I've never built a custom before... the only hands on work so far has been swapping the guts from my HP to an antec SLB and a little bit of hands on in my A+ class.

This is my checklist so far... any suggestions would be a lot of help.
(Anything I should add, take away, shop elsewhere etc etc)

and if you need shipping to canada NCIX (http://www.ncix.com/) and canada computers (http://www.canadacomputers.com/) are for teh most part cheaper than tiger.

thats a good hdd i have the Sata version though. speaking of which why are you going with IDE when you have a sata mobo?!

not sure you would need 1000watt for that setup but for $250 you can get a enermax galaxy 850watt (http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=011494&cid=PS.808) which is really good (from reviews i'm heard/read.

since your not concerned with money (going buy that sweet cpu) then i would get better ram as seen here. (http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=011979&cid=RAM.475)

and speaking strictly from my personal preference (i have never water cooled anything or bought anything for water cooling) i would build my own kit rather than buy a premade/setup one. like building your own computer you can choose the best parts.

Wow. 1KW PSU. That's a big electricity bill my friend...but it looks like you'll be having fun with newest games. Great stuff, I agree with them on the Newegg thing. Is the case pre-modded? Or are you going to Mod some stuff as well?

I had a large list of links and now I remember why I had 2 different links for the same hdd :O) I didn't catch that the one I posted was IDE, and THANK YOU! because knowing me, I would have ordered it accidentally.

I've never even seen a water cooled system before so I'd honestly have no idea where to start making my own :o/. Although I'm a modding noobI'd love to get into this hobby... I came across this site accidentally earlier and wow... Thanks a lot for all the help already!

I love Seagate HDD's. I've had WD and I've had Seagate. Through my experiences with those two brands, I would have to say that they are both excellent. I favor Seagate over WD, but only for the name. But I will say that my new 320GB Seagate is smooth as butter and as quiet as a faint whisper. Yep, I had an open case too! I've also experienced the WD passport. It definitely gets my seal of approval for external usb hdd's.

Oh, and as for the 1kw supply...

I originally wanted to order an Alienware and for a couple of the features, it said it was required so I thought that's what I should get :?

asus striker extreme (http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=397&model=1439&modelmenu=1) is better in my head anyway i have no proof though.

The Striker Extreme is a nice board, but a bit pricey. For all the flash and bag, it is worth it though (if that is what you are after). Not sure of the performance marks though...

Most def. use newegg, they're based right in your backyard in California and they do good business.

Yeah when I worked in a PC repair shop, we would order out parts from newegg (I lived in temecula, ca) and we would get our stuff in like 2 days. Newegg rocks! Plus I got a free shirt from there....front says BAM! (Backup Awareness Month)

Some of the negative feedbacks on those boards scare me - mainly because I've never messed with bios besides taking off a floppy drive. :(

if you ever have a question involving those negative comments left on a product, just post the comment and product and we'll rip it to shreds if need be.

A lot of the time its people who just copy what other people are saying, or its people who got a defected one.

Things I'm still deciding on:

ASUS DVD Burner with LightScribe (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135146)
Maybe it's just me... but these are the most confusing things to shop for.
Since this one seems to do it all, would there be a point to have more than one?

Also, I have yet to decide on a convienient and bad ass case. Any suggestions? Thanks again for all the help guys.

In my personal and humble opinion, id have to say go for the abit or striker board.

dont waste your money on the 1kw psu. def get the enermax psu. its your best bet for sure, and they make some of the best psu's out there..

as for your ram.... with a system setup like the one you want, dont get cheap crap ram like that. spend a few extra bucks, and buy some better stuff, like this...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231114
or this....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144030
or this...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145165

as for your physics card, complete and utter waste of money. it will gain you nothing. in fact, there are like next to no games that support it and the ones that do, you can barely tell what it does.

and, why not buy a sound card like this.....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102189

and.. for your dvd burner. You want 2. trust me. you dont think you'll need to, but if you want to copy a dvd straight (*clone*), then you need that second player. the convienence of 2 dvd rw's is beyond explanation. id never build a computer without.

as for the brand, you'd be ok with most out there. plextor is one of the best, but you pay for it too. but.. asus, pioneer, samsung, lite-on... they all have good products. so... then you should look at whether you want a sata dvd burner or not. if you are building from scratch.. def look into sata's. much faster than ide drives. also, they have 20x burners out now, so, gettin a 16x is just buying old skool parts :D

this is my personal suggestion.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106073

oh.. and, do not, under any circumstances, (in my opinion anyway) buy that fatal1ty case. WAAAYYY too much money for only gettin an ugly fatal1ty etched metal rectangle. save yourself a couple hundred bucks, and get a nice antec 900. the new 900's are awesome.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021

oh oh oh.. before i forget. with the money you'll save on the case and psu, buy an extra 250gb seagate sata hd with 16mb cache. run them in raid, and you'll have 250gb of harddrive space that will blow away a raptor, for a fraction of the cost. or you could wait till a 320gb goes on sale, and get it for the price of a 250. the sales happen all the time.
thats just my 2 cents. take it or leave, it up to you.

i personally think lightscribes are stupid. lol. theyre cool, if you want to spend a little more money. but you can definitally live without them.

As for the comments on the DVI ports, just take better care of it better then they did.

i personally like lightscribe. no more stupid "marker-labeled" cd's and dvd's. looks professional.

since when is ocz cheap ram?!?!?

i would go with any of these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147+50001550+1052420643&name=DDR2+1066+(PC2+8500)) for the setup your building. i don't understand why you wouldn't get PC8500+ over PC6400. the last i heard the top brands were OCZ, Mushkin, CORSAIR.

Swiftech make good pumps from what i have read in this forum and the fact that they get used all the time so i would say that cooling is a good system but i don't know for sure.

I didnt mean that its cheaply built. i just mean that you can get so much better stuff, with better timings.

oh yah.. and i must add. gettin ram that has a higher frequency isnt gonna benefit you what most people would make you believe. and what i mean by that is that most people dont see ram timings as important as frequency. but, if you look into it, (and i know ive posted this somewhere else on here before.. that is, proof of what im about to say) you will see that ddr2-800 ram with timings like 3-3-3-8 is actually not much faster for actual performance than ddr400 with timings of 2-2-2-6. in the chart (which i just found back.. so here you go) you can see gaming performance specs, and it goes to show, that dont rely only on frequency.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2741&p=5

also keep in mind this comparison chart is comparing ddr2-800 with awesome timings too. if you were to take some ram with 5-5-5-15 timings like most cheaper ddr2 is, im sure the gap would be nill, and wouldnt be surpised if ddr400 would top it.

BUT>>>> of course, what im saying is not completely true, because in some cases, the frequency is a gain.
