Due to my recent increase of interest in the Command and Conquer series (due to C&C3), I've decided to make a casemod.
In SketchUp. Alas, I am broke.
Basically, it'll be Tiberium themed. Green UV Reactive water cooling (to look like liquid Tiberium), plenty of Tiberium Hazard signs (http://www.lotechdesigns.com/host/images/4957Tiberium_Hazard.png), and some other nifty stuff.
Ispirations come from Doom3 (The front intake, notice the doors? I got that from Doom3) and TIP3000 (the hazard stripe window thing, it'll probably also have military style toggle switches and VU meters too).
Here's what I have so far.

Thanks for looking.

One word:
W00T!!!
By the way, how was C&C 3? I may fork out or get someone to fork out the cash to get it for me, lol, if it's good, that is. C&C is one of my favorite series, minus RA2 that is... can't wait to see how this turns out, nothin' like playing Red Alert whilst listening to Rammstein, lol... I could blab about this series forever, but I'll spare you guys... for now...
EDIT: Just saw the part about it being in Sketchup, no biggie, this way it costs less and you can go back to fix stuff, eh? lol

C&C3 is ****ing phenomenal. Seriously. Compare it to Tiberian Sun, and there's no competition. The graphics are better, the units are better, the story's better, oh, and the graphics are better.
I've not done multiplayer yet.
By the way, Why don't you like RA2? It was my second fav. C&C game until C&C3 (Now It's my thrid fav., it's right after Tiberian Sun).

I had fun playing it for a while, and LOVED it over the LAN, but it was too cartoony and Hollywoodish for my liking. I like TS, but never was too good at it, damn AIs and their fancy cluster missiles, lol. I pretty much made a mod for RA, but the .ini file got lost/deleted in one of my many formats with my old craPC.
Hmm... Oblivion, or C&C3? Big decision, lol... we'll see when my birthday rolls around in June... is it annoying to multitask in like in Supreme Commander? I like the game, just not the tech level tiers, quite aggravating...
They still have the Construction Yard, right? That's what made the series what it is, lol, unlike Generals...

One-upped, even.
Remember the seperate queues for different buildings in RA2?
Now you can do that in C&C3... With everything. Except instead of making another construction yard, you make a Crane, and it adds a building queue. Meaning you can build 4 things (2 normal, 2 defense) at once.
It's pretty much awesome. Go for C&C3.
Also, I fail to see how "too hollywoodish" is a problem. Strip all the bling out of it, and you get a fundamental C&C game that's as fun as the rest. "Blow this up". "Kill their base". "Use these units this way for the most effective method". It's not very different than other C&C games on that premise.

This is awsome, I love the series. I was hoping someone would do a C&C based mod.
I actually big time mod on a C&C 3 fansite. The site also has a clan, although I am not on it. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Oh, man... just played the tutorial in the demo and I'm in love. So freakin' cool man! Now to fork out the fifty bucks to get it, lol... when I've saved up some money anyway. Everything that C&C should be. The music kicks ass like it always has too. Just remembered, I spent a buck to get five off so maybe that'll help out a little, and my grandpa's comin' back down in a few weeks, so I'll see if he won't chip in. 8) :D:D:D

Yeah, it's definately worth it. I hope to pick up my own copy (as opposed to using my dad's) soon. That'll also let me get a more serious look at the game elements as inspiration.
I gotta find the soundtrack, too. I know the C&C1, C&C:TS, C&C:RA, and C&C:RA2 soundtracks own pretty hard, but C&C3 was an EA-only project (as opposed to previous maker, Westwood studios), and the music guy is different.

Oh, and Might I add that tomorrow, I'm going to start making the mockup front bezel, for the hell of it. Since It's pretty custom, I'm doing it in Metalshop with 18 gague anodized sheet steel, and It will be to 1:1 scale.

I wish they kept the GDI Mechs, those were awesome, but I'll wait 'til there's a mod, lol.
Yeah, they didn't have Frank Klepaki (sp?) on this one, but it still sounds great... can't wait to get the full version so I can try out the Scrin, which will be cool as the alien + mechs deal is sweet, although they do look similar to the martians in War of the Worlds, but who cares, lol. But yeah, OMG the Zone Troopers are freakin' cool, along with those anti infantry guns, lol... I could go on for hours, almost...

Oh, you mean the GDI Titans?
That's okay. Juggernauts have a new, awesome ability.
They can hit anything within a Sniper Team's viewing radius. Sniper teams are stealthed. Cover the map in Sniper Teams, have a group of 10 or so Juggernauts as the back of your base, and voila, you control the map. Or put three Sniper Teams in the enemy base, put them on "Hold fire" stance, and fire away, from the safety of your own base.
Or you could, you know, use the Ion Cannon. <3

05-02-2007, 10:53 PM
I used the Ion Cannon in the tutorial and was like "holy ****, it actually killed his whole base instead of one building, wow...", lol. The Wolverines were cool too... they should have been more consistent with the units, but ah well. Are the Scrin any good? They would be cool to play as... are there walls by any chance? And gates? I mean that you can build, that would have so much pwnage if they did... GDI, NOD, the Scrin, etc.
Omega
05-02-2007, 11:36 PM
Scrin are hard to play, comparatively. But probably better overall. For instance, their anti-infantry turrets can't shoot across ravines, or up cliffs or whatever, because it doesn't actually shoot.
I'm sure there's walls and gates. Under Defense. I've never built them, though.
xRyokenx
05-02-2007, 11:52 PM
Prolly don't have them in the demo... The Scrin seem like a side I'd play as though... although, I might end up coming up with a combo of units from all sides that I'd compose my ultimate side of, lol. The NOD still have the good ol' Obelisk of Light though, correct? What anti-infantry turrets do they have, I'm curious.
Everybody thinks "*Cough* Buy the damn game already. *Cough*" lol.

