I want a new system. I could upgrade R2D2 from it's 3.2GHz P4 EE or I can build a new system. What should I do?

The specs I'm thinking about:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
2GB PC2-800
500GB HD
2 x NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS in SLI
Something, something, something....

If your planning on modding this new PC, I say take that road. But if your gonna just throw this new system into a prebuilt box, then upgrade the R2D2.

Whats better than one mod? Two mods! That's just my way of thinking though. R2D2 isn't my mod, so I have no attachment to it really. If it WAS my mod? I would probably upgrade it. Unless of course, I had something sweet in mind for a new system.

isn't your R2 phase change or is that someone elses? If so just keep the R2 box and replace the internals

er...NO

Doesn't the 8800 have DX10? And you need Vista for DX10? I am not going to Vista, probably never ever.

Also, I may get the Quad FX70 instead

R2 was phase change

Problems? Or did you hijack the unit for another mod? Cos if like you don't want it anymore...i'll take it off your hands. :D

I'm sure I'll be shouted down if wrong, but the 8800GTX supports DX10 software. It also is DX9 compatible and quite happy to run with XP.

Why why why would you ever go AMD with the Core2Duo's coming down in price?

Because some people just like AMD.

I do just like AMD, and I've had 3 Intel chips die compared to the one AMD. Also I sold the phase change for $500 because it was a real pain in the ass. Half the time it never turned on at all or kicked off part way through a game forcing me to shutdown. When it did work it would often blow a fuse that I had to keep changing out in the underside of R2. A real pain to get to.

$500 is not to be sniffed at! Ach well.

This is what I went with:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800
250GB SATA HD
GeForce XFX 8800 640MB
NZXT Lexa with OCZ 600 Watt PSU :D

No modding this time!

Oooh... Thats gonna be one sexy setup!

Well since your not going to do any modding this time around, which if totally fine because I would hate to see a dremel even come near that Nzxt Lexa, you should give us some product reviews maybe?

I would definitely like to see a case review on the Lexa, as it has always been one of my personal favorites.

Any intended use for this rig TGS? or did you just get bored with some cash that was burning a hole in your pocket? ^_^

I'm getting rid of my other primary rig in my office, The Matrix. It'll be just R2 and the Lexa

I sold over $1000 in comics to pull this off.

PHEW. That must of been either a lot of comics or a few rare ones.

oh trust me, I've read every review on the Lexa out there. Just thought it would be cool to have one of the TBCS members do a case review. If only to help expand our review section. Actually, now that I think about it, it would be nice to have some more reviews done by some true blue modders. You know, people who actually know what they are talking about instead of people who just butt kiss a company just because they sent them a product to review.

If your not up to doing a review then its all cool. Just make sure to at least show us the rig when its all up and running! Pff, not like I need to tell YOU that though right? ;)

Hmmm, I should of reviewed my Blue Orb II now that I think of it. lol oh well, I'll do one when my motherboard arrives so I can throw in the installation section of the review. :)

oh yea, btw, I was going to ask. What comics did you sell?
