I was out buying dinner the other night and while I was waiting for my order, I was standing outside the restaurant having a smoke and spied this on the menu:

(sorry about the quality, camera phone)
So is it just me, or did they miss the point about what "Vegetarian" means?

LMAO VEGETARIAN CHICKEN AND VEGETARIAN BEEF! That is possibly the dumbest menu I've ever seen!
Actually, I've done basically the same thing before. Use firm tofu as a base, soak it in broth or dissolved bouillon and use it as imitation chicken.
Not eating meat is a choice. It doesn't stop the biological craving for meat.
That's why fake burgers, sausage, bacon, etc etc exist.
mmmm...Bok Choy with tofu. Damnit, I want Vietnamese now.

Wow, someone is going to have to explain this one to me lol
Maybe its that fake crap that they SAY tastes like chicken and beef.
Btw, try fake chicken nuggets. They tastes NOTHING like chicken or nuggets, but they are damn good!

Also, I just saw your little Texarkana thing under your name...I live in Louisiana right now (only for 1 more month thank god) and I have always wondered what numbnuts came up with "Texarkana"? Seriously now...couldn't they have been a little more creative? :)

I have done lots with tofu. 2 of my favorites; Saute'd tofu and Tofu Chili. For tofu chili, freeze the Tofu and then shred it. It comes out the same texture as ground beef.
As far as the Biological urge for meat, I am not so sure about that. The wife has been a Vegetarian almost since I met her and I have never seen her have the urge for meat.

So is it just me, or did they miss the point about what "Vegetarian" means? The first time my sister visited the Philippines, we sent the maid out to get some food. My sister is a veggie, so we gave the instruction to get anything, so long as it's not meat.
She came back with liver!

If god hadn't meant us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat!

Amen brotha!
...then again, if we get hungry enough, we'll eat just about anything. lol
if people get lost in the woods up here in pine tree country, a good way to get some vitamin C is to eat pine needles. Makes a good cup of tea in the morning too. lol
People forget that humans can eat almost anything around us. Short of poisonous or damage plants and animals, our digestive tract can handle lots of different types of matter, including grasses & insects.
Some people are raised their entire lives without meat, they are few and far between, but they do exist. The reasons I keep my meat intake down is for health. I prefer game to raised, fish & poultry, nuts, beans and tofu as my sources of protein.
I like wok fried tofu if I'm making something similar to what's on the menu. 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil and a lb of drained extra firm tofu crushed works wonders as a meat substitute, just marinade it in stock for a day or two before.
I still eat meat and always will, now I'm just more focused on what I eat and how often. Having chronic digestive issues will do that to you.
On occasion I enjoy a nice porterhouse.
As for Texarkana, you have to give them a break. They live between Texas and Arkansas, they're not the sharpest tools in the shed. ;) j/k

you know... i cant get on the vegetable bandwagon. i just... hate most vegetables. tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers, celery, mushrooms... i hate them with a passion. on the other hand, i love carrots, squash, potatoes, radishes, peas, corn (as long as its not on the cob), broccoli, cauliflower, and beans.
for me its beyond that as well. if im going to be doing this bodybuilding thing, i need protein. at least 150 grams a day in fact, and meat is the easiest way to get that much. as far as i know, the only things that can come close are chick peas and soy products. chick peas are good, soy... not so much. dont like tofu at all. ill take an extra chicken breast though any day.
if a person is vegetarian because they dont like animals dying, i always say this. no matter what, cows, chickens, all those farm animals WILL keep dying because the demand is there. if you dont eat it, someone else will, so you might as well.

My SO is a vegetarian because of what meat does to her digestive system. Not because animals die. Hell every once in a while she even makes me bacon for breakfast! (plus she likes her leather shoes) Like Slug said, even if everyone on earth stopped eating meat, the cycle of life goes on... Animals eat other animals.
When in culinary school I learned a little about complex proteins. Rice by itself is not very nutricious and beans by themselves are not very nutritious, but cook them together and they form a complex protein that is VERY good for your system and easily digestible. Soy is not as easy to digest for humans. A lot of vegetarians suffer from protein deficiency due to the fact they get left out of the diet and our body needs them. The trick is to find as many complex protein foods as possible and work your diet around them. (for vegetarians anyway)
I really would have to call my SO an Ovo-Lacto-Vegetarian, since she does eat milk, cheese and eggs. No way she would ever give up my famous Roquefort Souffle!

I love me some KFC chicken that's not abused by us but the jerks at Tyson, etc. :D
I do love meat though, it would be tough for me to live as a vege because I'm prediabetic, and need the protein, it's tough to get that from vegetables... damnit, now I want some ribs...

After a week of tofu and rice in Japan the Beef burger at Mc Donald's never tasted so good. While there was seafood and other stuff it was mainly rice + tofu.
When it comes to the whole vegie thing give me barbecue ribs any day.

I really dont care if people are eithe vegetarian, veagan or none of the above. Its a choice lifestyle. People make these choices and people should respect them. What I don't agree with are the people who ram ****ing everything down peoples throat....The people that yell at people who eat meat cause THEY think its wrong. People just need to respect each other a little more.

I hear that.
People do try to ram there opinions into the parking space that is already occupied, it's annoying. Arguments these days are more or less just a "scream at each other with spit flying" fest, lol...