NOD have "Shredder Turrets".
As with all NOD Defenses, it has a central hub with 3 turrets that can be placed in a certain radius.
The "Shredder Turret" is extremely effective. Two shots, and a whole squad is down. Basically, it's a Shotgun turret thing.
Yeah, they have the Obelisk. But the Obelisk has never really been worthwhile.

It really hasn't, but it's been their trademark defense since the Tiberian Dawn. Corny jokes aside, so you can place three different turrets from the same hub? Can somebody say "component tower remake"? lol
Depending on the size of this next paycheck I'm getting, and maybe if I get a good amount of hours towards my next one, I'll prolly get CnC 3 in a couple weeks. I still have about $300 left to pay my mom back for bail though, which sucks, esp. since I think I gave her another $50, but ah well, she's spent so much on my these past (almost) 18 years, so it doesn't hurt to give some back.
Ever play "A Path Beyond"? It's a mod for Renegade that makes it like RA, which is cool. They need a CnC 3 mod for CS:S or something now, lol... or something with vehicles...

It's not a component tower remake.
Component towers acted as the base for everything. With NOD Turrets, the hubs are weapon-specific. You can't have lasers on a shredder turret or SAM turret.

05-03-2007, 12:36 AM
Oh... makes sense, kinda... do the turrets pop out of the ground? In the tutorial I flew my Orcas over to kill his CY and about 15 SAM turrets spontaneously appeared...
Lemme add you to AIM, MSN, etc. This is ridiculous having a convo this way, lol.

I have made the two sides for the front bexen in my Metalshop class. Next week, I'll finish it.
I'm seriously debating to drop SilverDawn and plan out Tiberium and go along with Tiberium. I'd definately keep SilverDawn to resume later, but I have a plan for Tiberium so I might just do that.

I think that I'm going to scan all my concept drawings (plus the sketchup pictures) and send them to some companies to see if I can get parts.
I really want to do this mod.

Until I can acquire a base for this mod, and stock, northing's happening. Once I do, I'm putting SilverDawn on hiatus and doing Tiberium.

Non-drawn things:
Based off of Antec P150/P180 case (Probably the P150)
Should have 4-6 military-style toggle switches with green/black caution stripes for lights/fans/etc
Hopefully will have watercooling with 1/2in clear tubing & UV Green coolant
Remote start

DaveW's "TIP-3000"
b4i7's "Project Tribute"
Crimson's "Doom3: Mars City"

Lookin' quite good... can't wait to see how this turns out. You could almost get a screenshot of the game printed out on some glossy paper and put it behind clear plexi or something and somehow make it look like a computer screen.
Good luck with the sponsorships.
Oh, I may be getting a copy of CnC3 soon, so after I play a bunch of skirmishes as different sides and maybe even the campaign, we might could play over the internet or something.

Even better. Triple-monitor setup. Two 17" LCD's, one 6" in front or something.
I have a buddy who Airbrushes and would do any and all airbrushing for me. He had the idea to make it look worn and even offered to do it free of charge.
I have another buddy who has a CNC Mill, CNC Router, and CNC Plasma Cutter. Lucky bastard says he'd be able to do some stuff for me as well if I needed it. I'd rather dremel it so I could say "I did that", but if dremeling horribly fails, I'll get some CNC work done.
Man, this thread could very well be a worklog soon. I love it.

Been working on some 1:1 scale drawings for fan grilles (I have 80mm and 120mm done already) and I'm working on the dual 80mm fan grille for the top of the case.
Expect scans within the week.

I've actually been thinking of how to recolor mine. I was thinking of instead of black with a couple blue areas, I was gonna repaint it a metallic blue with a glow in the dark green Tiberium hazard symbol, and repaint the blue areas metallic green... or vise versa with the metallic colors, or should I just leave it black? Not to hijack, but what do you think I should do?
Oh, and I can't wait to see those scans, lol.

This case looks similar to a certain Gigabyte case:
Gigabyte 3D Arora (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000090007%2050001314&bop=And&CompareItemList=N82E16811233002%2CN82E16811233003% 2CN82E16811233013%2CN82E16811233001%2CN82E16811233 004%2CN82E16811233012)
They have way too many versions of that case...
Looks like a good base for your mod if you haven't alrady chosen one.
Omega
05-20-2007, 08:34 PM
That'd be a horrid base. It wouldn't be as moddable as a P150, P180, or, in the spirit of Doom3, Super LANBoy.

Tiberium is not forgotten! I've drawn up a new design for the front and expanded on the paintjob concept. The side panel design is largely unchanged, but I like the whole thing better now. Once I hunt down my scanner (crafty little bastard, that one) I'll see what I can do about getting that drawing up here.
