Just thought I would throw this question out to all you guys.

What type of response do you guys and girls(if there are any of you out there) get when you mention this website or anything about modding to other people?

I for the most part get the response "NERD ALERT". I know that most people I talk to don't understand half of the stuff I'm talking about or they aren't into the whole creative aspect of things so it goes right over their heads.

I'm the type of person who has a one track mind. Once I get interested in something like a game, hobby or sometimes a single idea I can't think about anything else but that one thing. Since I've started modding that's all I'm really interested in. I mean I can have normal conversations about any topic and still do my job to the best of my ability but when it comes down to my free time or if someone asks me how I'm doing all I talk about is modding. So in a way I've isolated/alienated myself from the people in my social group. I get a little support from my wife and some friends have showed an interest but I can tell they reallly only want to see the completed project.

I would like to know if I'm alone on this or has this happened to any of you?

I've pretty much succeeded in nerding all of my friends, so it's fine now. After I built my computer, they all decided that they were going to, and computers and games are a big topic of discussion. At first they were like, "Whoa, somebody's a nerd" and I was like, "Yeah, get over it" and they had no response to that.

People question why I do these things. They don' get the point of any of it. But, they're still supportive in my modding. They don't try to stop me, just wonder why.

you gotta be a handy nerd. if your nerd skills come in handy to a few, or all of your friends they will respect the nerdiness.. they NEED the nerdiness. I know, I'm still called all the time by my high school friends because they need their computer's fixed.

Yeah, once they need something done, they're all over you. I need to get myself this shirt.

I was like that when I started modding. It is just a phase you will move through it. I still annoy the **** out of my parents by asking them questions at the dinner table like. Do you think this paint scheme will look good? or Would a blow hole look good here?

First Off, I refuse to be called a NERD..... Im a GEEK Thank you.. :p

When I mention this website I get some what of blank look from most. My girlfriend does get a small kick out of this place though. She enjoys reading the replies people give me on my BF mod but other then that she could care less. My parents, well I havent even told them about this site. I'm not on best of terms with them as they always seem to be in disagreence with anything involving computers. Oh well that life, atleast for me  .

Yeah my clostest firends know about it and when I did my CS mod a bunch of my friends where watching the process. My girlfried thinks its cool but she doesn't really care.

My parents take the approach that at least Simon isn't driving around the streets at 4am drinking and destorying mail boxes. He is safe at home playing CS or trying to get something in linux working.

That has got to be the greatest thing I've read all day.

who says people that are interested in computers are nerds? its a pretty stupid stereotype really. i think in this day and age, its a little old.

I, for one, love the surprised look on peoples faces when i tell them i can build computers, and show them some of my work. Most of my friends dont even really know i know what i do.

I've got to be probably the farthest thing from what someone normally pictures a computer nerd as. Then again, I'll admit, im not exactly the epitome of nerd anyway.

I do love being able to impress people with simple tasks though.

cheers to that...most people I know will call me a geek one minute, then ask me to fix their computer the net. I know that secretly they're jealous :lick:

People where I live are technologically impaired, I could go into Control Panel and get the little speaker icon to show up in the taskbar and they would be like "OMG!!! How is that even possible? You must be a freakin' genius! Okay, now how would I open up internet explorer?" Well, maybe not that bad, but you get the point. I tell people I that I built my computer and they think I must have gone to some fancy school or something, lol. Putting a PC together is easier than building a car, lol, not much skill needed, just general know-how and patience. :D

I'd wish that everyone were at least as good as me with computers but then I wouldn't get the little bit of praise that I do, lol, but then again, I'm not all THAT great with them... just know the basics, kinda...

i tend to get blanked by most people when i mention MODDING and PC, So meny of my mates called my a GEEK/NERD but all of a sudden were very nice when they wanted there PC fixed,

I find it ammusing when people say "OMG< You really built that, your a GENIUS"

I go by the rule, "I do it becuase i can, becuase i think it looks cool, if you don't like it, TOUGH"

i seem to get very positive responses, from friends, coworkers, family and even strangers.

im working on my first computer mod currently, and ive yet to get anything negative... most of its just confusion on why i dont go out and buy a pre-built computer. the response from me is that ive YET to find a reasonably priced computer that will run anything more than solitaire.

ive got people that want to come over and help-... i think if you show enthusiasm (as opposed to obsession) onj a project (or even the site) people will check into it-... in my girlfriends case, she doesnt know much about computers, but still thinks that the fact that im using my time to do something i like is impressive ^_^

nerds are cool man. its another categorization that people use when in the mood to "label" someone. its too bad too, cause this is one of my favorite sites now, and im guessing that people think its nerdy will detour them from coming here and enjoying it as the ART that it is :D

People sometimes ask me "what kind of computer do oyu have?" I then get them to specify what they mean by "what kind", and they then ask me what brand. I then confuse them by telling them I made my own computer.

I'm in the same boat as some of you. When I tell people I have built a few computers on my own, they think I must have some special ability or something.

I sometimes say something like "DaJe Tech". Though tere are some people who are more understanding and want to have me do things for them. They usually pay me too, so it's all good.
