Hi, I'm new

So I've been thinking about getting deeper into computer modding for some time. It's just been a case of motivation and finding a good starting point.

I live in Brighton in the UK and alot of the people I hang out with have an obsession with this retro 50's thing that's going on at the moment.

Then this weekend I found a radio at the sunday market for a staggering £2.70

This is not the actual radio but it's similar.
My only digital camera at the moment is on my phone... it's a bit rubbish.

so obviously I grabbed it before some french guy had a chance to.

I know Mashie http://www.mashie.org/casemods/anemone1.html has done a classic radio mod before but i'm going to try and keep the radio looking as original as possible.

That's pretty much it for the moment.
Just a hello and a statment of intent.
If anyone has any tips for cutting/cleaning bakelite or anything else that may help that'd be cool.

Welcome to TBCS!

That looks like a cool mod, nice and classic! You should try to get some way to post good quality digital photos before you get your worklog going so we can see what you are talking about while you work. Any answers you get from us about your project will be based mostly on what we can see, so it's important. You can get some fairly cheap dig cams online now or maybe borrow one from a friend. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

hmm i like the idea sounds cool only problem but it looks sorta small are you gonna have trouble sticking all the parts in? maybe an external cooling system could help you there to give jut that bit more room.

also id love to see those buttons get incorpuwated with the pc would look top notch. that front panel looks like its got lots of potential to.

well good luck with the mod id love to do a stealth mod once i get a bit better with computers.

Before you go modding you might want to look the radio up. I was watching the antiques roadshow and some of those old tube radios are worth some real money.

How big is it could you fit a Micro atx in there?

Then use that money to mod with!

If its not worth anything, then that thing is going to make one sweet looking mod!

Right, I got my camera phone to actually work now.
Here's a pic of the actual Radio

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/mrman991/DSC00040.jpg

It's pretty big and should easily fit in the following :-
Tagan TG330-U01 330W ATX Silent PSU
Abit NF-M2S Micro ATX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz (Socket AM2)
40gb Hdd

I'm only going to be using it for a media PC and I'm aiming at spending no more than £200.

For the dials as one is missing, I'm going to remove them and hopefully find some decent brass buttons.

When I got it home I checked to see if it was worth anything and it didn't appear to be worth bupkus. I opened it up and the insides were trashed.
Even if it is worth thousands then Kayserah, it's been gutted and cleaned now.

:P

I'm going to try and get a sheet of black perspex at some point over the week and get a template of the back panel made, then double check the size of the board and weather or not it will fit with the power supply next to it.

you wanted it stealth, right. wood is cheaper, easier to work with, can be stained the right color, and can be easily glued into place. acrylic, can't.

just know your options dude.
