I'll be there as a guest of Microsoft displaying Doom 3: Project Mars City, and Project Nighthawk. I missed the show last year and can't wait to check out the crazy stuff people like us are building.

Oh yes, The Bay Area, is THE term for the San Francisco Bay, collection of cities (6 or 7 _major_ cities and a few minor ones). But it can be confusing if you have never been to this area. Just like going to Surf City USA. You will either end up in Huntington Beach (SoCal) or Santa Cruz (NorCal), although legally, you will find yourself in SoCal.

Thanks to all for the support, even if you can't make it! Cases are shipped via air ride truck by an art/exhibition handler, packed in boxes and set on a forklift pallet so they stay upright. Any other method of shipping is disaster.

Airbozo, I'm really looking forward to meeting you and having a pint or four. I'll be staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel from Friday-Sunday. Not sure where this hotel is in relation to the expo fairgrounds. I'll give you my cell # and other info when the time comes. I'll be sure to put you down as TBCS staff for the event with an all access pass. ;)

I went to an event in California for Newegg--Dante and his friend got me smashed on whiskey and beer the night before---Let me tell you the first day of the event, I had a hangover worse than I care to remember! How I managed to stay pleasant and cheerful until it wore off is beyond me. Must be on my best behavior with clients! ;)

EDIT: Just got home and had a great time helping to setup. The Doom3 mod is just incredible in person. The pictures and video's are great, but to see the detail up close and personal is pretty cool. Kind of strange to see all the high tech stuff then walk outside the building to see a human powered, mouse wheel driven, 25 foot nose picking machine. Right across the lawn from the life size game of Mouse Trap. Can't wait to see the instruments the band will be playing. I am also going to check out the power saw races.

Well as you can tell from the diminishing sentences, I am tired. I will miss the event saturday (today) since I am hosting a bbq for a friend, but will be there sunday to help out and take some more pictures (took a few last night of the setup and will post when I get up later).

It was pretty awesome. I didn't take the time to play Doom3 on Doom3, as Crimson had it set up for. Nor did I play the flight sim that was on Skunkworks, but I did see them both and get some mod ideas.

That was a blast! Got to meet the boss and some of our resident modders (Airbozo and Omega) all of which were hella-cool guys. Jimmy Kimmel made it through the building at some point. Saw so much weird technology and live performances my head was spinning. Partied with the Microsoft Team (those folks were hilarious!) and had dinner on Bill Gates. Played Doom3 on Doom3 and flight sim 4 on a triple-monitor setup... Hell, what else could you ask for?
Oh yeah, saw lots of CNC lazer and plasma cutters, and a 12' tall set of Tesla coils....bitchin!

This next set are of a cool looking 2 way projector mod. The first picture shows what is on the table. Some paper made into shapes is really all that is there. You can see in the first pic, the paper, plus some cars projected on the paper;

Which is also seen by a camera and interjected into the "game world" and the paper shapes are interpreted as obstacles in the "game world", that the vehicle has to navigate over or around. This is a shot of the monitor and what the "driver" sees;

OK and here is a picture we had one of the visitors take. All we wanted was a group shot and this guy we asked to take the picture got all "professional Photographer" on us. Took him almost 10 minutes to take 2 pictures because he was too worried with what the background was like, the color temperature, white balance and all sorts of other details. I think I shouted something like "just push the button already, my hair is getting grayer by the minute". This is what he took (from the left; Paul, Me, jdbnsn);

Yes that was the second pic he took and I was ready to snatch the camera out of his hands and let the 12 YO next to him take the shot.. In the first one I blocked out Doom3 so I tossed that one.

Hehe funny story; The wife wanted me to "dress up" with a professional button up collared shirt so I wouldn't "stand out". Her; "You don't want to make a bad impression with Paul do you?" Me; "No, that's why I am NOT dressing up... We're modders not investment bankers!"

I forgot to show you some stuff from the Faire. Among the many cool devices running there, I saw many CNC cutters and 3d printing machines. Here is a piece of wood that was printed in a 3D lazer printing machine, it measures 2" X 2.5" and took about 1 minute to print. Hope you can see how amazingly detailed it is...

Well, I've met the Woz (in atlanta months before the Maker Faire) and PC, PC was definitely the more social of the two.

But then again, at the other event, the Woz was a judge and had places to be and **** to do, whereas Paul was really just fiddling around on the computers from what I saw.
