last use of Iosso with my banchdrill, I've used some cotton by hand, here is the result :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06840.JPG
Not so bad, but I can do more...
The borders are horrbile!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06841.JPG
Self adhesive protective borders for car doors, like the C-trim , but less flexible and more cheaper!
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06843.JPG
Display cabling :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06842.JPG
I have room for the two usb key that I want to use...
This is a little add-on :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06748.JPG
It's the AcRyan Backy, a bracket with a molex, a ESATA plug and a fan-type plug, I won this on the MoM contest, so I want to show it :-)
Cleaning the floor I found this scrap piece :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06832.JPG
I hate to throw it away, so ...
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06833.JPG
Not the best, but with a piece of T411 I've glued it in place and for the moment I keep this piece in, but in future I suppose to remove it...

Last works, I need something to help me to fill the loop :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06844.JPG
This is a Thermaltake spare parts from my bin, it's an adaptor from 6mm to 9mm, this is what I was looking at! I hold it in place using a o-ring joined to a spring.
Now let's plug all the mess : usb, power, reset, led, backy and so on :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC06846.JPG
I suppose that everytinh is in place, some more pics :

Long time is passed...
In the maentime I've maged to go to G69T home to see the Dark Blade and talk about modding ...
He is showing an extra piece of the tak "fins" on the side :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/100_2756.jpg
And then he gave me like a gift :-)

I'm a little bit happy :

Really cool mod, and really cool guys, but this is not the thread of the Dark Blade, this post is only to show you that I'm alive, and between some days I'll show you some big-little modding to my mod :-)

Tnx a lot for the comments!
It was a long time that I don't update this thread...
Sorry guys, but real world stuff hit me...
Now I'm near the end of this modding, do you want to follow me again?
The motherboard was dead, so here is a new mobo and the liquid loop on the table :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07229.JPG
At this time, I need to take out even the psu and the optical drive :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07244.JPG
And the hard disks? Take apart...
I need to improve this mod, I need more room :-)
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07245.JPG
As I used the space is not bad, but it's not really good, so I manage to have a better space occupation :-)
At the first time I was wandering to have the disk in this way ::
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07247.JPG
The bit trouble was that thay touch with the psu connectors, driving me to use angled joints for the water loop.
The second idea is this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07248.JPG
Using this disposition I can mova one of the two optical drive, and have a free 5and1/4 bay. This can allow me to use a normal size dvd :-)
rigormortem
02-07-2008, 10:33 AM
But I need to take a closer look at the height, because the straight water connector can touch the motherboard plate...
To gain some millimeters I've decided to take apart the Ma.Er. screw support :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07249.JPG
Without this little piece of alu I've gained 2cm of space, not bad!
At this time, this will be the definitive setup :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07251.JPG
The original soldered screw don't allow me to put in place the slim dvd, so I've removed quickly :-)
This is the free space between the two hard disks :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07255.JPG
The alu bar is 15mm plus the two velcro strip to hold it in place and allow me to take apart the drives without screws.
The fixing part begins :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07261.JPG
After 30 minutes of works, it's the time to see if this solution is ok, but I need to wait 24 hours because the adhesive reach his maximum potential.
After 24 hours /to tell you the truth, 27 hours) here is :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07264.JPG
Ok, the hard disks goes out quickly and they are firmly in place.
rigormortem
02-07-2008, 10:36 AM
Now I want to change the gpu waterblock retention screws :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07296.JPG
I want to use a single bracket instead of the double, take apart the springs and cover the screws with some black tubing, now I like it more!
I forgot to order some ram heatsink, but I have on my desk this :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07297.JPG
Let's cut it!
A quick deblurring with a file and here we go :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07299.JPG
Some T411 adhesive and they hare in place :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07300.JPG
And now even the videocard is ready. After moving all the waterblocks to the new motherboard, first quick test :
http://www.italiamodding.it/rigor/impossible/DSC07301.JPG
Ok, now I can add all the waterblock...
Boring task... So boring....
At this time, I stop here, some comments?
nothing worse than a compact mod where a vital part dosnt work:/... but keep it up!... its a very nice mod m8:D
