I had planned on building a truly awesome system this year, but unfortunately it seems my wife ended up blowing the budget on scrapbooking supplies and assorted scrapbooking paraphynalia. Anyone else a victim of scrapbooking, bad-ass-system, sabotage?

I wish my wife's purses were just 100 a pop...
For Christmas she actually paid 1400 for a friggin Louis for herself!

I bought her a fake matching wallet and check cover for 35 and they looked just as good to me, but she apparently knows the difference.

Heh heh, that's great man. I gave my brother an activity pad thing for Christmas one year and all he did was rant about how I gave him a "sheet of paper" for the next few months, lol. $1400 for a purse?!?! Wow, that'sa lotta money for something that doesn't have much function, esp. when you could get one cheaper that does pretty much the same thing, or my all time favorite: Make one yourself.

hehe You guys make me love my Wife even more than I do now! I fondly refer to her as "The Finance Minister" due to the fact she is fantastic with money! She rarely spends any money at all and never for things like scrapbooking! In fact I have to drag her to the mall to get shoes and clothes... OK so her last $$ adventure was purchasing a BC to go diving with her sister. That is her kind of expense, travel related... When it comes to computer stuff, She puts the limitation on me that if it is expensive I must sell off something first, and get rid of the item it is replacing. When it comes to my mods, so long as it does not go over $50 I just need to warn her. Anything over $50, gets budgeted in (right behind all the other _important_ purchases) and I make the purchase when it's time comes around. Now if I could just get a few things off my honey do list so that new mobo can get acquired...

Oh yes, I also call her "The Listress"...

This is why it would not be a bad idea for married couples to each set aside their own personal funds for personal hobbies. Of course this all depends on the particular situation and individual salaries.

*cough*Extra savings account*cough*

I'm a big believer in money doesn't get pooled. It makes any separation or issues like this less problematic.
Much more like roommates. Here's your half, here's mine, split the bills down the middle.
Everything else is personal and used at our discretion. This keeps hobbies, clothing, gifts, etc etc etc from being an issue.
It's also extremely hard to keep working properly, specifically after a couple of years or more.
Or if one person sucks with money and hands it off to the other.

For those who still wonder what is scrapbooking: My ex-wife is an artist for Magenta, one of many scrapbooking companies.
Here's an exemple of her work (not only the framing, but the paper itself too)

It's not just the materials that get expensive, but it's also the totes (big bags on rollers), cutting supplies, stencils, adhesives, stamps, stamp pads, etc. Oh and not to mention the weekend retreats and weekly or monthly "crops".

For those who don't know what a crop is, it's just a bunch of scrapbookers who get together to scrapbook. Some are free and some aren't.

Scrap book, to me, is misspelled. There shouldn't be an "s" on scrap. :dead:

What's wrong with people who like paper so much? They seem to encourage cutting down trees and destroying the rainforest. Those digital photo frames seem much nicer to me, especially with the possibility of a background video...not to mention it's a helluva lot easier to move.

Paper is used way too much, I think it's almost as badly used as oil.

Note to self, hide my cardboard project from Redundant.

(In actuallity I am recycling by using used cardboard)

1. People forget trees are renewable. They also forget we have more forest in the US now than 80 years ago because clear cutting without renewal is illegal.

2. If you've ever dealt with a company that uses trees to create product, they have rotating areas that grow for 10-25 yrs, gets cut down and replanted. It's not rainforest and we're not 'raping' the land. We're using trees just like we use land for crops.

3. Almost all of the paper in the US comes from the US or Canada.

4. What isn't being mentioned is that once the electronic item breaks, it's much more difficult to degrade or reuse. Paper recycling is a horribly filthy, polluting process, but if left in landfills, it degrades within a few years, just like produce.

Oh yea, scrapbooks are lame.

lol. Scrapbooking is evil. Get her into genealogy. It's cheaper, and it keeps people busier for longer periods of time. My mom's out of scrapbooking and into genealogy. We have two 3" binders to prove it.

Maybe I should get her to do "virtual" scrapbooking... Instead of using scissors and glue she can learn how to cut and paste. I've already downloaded GIMP and Sketchup, so she already has the tools for it. Hmm...

Somethings just don't make the transition to digital. I think scrapbooks are one of the things that won't.

What computers are like the most evil thing in the household short of cars and wood fired stoves. The amount of chemicals that are used to make the circuit traces are evil as sin. For example Cadmium is highly toxic and it is polluting third world countries. Also Antimony is evil to. Both are used in solders.

I hate to even suggest this but maybe you can work together and build a scrapbook theme case. A combination of both your interests.

Excuse me but now I need to find a therapist so I can find out how such an evil thought even entered my mind.
