I started having a problem a few months ago with my computer freezing, when the problem started, and not wanting to restart. I would hit the power switch and nothing would happen. Then I would flip the switch and it would power up. Except for one vital thing, the hard drives wouldn't do a damned thing. Or, they would spin up, but no conformation beep. I thought it was my power supply because sometimes I would flip the switch and it would power up for a second and then shut off. So, a few days ago I bought a new 450w and I just got everything hooked up. Same problem. My friend has the same MB as me, but he thought it was his HD. Same problem. I've got a Gigabyte GA-7DXE with an AMD 1.8Ghz CPU (can't remember the exact model). Can anyone help me?

I would say it is a motherboard problem. So you have multiple hard drives both are not responding?

Either both your drives have a problem and they are interfering with the rest of system or the mobo is shot. Start by swapping the HDD out and test and old one with windows. If not then pretty much by your self you have eliminated everything so that just leaves the mobo. Good luck finding one for you current proc. You might have to give ebay a try for a new one.

Neither HDD is responding. My friend has the same problem and just bought a new one and same thing.

I'm just gonna scrap the mobo. Here's what I'm getting in it's place:

MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138245

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819104230

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134040

I know it's not much, but it's what I can afford. I had to get a MOBO with an AGP slot because I can't afford the a new vid card. I guess I'm one of those guys with old technology. I still can't decide what CPU cooler I'm goin' to get. I'm kind of thinking of a mini water cooling system, but I may go with a Mars cooler master. Have any suggestions?

If you got no beep then it is either mobo or RAM. Swap out the RAM you're using and try some different stuff before you buy those parts. Might save you some money if it's just a RAM thing.

Soemtimes receding the ram (taking it out, cleaning, then putting it back in) fixes those problems.

Reseating is maybe what you mean? Not to be nit-picky or anything, but receding is what old people's hair lines do.

But still, that is also good advice. I'd try that too.
